Quinta do Bento Novo is located in the North of Portugal, near the Atlantic Coast. The house has a capacity of 18+ people, with 7 double rooms, several spacious living rooms, a large kitchen that is fully equipped and can easily accommodate 18 people. The centennial house has been recently remodeled, so you will be able to enjoy the beautiful characteristic architecture and also feel the comfort of modern houses (central heating, spacious bedrooms with private bathrooms). You will also enjoy the 40000 square meters of lands and beautiful gardens: you will be amazed by the enormous variety of plants, trees and flowers of the gardens, and take pleasure of the surrounding mountains and the stream that flows at the end of the property. The house is located in the small village of Perre, only 7 km away from Viana do Castelo, one of the most beautiful cities of Portugal, with a lot of history and culture to offer. The high quality Atlantic Beaches are only 8 km away.


The Region: Alto Minho has an enormous array of choices to offer you: amazing beaches, golf, tennis, swimming pools, spas, an extraordinary gastronomy, a very animated ambiance, fishing and hunting, water sports, trekking, historic villages, monuments, gardens, tourist circuits and a very contagious folk culture.

Come to discover the Province of the Minho, land of wine and folklore. And also, of castles, monasteries and churches that speaks of history, of villages full of monuments. Come to find Viana Castelo and the Lima River. Come to live the joy of the colourful popular parties.

The Farm: Originally built in 1892, Bento Novo was recently renovated to more comfortably accommodate our guests, but the beautiful characteristics of its buildings have been preserved. The contrast of schist and granite that can be found throughout the property emphasizes the harmony that exists between what nature has provided and man has embellished.

Bento Novo’s relaxing quiet atmosphere almost makes you forget how close you are to all the action that is happening in the surrounding area. So if you are looking for a relaxing get away or want to come and discover the Alto-Minho region’s rich natural and historical heritage and experience its sea side attractions, we hope you will make us a part of your unforgettable vacation.

Great place to stay

Our group had a wonderful week of sun, relaxation and pottering in this beautiful house and gardens. The real bonus for us was all the fresh fruit picked from the garden every day - oranges, lemons, figs and plums were the most bountiful. The pool was appreciated for cooling down on some of the hottest days and the sound of running water lulled people to sleep as they relaxed after lunch. We enjoyed trips to the local towns, long walks and wild swimming. The host was helpful and easy to contact.

Wonderful stay for a big family group

We were a big family group of 23 persons from 1 to 70 years of age. There were plenty of bathrooms - the grown ups had seperate rooms, and the teenagers shared their rooms but it worked well. It is a very charming house with lots of space especially outside. The garden is quite exceptionel, very extensive, romantic with a mazelike character, fruittrees, football ground and two stonepools, which everybody loved for refreshing or playing. We had all our meals outside under a roof or on the big terrasse in the open. Paolo was very helpful with everything, and we had very good breakfast with freshly pressed orangejuice etc served every day. Dinner was an option too. It is highly recomendable for a big group with a lot of different activities. Of course you have to keep a very vigilant eye on a small child regarding one of the pools that is rather easily accessible.

A fabulous family holiday

We have a large family consisting of married couples and some with children and so we offered it is an open house to arrive and depart when you want over the three weeks that we hired the property in August and it did not disappoint. A 50 minute taxi ride from Porto we spent the first two weeks just using Ubers to get into Viana which is about a 10 minute drive away and the amazing beaches which straddle each side of the town, the final week we did hire a car. The property is immense with beautiful shaded areas to relax and read in and fruit orchards , our Grandsons especially enjoyed picking the oranges and making orange juice , it even has a mini football pitch . The kitchen is really well stocked and we loved cooking most nights and BBQ the amazing range of fresh fish you will find in the local supermarkets. My treat every morning was walking over to the local village which took just over 20 mins and buying the freshest breads and cakes as well as enjoying a fab coffee. The swimming pool was great fun and is not deep so really safe for young children and is fed by a complex of fresh waterpipes and features. Bedrooms are basic as you would expect in a old stone built house but everything was clean and working , I even had my own office to do some work I needed to do. The owner Paulo spoke great English and was really helpful with anything we needed , to sum up we had an amazing family holiday in an undiscovered part of Europe.

PARADISE !!

Paradise !! The luxury manor of Paulo and Ana is indeed a daimond . We have never stayed in such a perfect holiday location . It is beautifully restored in a traditional respectfull way , the gardens are breathtaken , so spacious , varied , like a fairytail with all the fruittrees , vegetables , tropical vegetagion and flowers and the pool from 1905 filled with fresh water from sourches . The house with all the spacious rooms is ideal for a large group or family , there is privacy for everyone ! Everywhere in the manor you feel a warm and intriging family history and tradition . The staff is very friendly , sweet , and professional and they cook delicious portugees meals on request . In vacinity of the house there are many exciting things to do , beautifull beaches , walks and waterfalls , restaurants , ancient city's and villages to discover . The portugees people are very friendly and helpfull indeed. An ideal location to stay with friends or family , from ages 3 till 55 everyone was sooooo happy in this house ! The only hesitation we feel in writing all these things is , that we are afraid of losing this treasure . So please all : enjoy and respect this portugese paradise . Velfungerende ejendom til mange

Vi havde en fin uge. Der er rigtig meget plads på ejendommen, så man kan både være sammen som gruppe og være mere privat. Køkkenet er meget velfungerende til at lave mad i til mange mennesker. 15-20 minutter i bil til stranden, afhængig af trafikken.

Charming house

La Quinta es una maravilla. La casa es preciosa, cuidada al máximo. Estaba muy limpia. Habitaciones y baños amplios. Las salitas de estar , tiene varias, te permiten independencia si necesitas trabajar o un rato de tranquilidad. El jardín es enorme, con una variedad de plantas, flores, y árboles increíble. Es ideal para pasear, jugar al escondite o relajarte en un banco. La "piscina" es un pilón, poco profundo, ideal si vas con niños pequeños y los grandes para nadar un poquito y jugar con los niños. Paulo, el dueño, siempre atento y amable a todo lo que solicitamos. Ha sido un placer y muy fácil tratar con él. Clara, muy amable, simpática y servicial con todo lo requerido. Nosotros éramos una familia de 11 adultos y dos niñas y hemos estado fenomenal. Gracias Paulo por todo!

Lovely retreat in the Minho

This is a lovely home with amazing grounds. We traveled with 6 other couples (and one 12 year old and one 5 month old). The house was perfectly laid out for us and everyone loved exploring the gardens and orchards. We had tomatoes, peppers, greens, citrus fruits, grapes, and more to eat from the property every day. The kitchen was perfect for us to all gather while some cooked and others visited. And the morning light at the front of the house made a wonderful spot for us to have coffee on the stone terrace. The house is very well located for getting to many nearby villages (Barcelos, Viana do Castelo, Ponte de Lima, Porto). We were also able to do a day tour to the Douro Valley and a day trip to Northern Spain). The host, Paulo, and housekeeper, Lourdes, were both lovely and attended to everything we needed. We are very happy we stayed at Quinta Bento Novo.

Nos alojamos un grupo de trece adultos, cinco niños y dos perros...han sido unas vacaciones fantásticas, la casa es increíble, aunque en algunos casos el descanso debido a los colchones ha sido regular, incluso con ese pero, repetiríamos sin duda. The house and gardens are really amazing

The owner is very polite and correct. He fells the house like something more than a property, but something to keep alive for family reasons and you can see this is true because the house is "perfect". They should set down in the homeaway page more photos to show how amazing the house and garden are. I recommend 100% this house. Thanks a lot Paulo

One of the most beautiful places we've stayed.

The website pictures don't do this property justice as you can't see the reality of the magnificent gardens, hear the sound of constantly running water as the troughs and pools get filled up and see the textures of a massive variety of trees and flowers. It has a secret, other wordly quality that's difficult to describe and every age group there loved it. The house is well equipped and the beds comfortable and Paulo did all he could to accommodate our needs. The cleaners were great and also constantly maintaining the grounds. It's in a great location too, very close to a sandy and safe beach on the edge of Viano de Castello and within walking distance of hikes. We would definitely book this place again and were very sad to leave.

Bento Novo 2019

Beautiful property and wonderful gardens, ideal for larger groups who want somewhere off the beaten track. Very few tourists in the area but the local people were friendly. We would certainly consider going back as everyone in the party loved the place.

Grupo grande, donde nos hemos encontrado súper bien. Muy completa y cómoda. Espaciosa con 7 habitaciones, una cocina enorme, varios salones, amplios espacios interiores y exteriores. Beautiful house in amazing gardens

This is the perfect house for a large group as every bedroom has a bathroom and lots of separate seating and sleeping areas so great for several families holidaying together. Large well equipped kitchen and barbecue with wood provided. The spring fed swimming pool is cold but refreshing . There were areas for kids to play football or cricket. Lovely areas to sit out and eat in the evening and Bats and nightjars flying around at night. Well stocked local supermarket. The owner Paulo lives locally and is only a text away to ask about any local advice and sorted any minor problems straight away.

Zwei wunderbare Wochen in Perre

Wer historische Anwesen in traumhafter ländlicher Umgebung mag, ist hier genau richtig. Die Quinta ist großzügig, wir hatten reichlich Platz für 15 Personen (drei Familien), und jedes Zimmer hatte sein eigenes Bad. Der Garten ist riesig und toll angelegt mit vielen interessanten Bäumen. Unsere Kinder freuten sich über den Fußballplatz und den erfrischenden Steintrog, in dem man tatsächlich baden kann. Wir hatten Frühstück gebucht, welches täglich von einer netten Dame vorbereitet wurde, incl. frisch gepresstem Orangensaft. Die Küche war so ausgestattet, dass wir gut für alle kochen konnten. Der Besitzer, Paulo, ist einer der nettesten Gastgeber, die wir jemals erlebt haben. Er ist für alle Fragen und Anregungen offen und auch vor der Reise klappte die Kommunikation wunderbar, danke nochmal für alles! Um an die tollen (relativ leeren!) The 16th-century property had fallen into considerable disrepair since the days the ancient house started needing restoration. We considered selling it, but we couldn't bear to give up a place that was part of our childhood and a family legacy for so long.

Fortunately, there was another option. With “rural tourism” popular in Portugal at the time, we decided to renovate the house and turn it into an inn for our guests. Today, Quinta do Bento Novo, as the historic property is known, has been restored to its former glory. The seven-bedroom inn welcomes guests from all over the world and its elegant, surrounding gardens are the pride of Paulo’s hometown.
