It is in an area of great natural beauty, lying between the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, the Argyll Forest Park, and the spectacular seascapes of the west coast of Argyll, yet is very accessible (approximately a 90-minute drive from Glasgow) and makes a perfect base for touring and walking.
Strachur village itself is well provided with amenities and has an excellent hotel which welcomes non residents for drinks and meals. The village also has a well-stocked general store with attached post office and tea room which serves informal meals, coffee and cake during the day. There is a filling station with shop which sells everything from food to logs for the fire. Both are within walking distance of the cottage.
There is a slipway close to the cottage where a small boat or kayak can be launched into Loch Fyne’s scenic waters in good weather and there are also also tennis courts in the village. A bit further afield there are interesting and historic towns and villages. Inveraray is the closest town. Oban, known as the ’Gateway to the Isles’, with its colourful harbour, and the dramatic mountains of Glencoe, near Fort William are scenic day excursions. In a different direction, the Kyles of Bute are nearby and in yet another direction, you pass through the mountainous scenery of the National Park to Loch Lomond with its cruise boats. Wildlife is abundant, there are some glorious gardens to visit and there are plenty of outdoor pursuits including walking and cycling.
The name of the area around Strachur is Cowal Peninsula, often called, ‘Argyll’s Secret Coast’. It is surrounded by the beautiful coastal scenery of Loch Fyne, the Kyles of Bute and the Clyde Estuary. There is a short ferry crossing from Colintraive to the Island of Bute, with its sandy beaches, historic Rothesay Castle, and the spectacular Mount Stuart House.
Away from the coast there are waterfalls, historic castles and the famous Benmore Gardens as well as many interesting and scenic walks and bike trails. Cowal also has a good selection of restaurants serving everything from an informal lunch to an exceptional dinner.
Internally the cottage has comfortable beds for a good night’s sleep and it has a well equipped kitchen with a separate dining area. A wood burner and upgraded settees in the lounge provide a cosy and relaxing retreat when you come back after a day of exploring the many scenic attractions in the area. Shop/bistro ¼ mile, hotel pub½ mile.

Very lovely place with a* private* beach. Recommended for Family of 4. You can go and visit a lot of places around. We love a view from a leaving room and bedroom. You can see seals as well if you are lucky.
Tigh-an-Uillt was just perfect. Situated well for trips to Dunoon, Inveraray, Tighnabruaich, Portavadie, Oban. The outlook in Strachur overlooking Loch Fyne was stunning. The house had everything we needed and was very peaceful. It is quite a walk to the local - Creggans Inn and is along a busy road so local amenities rated lower but this was no problem to us as we took the car and we’re happy to sit at night and gaze at the amazing views. Showers were low pressure but you got used to this as all else was fantastic.

Spent a lovely week here and thoroughly enjoyed watching the ever changing Loch Fyne. We came to relax and that is exactly what we did. Views from lounge and front bedroom windows were wonderful.
The cottage is very well equipped and was very clean and had been well prepared in light of current Covid advice.
All in all an excellent stay.

Enjoyed a lovely week at Tigh An Uillt.
Enjoyed a lovely week at Tigh An Uillt. Plenty of information provided in advance of the holiday regarding travel directions, shopping etc. and the owners were quick to answer queries both in advance and during the holiday. The cottage is perfectly situated on the banks of Loch Fyne with superb views from the lounge and master bedroom. We were impressed with the measures taken to protect visitors and housekeeping staff during the pandemic and were provided with antibacterial sprays, hand gel etc. We were required to take our own towels which meant wedging them into the already full car but we felt this was a sensible precaution. The cottage is very well equipped which meant cooking was not the challenge it can sometimes be in holiday rental properties. Strachur is a small village with one general store/post office which also doubles for a cafe. The Creggan Inn is a 1 mile walk from the cottage. Inveraray where there are more cafes etc and a reasonable sized Co-op is a 25 minute drive around the head of the loch. Overall the perfect place to de stress.

Excellent cottage, amazing views.
Can't fault the cottage.
Just felt local amenities weren't gòod, post office was very limited, had to shop on days out, local pub has good reviews but we felt overpriced and quality was poor.
Lots of amazing places to visit.

Cottage was great with amazing view. Comfortable beds. Only problems were the steepness of the drive and reversing out into very fast moving traffic.

Stunning views from the cottage.
Stunning views from the cottage. Very clean, well equipped and modern. Cottage information states there are 4 steps to the door, we found that the steep drive would also have been difficult for anyone with mobility problems.

Stunning cottage in a stunning location.
Stunning cottage in a stunning location. Tigh An Uillt is very well equipped, everything has been thought of to make guests welcome and comfortable during their stay.
Ideal spot to venture further afield or just to stay and enjoy the fabulous views. The picture windows in the lounge or front bedroom overlook Loch Fyne and beyond.
Watch out for the variety of birds on the bird feeders and other wildlife in the garden to the rear of the cottage. We spotted Hedgehog(s) and a fox as well as a little mouse.
Our second stay here in 9 months, doubt very much if it will be our last.
Tip: We drove to Fort William to ride the popular Jacobite steam train (of Harry Potter fame) to Mallaig - recommend booking well in advance to ensure seats. We booked in April for June!!

Really nice cottage, lovely views, plenty of wildlife (saw sea otter from front window and pine marten in back garden, as well as seals, and loads of birds). Cottage is well equipped with benefit of very good broadband and freesat TV. Whilst others have commented on steepness of drive, we didn't find it a problem even though my wife is partially disabled. You do have to be careful emerging onto the road though as traffic seems to ignore the speed limit. The local bistro/shop/post office is very friendly and helpful and they do excellent coffee and scones. We found the Whistlefield Inn on the Dunoon Road a lovely place to eat - reasonable prices and lovely views. Overall we really liked staying here and may return in future.

A warm, comfortable little holiday home, with everything we could wish for.
A warm, comfortable little holiday home, with everything we could wish for. The winter season meant some of the local restaurants were closed, but the information in the cottage was helpful. Beautiful scenery and views from the cottage picture windows.
