About Tim Hockaday & Melanie Wright-Hockaday
My wife and I spent our fondest memories as children at our families' cottages. So we built our cabin to reflect what we have always loved "The Great Outdoors" We are both orginally from Canada but have since built ours lives in both USA and Canada.
Tim Hockaday & Melanie Wright-Hockaday purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Tim Hockaday & Melanie Wright-Hockaday chose Republic Township
We picked this property because of it's over whelming beauty. It is set on a private road, therefore it allows us the privacy we want when we wish. It is on Michigan's Upper Peninsula's largest inland lake so we can enjoy all the amenties this lake has to offer. It also lets us enjoy the winter sports we love so much right out our front door.
What makes this Cabin unique
We built this home very customed to the lifestyles we enjoy so much. Every square inch of our home was designed with bringing the indoors and outdoors together.

This property was amazing! The home is beautifully done with incredible details in the design. You could tell the owners take great pride in the cabin they have built. The home was very clean. My husband and I enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The kitchen was fully equipped for making dinner. The home overlooks the lake and every morning you could sit on the upstairs balcony and watch the deer come in to feed. The owners Tim and Melanie are awesome to work with and answered all our questions promptly, thank you so much for sharing your lovely cabin with us
This is a wonderful place to stay. Very clean. Remote, peaceful and quiet. Wonderful design. Wish the beds were king size. Love the inside hot tub and pool options. I would say it is luxury for sure. Big porch. Fire pit is on the edge of a slight drop off so can only do half circle around but very nice pit. Dock was wonderful. Only issue we see with this property is it does not have AC. We forgot and it was very warm this September so wouldn't stay in hot weather. Also this property is very remote. It is a five+ mile drive off the main road and takes an additional fifteen minutes to get to down one lane roads so something to consider. If you are looking for place to plant yourself in comfort, this is it. I bet it is breathtaking in the winter! We were in between seasons so didn't take advantage of the lake. Overall property is wonderful.
Thank you so much Jamie for your review of Wolf Lake Lodge. Tim and I would like to thank you for your feedback about the AC unit. When Tim and I first built the cabin the climate did not warrant AC. As time has past and due to climate change in the UP our summers are getting a lot warmer. As a result of this Tim and I have purchased a Central Air unit and it will be up and running for the 2019 summer. Thank you again for all your feedback on our property. Wishing you all the best, Tim and Melanie Hockaday
2490 characters isn't enough room to tell the story
The property is beautiful and located in a secluded, wooded area.
Upon departure, we cleaned the property inside & out, leaving it nearly as clean as we found it. We spoke pleasantly w/the owners the day we left.
The next day, she sent a text as follows ($ amounts deleted per VRBO rules):
It has come to out attention that there is some damage done at Wolf Lake Lodge. The hot tub is now being drained, cleaned and refilled due to unknown tissues etc floating in it. Our pumps are clogged and filter is ruined. When you spoke to my husband yesterday about the light in the shower, you should have let us know then about the hot tub. Also I bought brand new pillows for the home and one is now missing along with the brand new pillowcase. Not sure how the light broke in the shower considering you need to pinch the hooks that are inside the shower to even remove the light. My husband and I used the shower before you came and nothing was wrong with it. I have taken the upper hand and have sent all videos of your stay to my insurance company, Vrbo and our attorneys along with pictures of the damaged products. I have also sent them your signed Welcome Package and waivers. Everything in our home is accounted for each and every time. You are losing our deposit. Consider yourself lucky because the damage exceeds this amount. If you wish to write us a bad review on Vrbo, please reconsider because that would be unfair, but just know it will be rebuked and not in your favour. Tim and I pride ourselves in excellence and work very hard to provide the best experience possible for all our guests.
I replied that any damage was unintentional & apologized. I requested a list of costs, as a pillow (that we did not take) isn't much. The filter cost $40 per the place where the hot tub was purchased (info listed in paperwork from owners). They refuse to provide a list of charges but I did receive another bizarre text. The text read as follows ("personal information" deleted per VRBO rules)
Now that things have settled between us and VRBO and you. I wanted you to look closely at this picture of our pool room. See what is in the middle? The biggest cross ever. Tim and I had our pool room made in the name of our Father, Jesus Christ. If you actually look around our home He was everywhere. The cross above the pool room door. The cross above the kitchen window? The lesson I want you to learn from this, is that good will always win over evil. It’s never to late to change your wa
Thank you Heather for your review. It is true that Tim and I answer to God first and foremost. Tim and I provided you and your group with a payment plan that offered you a chance to experience our home and allow you to make a beautiful memory to last you a lifetime. Upon your leaving you did give a call Tim explaining that you had broken the light in the shower. What you had forgotten to mention was the damage that had been done to our indoor pool and hot tub. It took several man hours to clean away all the floating debris that was clogging our filter system so it was ready for our next upcoming guests. Most people would admit to the damage instead of blaming our bonded and insuranced house cleaner. Therefore we had to remove your damage deposit because of this reason. When you break the contract and damage a property that is what happens. This also included cleaning up all the cigarette butts that were surrounding our property so it did not look disgusting for our next guests. No one wants to see that when they come to any home. In the contract because it is a log cabin, you can only smoke by the fire pit not in other areas, so that a fire will not erupt in the surrounding areas. ( there was a high fire danger at the time of your stay) We contacted you in regards to this and asked you to refrain from this but you did not. I could go on about several areas of the contact that you broke and maybe this will assist other owners in regards to you renting from them so they will not go through what you put Tim and I through. It did cost us a lot of money to repair the damage that you and your guests did. Tim and I will always assist our guests in every way we can and will answer any and all questions you may have immediately so your stay is incredible as you can see from our other reviews. Tim and I are very proud of our cabin and want all our guests to love it as much as we do but when it comes to leaving our home full of damage the right thing to do is stand up and be accountable for your actions. You chose not to, so this clearly explains your two star review which is personal instead of professional.
The Greastest Experience Ever
First and for most pictures do not do this place justice. It is a beautiful logged cabin with everything you could possibly imagine to have the most relaxing vacation. The pool and hot tub were a fantastic item for the end of a long day. The owners, Tim and Melanie were the most attentive owners that my party have ever dealt with. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin with us.
This home was clean and very secure.
Excellent secluded cabin!
Cabin is literally at the end of a one lane road. Directions provided were spot on and no issues finding it. The Cabin construction is top notch and basically everything you would need is there. It was relaxing and peaceful whether being on the porch or on the new dock. The lake frontage is in a bay and you see no other properties from the shore. You only see the neighbors dock when standing on the end of the new dock which was just installed. The owners were very helpful and quick to respond. You can tell they take great pride in their home (as they should) and want others to enjoy it as much as possible. Truly a relaxing and enjoyable experience!
