Newly renovated country suburban home less than a mile from Lafayette & Walnut Creek border. Clean, comfortable, new paint, carpets and furnished with casual furnishings. The home is comfortable and the neighborhood is very safe and family friendly. Its a large property that backs up to canal and neighborhood walking trail. We are near park, community pool, shopping, and more. It's a 20 minute walk or 5 min drive to two BART stations with everything you need just a few minutes away. Quick commute to Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco. The nearest beaches are within 35 minute to 50 minute drive. Sierra mountains and Tahoe are reachable in 3.5 hours drive. We just cleared about 8 pine trees so the yard has lots of light. It is more like a private park in the back yard with oak trees, a palm tree and a giant redwood. We regularly see squirrels, falcons, ducks and crows hanging out. The house is away from the street so its very private. Very safe family neighborhood with public pools, trails, wildlife museum and parks within walking distance.

I'm a california native who grew up in this area and have a deep appreciation for the bay area and all it has to offer. If you're visiting from out of town or another country, do not hesitate to ask for guidance about local activities, great day trips, and cultural opportunities in northern california and the san francisco bay area. If I know what you tastes I can suggest things that would be the best fit for you, your family and friends.
Ashley purchased this House in 2015
Why Ashley chose Pleasant Hill
We bought this home because of the land, the house was originally built in the 50's and we have just done alot of upgrades, new carpets, and new sinks, toilets & fixtures in the bathrooms. We spent 3 months clearing the land and transforming the house into what it is today. Currently we have a tiny home at the other end of the property and in the coming years we plan to will build a barn and another full size home to create a family compound. This is a wonderful place that was selected to create our own private paradise and live out our days on the porch with our family and friends. In the meantime we are happy to share it with guests.
What makes this House unique
It's a wonderful peaceful and safe neighborhood. The house is set off the streets with a very private backyard that is over a half acre lot and another tiny home at the other end of the property. It backs up to the canal and walking/biking trail. There are wonderful trails you can take up into the hills, through the neighborhood that go on for miles in each direction as well as a nice park and wildlife museum a few blocks away.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date. You must contact the owner directly to request cancellation.
We stayed in this cute little house and we had a great and relaxing time! There's a trail right next to the house, and it's close to the hills for biking trips. Also, this house is close to grocery stores and not far from the freeway which is very convenient but still very quiet. We loved the location and the house itself. The owner was very kind and always responded our texts when we had questions. Our favorite room? The sunroom!
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. And thank you for taking such good care of the place it was such a pleasure to host you. :)
Really cute house, but with issues
Overall, I really liked this house. It’s in a beautiful neighborhood, on a quiet and safe street. The house inside is spacious for a 2-bedroom home, and a very nice sunroom gives lots of extra living area. My oldest daughter loved the hammock in the sunroom and slept in it every night! The yard is fantastic, it’s huge and offers a fire pit with a lot of bench seating. The kitchen is tiny but efficient, with lots of NorCal charm. The owner has kindly left most necessities in the kitchen.
Now on to the issues. The biggest issue with this house is that an addition was put on the house but electrical system was not upgraded to handle the extra capacity. When we arrived, it was 9 pm after a very long day. The lights did not work in about half of the house and it was extremely hot. I texted the owner and he responded immediately and called me to walk me through flipping the breaker back on in the garage. Once we did that, I turned on lights in each room, so my kids could get in pajamas, etc, and the two wall-unit ACs. At that point, the breaker started tripping every 5-10 minutes. I texted the owner again, but he didn’t respond until the morning. He did offer to have an electrician come out, but since my dad is an electrician, I know that the answer to this issue is a complete rewiring of the house, so I told him don’t worry about it. We worked around it for the rest of the trip by being very careful to not have too many lights on at the same time. Not the end of the world, but to me, you should be able to use the electricity in the home without worrying if it’s too much.
I was worried about the house not having central AC. For the most part, it was OK. The sunroom and master bedroom get nicely cold with the wall units. It does take a VERY long time for the house to cool down, and the house is very hot in the evenings. The second bedroom does not really get cool at all at night, even with fans. Luckily my kids didn’t care, but I would have been miserable in there.
The only TV option provided was a Chromecast. This would have been fine, if it’d worked well. I’m tech savvy, and it was ALWAYS an issue to get the thing connected. Most of the times I tried, we couldn’t get it to work at all. The WiFi is not great. A Roku would be a simple solution to this problem for $30.
The bed in the master is sagging in the middle, and my husband and I kept rolling to the middle. The pillows are very lumpy.
I liked this house a lot, but it needs work to be rented.
Wonderful family holiday in great location
Great property and great location for a family holiday. Lots of room for the 6 of us, very comfortable rooms, a good kitchen for cooking, spacious parking area, and large garden and decking for drinking our Napa wines. Ideal area of Pleasant Hill where there are river paths right behind the garden for our early morning run which cross-cross for miles in many directions. Good grocery stores within 2 mins driving. We took the fast Walnut Creek BART to SF - about 5 mins drive away. Napa only one hour away and a great start for heading west to Yosemite. Best of all. Walnut Creek is WARM after cold days in SF.
Very nice cottage!
This small home was very comfortable. It has lots of room and the mattresses and bedding are great! Kitchen was well stocked and it had a very nice patio in the backyard! Thanks Ashley for everything!
Comfortably cozy cottage.
My family and I truly enjoyed our stay.
+ quiet, pleasant neighborhood, close to supermarkets, shopping, eating, BART. Great location for visiting the Bay Area;
+ the home has a warm, welcoming atmosphere; plenty of space;
+ well equipped with all the necessary (except for a corkscrew...);
+ the hammock in the patio is surely a nice touch!;
+ the backyard is huge and it's great for hanging out and cookouts
- backyard looks a little wild, with overgrown weeds;
- house itself seems a little old and in need of some remodeling (i.e. the windows).
Overall, the pluses outweigh the few minuses and our stay was truly memorable. Recommended :-)
My family and I found this house to be very comfortable, sunny, casual and beautifully located. I live in the area and needed a bigger place to house and entertain family & friends as we gathered together for a week prior to the memorial service of a loved one. This was a perfect spot as it has a welcoming ambiance, quiet, secluded and pretty surroundings.
