Perfect casita in Ajijic
Having just enjoyed a one-month stay at Neat, Suite Petite, it is with the greatest pleasure that we submit this assessment. Our stay could not have been improved.
We were warmly greeted at the door by the resident owner/manager, Mary Bushbaum, and her precious dog, Charlie. We have rented casitas many times where the absentee owner lives miles away and issues are often ignored. With Mary living on site, concerns are dealt with immediately. She is a wealth of knowledge ... local customs, sites, restaurants, and is always ready to help.
Situated in an upscale neighborhood, only 100 yards from the shores of Lake Chapala, and a pretty 15 minute walk to the town center, the location is ideal. Our casita was one in a small complex of four units surrounding a courtyard of avocado and fruit trees, and lush flowering shrubs. To our delight, it is home to an array of brilliantly coloured songbirds who bathe in the fountain and enjoy the occasional avocado for lunch. Birdwatching was a daily joy. Every day or two, Mary would leave a couple of avocados at our door, the fruit from just one of the many trees in the courtyard.
The casita,, although small and ‘cosy’, as Mary described it, is so well-designed that the space did not feel small, but rather is very comfortable. Everything in the casita is of high quality – pots and pans, dishes and cutlery, very comfortable bed with lovely bedding, reclining leather loveseat from which we enjoyed evening hours of great television viewing with extensive Canadian channels and Netflix. Few rare perks in Mexico ... the tapwater is safe to drink because the complex has a waterpurification system. It also has its own septic system, allowing flushing of toilet paper. The kitchen comes well equipped with a blender, microwave, toaster, toaster oven, coffee maker, on and on.There is a ceiling fan in the living room and bedroom, making the Casita very comfortable.
The complex is very safe with high walls and a solid locked front gate so security is not an issue. This casita checks all the boxes ... great location, beautifully appointed and well-equipped, lush courtyard, and best of all, managed by a well-informed, endlessly helpful owner and her trusty buddy, Charlie.
Dereck & Terry.....This review warms my heart. I love that you both enjoyed your stay with Charlie and I this February as we did having you here. I am featuring your review on my VRBO listing as it doesn’t get any better than this. You are welcomed back whenever you can fit in another getaway to Ajijic.
This casita is a perfect little gem of comfort and convenience in a tranquil garden setting.
As first time visitors to Ajijic, my sister and I couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Mary's property exceeded our expectations with her secure, well- appointed, lovely casita with shaded lanai overlooking a garden courtyard- all within easy walking distance to the lake, plaza, shops and restaurants. Mary warmly greeted us on arrival, as she did with all her guests, and never failed to extend her hospitality throughout our stay. She remained a helpful resource and at times went above and beyond to provide information or assistance when needed. She helped us navigate initial visits to the bank and market and gave stellar recommendations for excursions, meals, and various activities. She even helped my sister arrange for horseback riding lessons! In the evenings we enjoyed the cool of her garden and the rooftop overlook with a view of the lake and surrounding mountains. We had an amazing time in Ajijic and I have no doubt it was in part because of our marvelous hostess who made sure we had all we needed to experience the best of this unique town. Ajijic is a vibrant place full of friendly people and I have already arranged a return visit to Mary's casita.
Thank your for your kind words, Shannon. It was the first time I hosted three sisters (only for one night :) You and Kelly were great. I will be happy to have you back with just a week break in between visits. I am looking forward to having you as a neighbor in the near future. Please keep in touch. BYW your kinds words meant a great deal to me.
Oasis in the tranquil village of Ajijic
The caseta was very comfortable and tastefuly decorated. All the amenities were as described and exceeded our expectations. Mary was a gracious host and made our stay a very relaxing experience. I will difininetly stay there again when I return for a stay in Ajijic.
Thank you Wes & Rufina.. It was a pleasure hosing you. I hope you choose Ajijic after your retirement research is finished. It is really a lovely, tranquil and welcoming village. All the best to you and you are welcome back any time.
Comfortable, quiet, relaxing
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Mary’s smallest casita. It was very comfortable for the two of us. The kitchen, though small, was well equipped and Mary even drove us to the grocery store the first day. It is near the Wednesday market, a great place to load up on fresh fruits and vegetables. The wonderful double recliner combined with the sound of the waterfall in the garden was the cause of some great naps and just great relaxation in general. The garden is gorgeous and brought me to tears when we first walked through the gate and caught sight of it. The casita can be quite open to the garden or closed and as private as you wish to make it. Mary’s dog, Charlie, is a sweetie and loved getting belly rubs and chasing a ball. And Mary was so caring, helpful, and encouraging as we were going through the process of finding and buying our new home Ajijic. We left feeling we had found a good friend as well.
Susan & Doug....It was such a pleasure to share your excitement when you found your Lakeside home. Happy to have been a small part of that. Charlie misses you for sure, Susan :) All the best to you as you prepare to make this move.
A litle bit of Heaven
We enjoyed our stay very much. Mary was an exceptional Hostess Gave a tour of Ajijic and Chapala and was kind enough to take us shopping and always checked to see if we needed anything It was a very comfortable Casita Quiet place with short walks to shops and restaurants. One half block to the Lake. Mary's dog Charlie was always there to greet us when e returned from an outing. I would highly recommend this place.
Thank you for taking a moment to write this review. Charlie and I enjoyed your company in Casa de los Suenos. I enjoyed our lunch in San Juan Cosola where we had some real Mexican food. Please come back anytime.
I really enjoyed the casita! It has purified water from the faucets and every amenity you can think of. Mary is a great hostess and goes way out of her way to accommodate you. The furnishings are perfect and the enclosed courtyard gorgeous. Hope to go back again!
Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return soon.
Ajijic has it all: Galleries, restaurants, cafes, lake and mountains. Stroll the treelined cobblestoned streets. Visit the open market on Wednesdays and get a real flavor of Mexico from food to traditional crafts and music. Relax after walking the length of Ajijics malacon (boardwalk) where you will see flocks of pelicans, herons and cranes.
