About the property

The Quietest and most remote Mountain Top Retreat in the Elk State Forest

If you're looking for a first class lodge in an unbeatable location, you've come to the right place. Newly constructed in 2016, our Lodge is located in the heart of the Pennsylvania Elk range. Save your spot now… If the dates you desire are not available, be sure to check out our new lodge which will be available on Sept 1, 2017 and accepting reservations now. It can be found at

This is what a mountain retreat is all about. Quiet and remote yet all the comforts of home… and then some. This lodge has something for everyone. Whatever your reason for vacationing in the mountains, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve tried to think of everything you’ll need to ensure a first class stay. We’ve paid special attention to every detail inside even though we know once you walk through the sliding glass doors and on to the deck you’ll probably spend a good bit of your time outside.

We hope you agree, the most enticing feature of this property is its location. No need to worry about bothering the neighbors, or even seeing them. You’ll be situated right in the middle of 6 wooded acres and the entire property borders the state forest. Perfect whether you’re a hunter, fisherman, wildlife enthusiast or just someone looking for peace and quiet. If you've come to see the Elk, you likely won't have to go far. They visit the property on a regular basis. If a trip to the Elk Viewing area is on your agenda, it's just a short drive away.

Of course in this day and age we know that certain things are necessary to ensure an enjoyable stay so we come equipped with satellite TV, WiFi Internet access and a cell phone booster system so you can stay in touch with friends and family.

Winter in the mountains can be beautiful and challenging at the same time. A four wheel drive vehicle is generally required especially in January and February. Our lodge is situated on a state forest road with no winter maintenance. The township road which ends at the corner of our property is maintained through the winter but tire chains are recommended if not required at times. Conditions can change quickly so be prepared if you wish to book a stay during January or February.

Scroll down to see everything we have to offer. We are looking forward to having you.

About Seth Conner and Kevin Frantz

Kevin Frantz and Seth Conner, owners, have been enjoying this region of PA since childhood. Both avid outdoorsmen, this area has fit our lifestyle for over 40 years and we are excited to provide this vacation spot so that others can experience the beauty of the PA Wilds.

Seth Conner and Kevin Frantz purchased this chateau / country house in 2015

Why Seth Conner and Kevin Frantz chose Pennsylvania

We purchased this property and built this home mainly due to its perfect location in the heart of the Pennsylvania Elk Range. Just minutes from Benezette, guests can take a short drive to the Winslow Hill Elk viewing center or even closer, the Hicks run viewing area. Speaking of Hicks Run, 1 mile from the home is some of the greatest trout fishing water in the region.

If elk viewing is your reason for visiting, you may not even have to leave the side deck. Elk frequently roam right through the yard.

Located on top of the mountain, privacy, peace and quiet are the best features of this location. There isn't another camp in sight.

Comfortable, secluded and well equipped.

  • 5 of 5

This property is comfortable, secluded and very well equipped. We visited Benezette to experience the Pennsylvania elk herd with our 4 year old grandson. We wanted a place that was clean, safe and private so as not to disturb or be disturbed. This property fit the bill. The lodge is very comfortable and the setting is perfect. I wish it were mine. We saw elk, deer and turkey as well as evidence of bear activity. One piece of advice, do not trust the GPS when trying to locate it. We hope to return next year.

Beautiful and Peaceful!!!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our weekend getaway at Barr None. The home is beautiful and cozy! It is located in a peaceful setting! The kitchen had everything that we needed for cooking meals. We enjoyed playing pool and darts in the game room! We saw several deer in the yard and elk and turkey nearby. The ONLY thing that isn't perfect about this home is the water which has an odor.

I would rate this 4 and 1/2 star!

We stopped at several little stores in the area and also went to the Sky Walk, The Zippo Museum and Grices.

It was a fantastic weekend!!!

Secluded, picturesque, home away from, tons of wildlife.

  • 5 of 5

We loved it from start to finish! Barr None Lodge is stunning inside and out! Plenty of room for our badminton and baseball equipment in the yard, and the pool table was a hit with our son. Our evening campfires were perfect!

Fully equipped kitchen, comfy furniture and plenty of space to spread out.

We are located in the heart of the elk range with several viewing areas close by. Hicks Run viewing area is a 5 minute drive and the Winslow Hill loop is just down the road from there. If you're looking for elk, you shouldn't have any trouble finding them.
