About the property

The Quietest and most remote Mountain Top Retreat in the Elk State Forest

If you're looking for a first class lodge in an unbeatable location, you've come to the right place. Newly constructed in 2016, our Lodge is located in the heart of the Pennsylvania Elk range. Save your spot now… If the dates you desire are not available, be sure to check out our new lodge which will be available on Sept 1, 2017 and accepting reservations now. It can be found at http://www.vrbo.com/1137976

This is what a mountain retreat is all about. Quiet and remote yet all the comforts of home… and then some. This lodge has something for everyone. Whatever your reason for vacationing in the mountains, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve tried to think of everything you’ll need to ensure a first class stay. We’ve paid special attention to every detail inside even though we know once you walk through the sliding glass doors and on to the deck you’ll probably spend a good bit of your time outside.

We hope you agree, the most enticing feature of this property is its location. No need to worry about bothering the neighbors, or even seeing them. You’ll be situated right in the middle of 6 wooded acres and the entire property borders the state forest. Perfect whether you’re a hunter, fisherman, wildlife enthusiast or just someone looking for peace and quiet. If you've come to see the Elk, you likely won't have to go far. They visit the property on a regular basis. If a trip to the Elk Viewing area is on your agenda, it's just a short drive away.

Of course in this day and age we know that certain things are necessary to ensure an enjoyable stay so we come equipped with satellite TV, WiFi Internet access and a cell phone booster system so you can stay in touch with friends and family.

Winter in the mountains can be beautiful and challenging at the same time. A four wheel drive vehicle is generally required especially in January and February. Our lodge is situated on a state forest road with no winter maintenance. The township road which ends at the corner of our property is maintained through the winter but tire chains are recommended if not required at times. Conditions can change quickly so be prepared if you wish to book a stay during January or February.

Scroll down to see everything we have to offer. We are looking forward to having you.

About Seth Conner and Kevin Frantz

Kevin Frantz and Seth Conner, owners, have been enjoying this region of PA since childhood. Both avid outdoorsmen, this area has fit our lifestyle for over 40 years and we are excited to provide this vacation spot so that others can experience the beauty of the PA Wilds.

Seth Conner and Kevin Frantz purchased this chateau / country house in 2015

Why Seth Conner and Kevin Frantz chose Driftwood

We purchased this property and built this home mainly due to its perfect location in the heart of the Pennsylvania Elk Range. Just minutes from Benezette, guests can take a short drive to the Winslow Hill Elk viewing center or even closer, the Hicks run viewing area. Speaking of Hicks Run, 1 mile from the home is some of the greatest trout fishing water in the region.

If elk viewing is your reason for visiting, you may not even have to leave the side deck. Elk frequently roam right through the yard.

Located on top of the mountain, privacy, peace and quiet are the best features of this location. There isn't another camp in sight.

Beautiful secluded lodge!

  • 5 of 5

The lodge was beautiful and very clean, quiet remote location. Everything we needed for a perfect weekend get away! The owners of this lodge have thought of everything - there is a beautiful fire pit with wood for purchase, small amount of condiments and spices stocked in the kitchen to cover anything you may have forgotten! Beautiful game room (which we didn’t even use because the weather was so beautiful we spent all of our time outdoors!) It is about 10 minutes from Benezette where we were able to see a LOT of elk! We did not see any elk from the cabin but we were able to hear them from the back porch! One thing I will mention is the road in and out of the lodge is a dirt road for several miles - we drove a minivan so all 6 of us could ride together - we will drive the truck next time as there were portions of the road that we did not have enough ground clearance. We will be renting this lodge again! Very pleased with our stay!

Great family memories

  • 5 of 5

Had everything we needed for a great end of summer getaway! Google maps is a bit off, but eventually found the cabin, no cell service until the cabin’s WiFi, so make sure to print or screen shot directions prior to trip. Saw so many elk and animals our weather was perfect and star show at night was amazing! Thank you for sharing this property so others may enjoy a peace of God’s country!

Clean, comfortable, well built

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful cabin. It is extremely clean, the beds and furniture were super comfortable, and we had a great time catching up over the weekend. We forgot a few small items, but realized everything we forgot was already there. Cooked steaks on the grill and enjoyed them on the picnic table!

Beautiful lodge and well stocked with anything you would need

  • 5 of 5

We started our visit at the lodge back in January, however with unseasonable warm weather and ice jams followed by 8" of snow the power went off so with no heat or water we decided to pack up and head for home. We knew that we wanted to come back so we could enjoy what the lodge and area has to offer. We arrived Thursday night after stopping at the Benezette hotel for dinner. By the time we arrived at the lodge we had seen four whitetail deer, 3 cows with calves plus one other cow, 4 bulls that were still in velvet, a turkey and a bear. We spent most of the time outside on the porch just enjoying the sounds of the woods. On Sunday we went to Clearfield to Denny's Beer Barrel Pub for my birthday dinner and when we got back to the lodge we pulled into the driveway to find a 7x7 bull standing in the yard, with that said my birthday wish came true. On our last morning we woke to 2 doe's and a fawn standing in the yard. Thank you Seth and Kevin for a wonderful place to stay!

very clean and roomy place for us, 5 adults and one toddler.

  • 5 of 5

We were pleased with the amount of room in the place. The covered deck was really nice, we used it for eating several meals there. The design and walkway to the firepit worked well. The location is fairly private but there is an occasional car passing by. On Saturday there were people working at nearby camps which was a little noisy-mowers and chain saws. The air conditioner upstairs worked well for cooling off that area. The bed in the upstairs was not made on our arrival. Would recommend adding some additional silverware. We would consider coming back in the future. Thank you.

We are located in the heart of the elk range with several viewing areas close by. Hicks Run viewing area is a 5 minute drive and the Winslow Hill loop is just down the road from there. If you're looking for elk, you shouldn't have any trouble finding them.
