These two very comfortable semi-detached holiday cottages (26817 and 26818) occupy a stunning elevated position on a mixed working farm on the headland just outside the beautiful village of Pennan. Both properties boast fantastic sea views; Mill Shore Cottage has a cosy living room which features windows on two sides allowing uninterrupted viewing of Mill Shore below – a secluded shingle beach with sandy shallows beyond, offering a unique perspective on the abundant marine life – seals can be spotted easily in the bay, whilst further out whales and dolphins are often sighted. Pennan Lodge again has marvellous views of Pennan itself and the bay beyond. In addition to the amazing marine life, just round the corner and visible from the cottages is Troup Head, a renowned nature reserve featuring the only UK mainland colony of gannets. Next door is Cullykhan Beach, another secluded cove reached by a steep walk down to the shore. Pennan is renowned for its famous phone box as featured in the film ’Local Hero’ but it is a lovely village in its own right, typical of those strung out along this rugged coastline, including Crovie and Gardenstown, reached by steep winding roads to the bottom of the cliffs from which they cling. This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty providing wonderful areas for walking. Shop and restaurant 4 miles, pub ¼ mile.

Mill Shore Cottage ticked every box for us. Clean and Warm. Easy check in. Sitting above the beautiful Pennan Harbour it was perfect. Scones at the “Coastal Cuppie” we’re simply the best we have ever tasted. It’s somewhere we would love to return to.

An excellent cottage for comfort and location.
An excellent cottage for comfort and location. It had a wonderful aspect to see the Northern Lights which I was fortunate to see every night . No need to go outside just look out the lounge window. Plenty of things to see and do here ranging from the Speyside whiskey town Dufftown to the Peterhead Prison. Old fishing harbours that I found stunning . Pennan is good but Crovie was incredible . Portsoy famous film location including Peaky BlindersFor me it was well worth the long drive.

We booked for a week, but extended our stay by a five days as the cottage was comfortable and local scenery was great. There is a garden and outside clothes drying facilities. Didn't use the tumble dryer. Lovely views all around.
The cottage was warm and comfortable. It is more suitable for a party of 2 or a family of 2 adults and 2 children. It suited our purposes as a couple.
There is a modern bathroom and a good cooker, fridge freezer and washing machine.
Covid guidelines are being followed and we understand that high touch items have been removed, but items such as a few J-Cloths, bleach and more than one toilet roll would have been appreciated. The property is run as a business and there was no contact with the owner, except an initial phone call to arrange entry. That said, we did extend our stay and we would return.

Lovely cottage in a super location. Not too many tourist attractions in local area but ideal if you want a quiet break, and excellent for social distancing. Looks down on lovely beach which is a few minutes walk away. Fantastic peaceful views.

First trip away after lockdown - just what we needed.
You can buy ice cream/tea/coffee at the bottom of the hill, but otherwise no local amenities - but we weren't expecting any.

Mill shore cottage is a very clean, warm, inviting, well equipped cottage.
Mill shore cottage is a very clean, warm, inviting, well equipped cottage. The hosts are very attentive. Would not hesitate to stay again. The local area has lots of quaint fishing villages to explore. The beach below the cottage is a delight, one morning saw a seal basking on the sand. The perfect place to chill and relax. Enjoyed a lovely anniversary week.

An excellent property with a stunning view of the sea.
An excellent property with a stunning view of the sea. Very comfortable. The only very minor snag was that the shower lacked a bit of power. The central heating was very effective and easily controllable. Pennan itself is a bit quiet with only the pub/restaurant - which is very good but only open from 5pm Wed to Sun. The walk up the hill to the cottage nearly killed us so take the car!
