My wife and I spent our fondest memories as children at our families' cottages. So we built our cabin to reflect what we have always loved "The Great Outdoors" We are both orginally from Canada but have since built ours lives in both USA and Canada.

Tim Hockaday & Melanie Wright-Hockaday purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Tim Hockaday & Melanie Wright-Hockaday chose Republic Township

We picked this property because of it's over whelming beauty. It is set on a private road, therefore it allows us the privacy we want when we wish. It is on Michigan's Upper Peninsula's largest inland lake so we can enjoy all the amenties this lake has to offer. It also lets us enjoy the winter sports we love so much right out our front door.

What makes this cabin unique

We built this home very customed to the lifestyles we enjoy so much. Every square inch of our home was designed with bringing the indoors and outdoors together.

Beautiful Cabin, Tucked Way Back in the Woods, Right on the Lake

  • 4 of 5

This cabin has everything you need, no reason to leave! Bring your own food to make your meals in the kitchen - open space concept to entertain with the living area as well.

Two bedrooms with queen beds - great for a couples getaway. The listing says sleeps 8, however that is with two in each bed, and then two on each pull-out sleeper sofas (not too comfy). The owners do have an air mattress there, but I would suggest bringing another, especially if it's a group of friends and not couples. The hot tub/pool/sauna area is awesome, as well as the large showers too! The washer/dryer was nice to have so we could wash towels over the weekend. All the appliances are top notch.

We rented this place for our snowmobiling trip, there was easy access to the trail if you ride the lake across - we would not recommend riding the road to the trail as you would be on the road for quite awhile. We also had two large, enclosed trailers and the space was pretty tight. The turn around driveway is great for cars/smaller trucks, but not ideal for trailers.

This cabin is definitely a great destination for a couples retreat and/or smaller family get-together. We wouldn't recommend for a larger group (more than 6) as the sleeping options are limited - would be awesome if there was just one more room that had two bunk beds in it. Overall, this is a truly beautiful place, the custom woodwork is amazing. We were able to relax in the hot tub and pool after riding the trails all day. This place would be amazing in the summertime too - right on the water, be very easy to put kayaks in and to take advantage of the fire pit overlooking the lake. The owners were great at communicating with us prior to our trip as well.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came up here for our honeymoon and to put some miles on our snowmobiles. We were instantly in awe of the cabin as soon as we saw it from the driveway. The amazement continued as we entered the house and walked through it! The pictures they have posted do not do this place justice! We had a few questions about the place once we got here and both Tim and Melanie were so accommodating and friendly! It truly was the best place we’ve ever stayed and are already planning when we can come back!! HIGHLY recommend staying here!

Magical getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Our family has just returned from 3 nights at Wolf Lake Lodge to celebrate the new year. Our first impression was that photos don't do this place justice. Everything says quality. It's grand and cozy at the same time.

Our favorite amenity was most definitely the pool room. The lap pool was something we all enjoyed, especially our 3 year old grandson. The adjacent hot tub made going back and forth easy, with the sauna right there as well.

We found it provided everything we needed to prepare meals. Beautiful kitchen, amazing views no matter which room you're in. Large showers with a handheld wand and a rain shower head as well. The latest in gadgets, we found the motion activated super-low green glow light most helpful when getting up in the night.

It sleeps four comfortably. There are two pull out sofas that are for those who drew the short straw - so you could sleep 8. (We found an air mattress in the closet which may have been more comfortable). Probably our only complaint.

This place is really beyond what we thought we were renting. You will not be sorry.

Excellent communication from the owners, very helpful indeed. We will definitely be using this property again.

A beautiful log home set in the middle of a forest. My family and I had the best time at Wolf Lake Lodge. The home offers you countless memories, from our children swimmimg in the pool to the parents relaxing in the hot tub. The kitchen had everything you needed to make meals for your family. Every room offered you amazing veiws. We had a lot of fun jet skiing on the lake. Tim and Melanie answered any questions we had promptly. Thank you so much!!! We will be back and would recommend this place to anyone.

The Relaxation You've Been Looking For

  • 5 of 5

The beginning of every great adventure to the U.P. should start out the same way:

"Are we going the right way?"

You're on a narrow, one-lane dirt road surrounded by a particularly thick canopy. Somewhere off to the right of you is the sprawling Lake Michigamme, pock-marked by tiny islands begging to be explored. And with the windows down - December or July, doesn't matter - you fill your lungs with that clean 'up north' air and realize, hell, it doesn't matter if we're going the right way, I'm here and I'm already relaxed.

And at the moment you resign yourself to that feeling, that's right around the time you see the cedar chest at the top of the driveway your hosts mentioned and you realize you're there.

Pictures don't do Wolf Lake Lodge justice. It's twice as big as you think. This is undoubtedly what Jay Gatsby's little getaway would look like if he had any penchant for the Northwoods. It's awe-inspiring. You'll smile so hard, you'll start laughing. "This?! THIS IS THE PLACE WE RENTED?!"

The lockbox is by the pool. To get to it, you'll have to walk around the expansive and beautifully appointed back patio. You'll still be smiling, possibly even laughing, this can't be real. I suspect it is by design that Tim and Melanie have placed the lock box here, it's as if they want you to enter through the pool, after all why should the awe stop outside?

You walk through the doors and by now your face is hurting from how much you're smiling! MY GOD! It's beautiful! There's a pool! And a spa! AND A TIKI BAR! Frankly it's cruel! Now you have to decide! Do I spend my time outside? Around the enormous firepit needlessly stacked with more wood than you could burn in a lifetime, listening to the lake and the wind in the trees? Or do I just live out the time going from pool to spa to sauna and back again?! Decisions decisions!

Through the pool doors is the living room and kitchen. There's a tv. Do the right thing: leave it off the whole weekend. There's nothing on that compares to your surroundings in rain or shine. The kitchen includes everything you need to cook either the most simple or most elaborate meal. The bedrooms are quaint, cozy and as I understand it quite comfortable (I opted to pitch a tent outside and spend my week sleeping under the stars)...

By now you've been on the property for at least a half hour and whatever baggage you brought in the form of worry or stress is gone. Left at the top of the driveway by the garbage – where it belongs
