About Pam Oakes
We are Steve and Pam Oakes from West Chester, Ohio. Steve is a retired police sergeant from our local police department and Pam currently works in sales and buying for Welling & Co. Jewelers. We have been enjoying the lake for close to 40 years and absolutely love every aspect of it. Dale Hollow is our "happy place". Our children have grown up enjoying all of the beauty and nature that the lake and surrounding areas have to offer. We couldn't ask for better family and friends time.
Pam Oakes purchased this Cabin in 2004
Why Pam Oakes chose Pickett County
The property was purchased by Steve's dad and passed down. We have a significant amount of sentimental attachment as well as wonderful memories here. The Bear's Den is one of three rentals available on our Oakes Lane property. There's plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the property with additional friends or family with room for at least 8 more. I'm sure you will agree that the drive down Oak Hill Road and the Oakes Lane property has a peaceful feel. It's absolutely beautiful! We hope your family enjoys it as much as ours has.
What makes this Cabin unique
The location is great! Directly between and only a 4 mile/10 minute drive to either Star Point Resort or Eagle Cove Marina. Enjoy quite lake view walks, hikes to the lake, or relaxing on the covered front porch or covered rear deck. One of three rentals available on our Oakes Lane property.

Everything we expected and more
My son and I spent 3 days fishing and exploring and this was a great place to stay.
Very clean, cozy, and close to the lake
Before this trip even began the property owner was very helpful and informative. Also was very quick with a response. The cabin itself was as advertised. It was very clean and comfortable. Can't wait to come back down.
AWESOME location, very clean, it had everything we needed. We will be going back and staying there.
We were located right in the middle of the beautiful mountains. Close enough to get to the lake in just a few minutes. So quiet and serene. Cabin was very clean and the right amount of space we needed.
Thank you Darlene! We appreciate you choosing to stay with us and live hearing that you enjoyed yourselves. That helps us to know were doing something right to make sure our guests are satisfied. We would love to have you back anytime! Kindly,
Pam and Steve

A Peaceful Retreat From Chaos
Pam was an absolute saint! We call her our angel! We were evacuating from Hurricane Irma and were desperate. She came to our call. We arrived at a very clean and very welcoming cabin that actually allowed for our family to become "at home" enough to enjoy movies on the laptop while the weather channel was muted above us on TV. This cabin, though we did not get to vacation here, was an awesome retreat! The back porch is an amazing place to escape, with the amazing wooded view, and the cabin itself makes you feel like you have no worries in the world. We look forward to coming back to vacation, and she will be our first choice! We would live to explore the area a but more and just relax in the comfort of a clean mountain cabin! Thank you, Pam, for helping us in our time of need! We cannot begin to explain the kindness we have been shown or express our gratitude!
Wow! Thank you! We were happy to help during such a stressful, worrisome time for you. You were honest and heartfelt. We appreciate that and would love to have you back any time :). Kindly, Pam and Steve
Quaint comfortable cabin!
This little cabin is perfect. Pam is as friendly and helpful as can be. The cabin is just right for a couple. Cute decorations, well maintained. The back deck is woodsy and comfortable. Perfect for morning coffee or an evening relaxing. Cabin is a wonderful location near marinas and not to far from town.
Star Point Marina is close by and a wonderful staff to help you out with boat rental or whatever you need. Loved talking with the ship master about the area and learning more to help make our decision towards retirement.
Loved some of the local restaurants (Farmer market, Pier 42, River Edge grill) and nearby towns for antiquing and even caught a great festival in Cookeville.
We will be back soon and the Bear's Den will again be a perfect spot to stay.
Oak Hill Road is a beautiful, scenic and peaceful street with lake views. Walk to the dead end and take a hike down to the lake. Star Point Resort and Eagle Cove Marina are within a 4 mile/10 minute drive of the cabin. Both resorts have ramps available for boat launching and boats or jet skis are available to rent. Sunset Marina is approximately a 15 minute drive. On the way in, Cordell Hull Road, you will pass the Cordell Hull birthplace museum on your right and Bunkham Cave on your left. The cave is a beautiful, wooded approximately 1-1/2 mile hike back. Definitely worth the trip. The nearest grocery is the B & K BiRite on 111. There are also several restaurants right in Byrdstown. Our favorites are the River Grill and the Country Kitchen. Believe it or not, the Shell actually has a great breakfast and pizza. If you like antiques, take a 30 minute drive to Livingston and go through some of the shops. The J & B Stuff store on 111 also has a few antiques as well as a good selection of novelty gifts.
