4 Bedroom, 3.5 bath with huge backyard and outdoor lanai close to town & beach.

Aloha! Our house is perfect for one or even two families traveling together. Every bedroom has a slider that gives access to the enormous backyard. Each bedroom also has a ceiling fan and we now have 3 new portable air conditioning units for the hot summer months. The house has been recently completely renovated and newly furnished and maintains a relaxed yet comfortable and modern appeal. There are many big windows in every room providing for an abundance of natural light throughout the house. Views of the Ko'olau mountains from the upstairs balcony as well as from the living room and backyard patio. Master suite is in it's own downstairs wing of the house with a very comfy, memory foam California King Bed, plenty of closet space, a large master suite bathroom with double sink vanity, large walk-in shower and divided toilet area. There is also a junior suite on the other side of the downstairs portion of the house. This room is smaller with a Queen sized bed, slider access to the patio and it's own bathroom including single vanity, toilet and shower...all recently new. The living room, dining area and kitchen are all open to each other. There is a small laundry room off of the kitchen with new front loading washer and dryer, cabinetry and all the supplies you would need to do your laundry and clean up after yourselves. Our kitchen contains all stainless steel appliances with a 5 burner gas range for cooking. The kitchen is well equipped with all you should need to cook for your family. There is an office nook just off of the dining area if you need to get some work done and this is also where the half bath is located. Upstairs there is a large, open family room with many windows that look out in three different directions. It is a very open, airy bright part of the house. There is a sofa and bookshelves with many children's books. We also have toys up in this area and this is where the television is located. There is a full bathroom off of this room that was built completely new and has a tub/shower. Upstairs is also where the other two bedrooms are located. One bedroom has 2 twin beds and the other bedroom has 1 Queen size bed. These are nice size bedrooms with 2 large windows each as well as sliders that lead out onto the balcony. As previously mentioned, our backyard is huge and a fun area for your keiki to explore. We have a big trampoline back there as well as a large plumeria tree the kids like to climb in. The yard is completely fenced and has plenty of room for the kids to run and play or to setup a volleyball net or play outdoor games. The living room has a wall of sliders that open to the outdoor lanai. It is really great for indoor/outdoor living. Solid bamboo flooring throughout with beautiful new tile work in bathrooms, kitchen and dining area. Our house is an easy walk to the beach and town too! This house has really been a dream come true to live in! This home was originally built in the 1930's and when we purchased it we wanted to bring it back to life yet maintain it's historic charm. We have been so fortunate to call this house our home and we feel proud to have the ability to offer it to other families who will love and respect it as their own. We have very nice neighbors who also have kids right next door as well as across the street and just behind our property as well. These are all very friendly families and if you stay for an extended period of time we hope that you will introduce yourselves.

About Judy McKie

We bought this house in 2013 and completely refurbished it and opened it up into a beautiful living space. We have loved living here but must go back to the mainland for the time being. We hope to come back often to enjoy our house and we are making it available to other families who can also appreciate it's functionality and close proximity to the beach and all of the Kailua Town amenities.

Why Judy McKie chose Kailua

We bought this property because of the huge backyard! We have three kids and having that yard has been invaluable. The house itself needed a complete renovation and we could not move into it for a year after purchasing it as there was so much work that had to be done. It was worth the wait, however! It is a very beautiful yet comfortable and casual house that is also super close to the beach. The location is perfect! You will never have to worry about traffic getting to or from the house as you set out to explore the island. There are bike lanes that run along our street and it is a thoroughfare used by runners, bikers, skateboarders, etc. It is a nice place to be!

What makes this House unique

We have worked in the field of historic preservation so we understood the potential of this house when we first encountered it for sale. What makes it so unique is that the house is on a very large lot and is so close to the beach. I loved that each bedroom was on it's own separate side of the house which lends to a feeling of privacy when you want your downtime from the family. We have a lovely entryway garden that leads to the front stoop. It is just a charming place to spend your time.

                                                              Traveled to Oahu with our young kids, in laws, and an uncle, so this was perfect for us. Our family had the upstairs, and everyone had their own bathrooms downstairs. View from the upstairs bedrooms is gorgeous. Huge backyard was a plus for the kids. Location is fantastic. Easy walk to the beach. Judy was helpful and prompt with replying to questions. It did get hot upstairs, but not enough to make us use the AC as it was kind of loud. Kitchen was very nice. Would stay here again.

                                                              Firstly I’d like to say that we are quite frequent homeaway users and have stayed in many rentals over the years. This was our first visit to Oahu. We have been to Kauai twice. Kailua is definitely the right place to stay for a family with kids or small children. We thoroughly enjoyed the lovely beaches in the area and we chose to drive to Lanikai beach most days due to its beauty and due to the calmer water for our toddler. We also loved the farmers market on Thursday evenings and had the Pho every time! Regarding the houses it is a very comfortable house equipped with everything one will need for the stay. I am always impressed when an owner ensures that the basics are met: ie shampoo, soaps, coffee, sugar, condiments etc and LOTS of stuff for the beach plus a buggy. It was easy get hold of Judy. She was always helpful. She was very responsive. And the price point of this house was amazing. Very affordable for a house with this many rooms. So why not 5 stars? Basically it just came down to the fact that the house was not completely comfortable for our situation with a toddler. We were obliged to be in the house from noon until late afternoon for her naps; which in prior reviews you’ll note, is VERY hot inside the house. We are slso afternoon nappers and I was quite uncomfortable. It was surprisingly hot for October and we had to put the little one upstairs in front of the mobile AC to cool down. There’s only one in the house. And plenty of fans. It did tend to cool down somewhat at night, but sometimes it didn’t. The second is that this is a very busy neighbourhood. The house is located on a very busy street, the front gate can’t lock and it can potentially be dangerous if you don’t keep a close eye on your kids. So do. The street it also noisy and cars and sirens can be heard at all hours esp from two of the rooms. The houses are close together and we heard the neighbors next door quite often. Luckily they’re not loud or noisy and they never partied at night. I do think the house needs a new can opener. The master bedroom matress was very uncomfortable by the middle of the night and starting to sag and we aren’t heavy people at all. I think this house would be great for adults wanting to travel the island and for families with older children who will be out and about during the warm sunny days! Overall a good experience. Thanks for another wonderful Hawaii vacation!

                                                              Our extended family stayed at this house in August and we had a wonderful time! It is only a few minutes walk to Kalama Beach and a short drive to Kailua town, Kailua Beach & Lanikai Beach. The house is tastefully decorated and fully equipped. We enjoyed family dinners and barbecuing on the grill. The kids loved the outside trampoline, hammock, and treasure chest of activities in the upstairs living room. We also enjoyed the supplied boogie boards at Kalama Beach. This house has everything you need! Since we stayed during the summer months, the house was hot for most of the day, but the upstairs air conditioning and ceiling fans in every bedroom helped. We highly recommend this home and hope to return someday!

                                                              Judy was very prompt answering our questions and very accommodating. All of us, six adults and two young children, enjoyed our stay. It was very easy to take the wagon with chairs, towels, boogie boards, etc. the two blocks to the beach. The house had everything that we needed.

                                                              We had a wonderful family vacation. The house was laid out perfectly. The four kids loved having their own den upstairs. Location was very convenient. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch every night. Loved the hammock chair! The only minus was no air conditioner (which we knew about ahead of time). I think time of year affected that more. We were two families of four and one couple. Great kitchen. Loved our stay. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home!

I know how hot the house gets in the middle of the summer, LOL, and I am so sorry if you were uncomfortable! I purchased the air conditioner for the upstairs family room as a respite from the heat. Unfortunately, because of the downstairs window styles we cannot accommodate air conditioning down there...at least not until we are ready to purchase wall units, and even then, because of the open floor plan, it will be logistically tricky! Fortunately, the solar panels allow us to run the upstairs air conditioning freely so I hope you tried to take advantage! Again, I completely understand because I lived there for several summers... The house is cool in the summer mornings and the evenings but it's best to be out on the beach during mid-day! Aloha! Judy

                                                              Wonderful space in a wonderful place

                                                              We have been to Kailua several times over the past 10 years, and this was the nicest house in which we've stayed. The interior feels personal and tasteful, the kitchen is well-equipped, the huge, sunny backyard is great for kids, all the beds were comfortable and there is plenty of space for a family to stretch out. Judy was quick to reply with helpful answers to any question and kindly allowed us to have an early check-in, since our flight landed at 10:30 a.m. Location-wise, the home is an easy walk to the Kalama Beach entrance to Kailua Beach, perfect for early morning runs and afternoon boogie boarding sessions. It's not far from the center of Kailua town, either. We really appreciated having a home base that was this nice, and hope to return!

                                                              Our house is situated in an ideal location to walk to beautiful Kalamas Beach Park on Kailua Beach or stroll into town for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This beach is one of the most beautiful on the island and the Kalama Beach Park is right in the middle of it all! This is a very special part of Kailua Beach. Kailua Town, itself, offers boutique shopping, restaurants, spas, salons, health food stores and pretty much anything else a discerning vacationer would want or need. There are several Farmer's Markets that take place throughout the week and our house is walkable/bike rideable to all. We especially enjoy the Sunday morning Farmer's Market at Kailua Elementary School which is a quick 10-15 minute walk from the house. It's a great place to grab a farmer's breakfast and sit under the canopy tent and listen to live music usually played by Paul Izak and his band (look him up, he's amazing!). There are also local Hawaiian artisans selling jewelry, soaps and other items with uniquely sourced materials/ingredients only found in Hawaii. The Kailua District Park is also about a 10 minute walk from here. There are awesome tennis courts (8 of them) which have lights for evening play and there is a large public swimming pool as well. There are indoor/outdoor basketball courts as well as a small skateboard park. Nestled in the middle of all of this is a small playground for the kids. It is a very fun and active place to be in the evenings! If you would like to workout or take some exercise classes while you are here you will have many options! Nufitness offers a variety of fun exercise classes (barre, TRX, Yoga, Surfset plus more) and have packages for visitors. There is also Hot Yoga by the Sea which is one of my favorite yoga studios ever. Want a great, inexpensive massage? I recommend Nori Kohana. They have a very casual, beachy environment and they have many great massage therapists who work there. All of these things are very convenient to our house and easily walkable/bikeable. You may also rent bikes at the Bike Shop on Kailua Rd for $100 weekly...not sure what the daily rate would be... We have been living here for a few years so if you have any questions for recommendations, please ask!
