A wonderful stay

We rented the property for almost three weeks and enjoyed our stay very much. The accommodation was comfortable, the large terrace had incredible views and we spent the majority of our time there sitting outside. We also loved the area, down in Pedregalejo along the beach and in the small conurbation close to us. We used the local bus regularly to go into the centre of Malaga, about 15 minutes away. It was a great holiday, with a wide variety of activities from beach to cultural. Our neighbour, Joaquin and his little dog Nieve were delightful. Thank you Susan.

Flott utsikt

I spent 4 weeks in Susan'apartment, a real pleasur : beautiful view (sea), very quiet, residential district, the beach 5 mn walking, public buses very practical (I recommend to rent a bike, there is a rental place just down the avenue). The great "plus" : you are away the tourist crowd, this side of Malaga being residential, you really live "the Spanish way", and the neighboor Joaquin is above all very nice and helpful !

A taste of real Spain

We stayed for a week in August with our 2 teenage boys and had a great time. The location is excellent - in a quiet residential area but just a short walk to the beach and restaurants. Fantastic sea views and we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony whilst the boys chilled out in the bright, comfortable living room. We used the regular bus service to go into Malaga - a city we have visited before and love. But the highlight was being so close to Pedrejalejo beach and the restaurants, bars and cafes that line the beach front. We rarely heard another language other than Spanish which was great for my son studying for his Spanish GCSE. Lovely atmosphere and not touristy at all. Yes the walk back to the apartment up the hill is steep but it got easier as the week went on and we got fitter! A great apartment - clean and well equipped with big bedrooms. We would definitely like to return. Many thanks Susan for all your help.

Hervorragend

Sehr saubere und gut ausgestattete Ferienwohnung. Wir hatten alles, was man braucht.

A really enjoyable stay

The view from the flat is spectacular, the living room has character and lots of light, kitchen and bathroom are new and works well, the bedrooms are spacious with good closet space. The seven minute walk down the hill takes you to the bus station from where the busses go frequently into the centre. Another few minutes walk and you hit the long, beautiful and charming beach with more then 50 cafes and restaurants to chose between. The walk back up to the flat might be stiep but worth it for the sunrises and views. For shopping, I would recommend the center behind the flat, on the other side of the hilltop, where you will find a supermarket, newspapershop, bakery and a handful of restaurants, and this is an easy walk. I visited in January and the nights were cold. Therefore, bring slippers and pyjamas. If you come by car, park it in the street above as Calle Jarama is a narrow, steep dead-end street. I recommend this flat as an authentic Spanish holiday.

Hope to be back

We stayed the week before Christmas 2016 and had a fantastic break. The weather was kind and we enjoyed being outside during the day, we didn’t have a car and walked all over, you can walk into the centre along the beach promenade or to the El Morlaco park behind the house. You can come back on the bus, the service is good and cheap too, and it runs all night! The beach is great for a walk or a meal, simple fish cooked in front of you and a glass of wine, it doesn’t get better than that. As it isn’t a resort there life goes on even in winter and I love that. This time of the year the sun came up right out of the Mediterranean – amazing. You are spoilt for choice of restaurants but some nights we stayed in and cooked simple food, the apartment has everything you need and the view at night is relaxing. It is heated by a gas heater and there are a couple of wall heaters which we didn’t need. The apartment is nicely furnished and well equipped, there are two desks so if you bring your laptop you can work or watch TV because the WiFi is good. Susan was very helpful and made some good suggestions, she told us the apartment is going to be refurbished when we leave so can’t wait to come back next year!

Perfect place for sun, writing and relaxation

We were taken by the charm of the building, the view, the apartment itself and the area. We loved spending time in the shade of the green back patio of the house, which is an ocean of green plants and also has a lemon tree (we picked a couple of lemons and made drinks). The apartment itself is simple, practical, nice and soulful. Each of the three spacious bedrooms has a desk, which is good for working. We both LOVED Pedregalejo and just about made it to Malaga center one night. We were two writers, spending the mornings working and the afternoons by the sea. The apartment has a stunning view of Pedregalejo and the Mediterrean. Very quite, locatED in a dead end street. Near the beach area that somehow reminded us of Venice Beach; beautiful small houses, many nice cafes and restaurants (excellent seafood). The walk down is seven to eight minutes. It did us a little longer to get back, due to the hill, full bellies and sometimes one toO many “tinto de verano” (must be tried; red wine, soda water and lemom). We certainly want to come back to Casa Esperanza and Pedregalejo. Great value for the money and a real Spain experience.

3 bed apartment

Not the apartment for us ..... though some of this was down to us making the wrong choice on location and probably our expectation of the apartment. Plus point first - Susan was really helpful from first contact regarding booking the property - regular contact and extremely understanding and flexible. Negative points - I'd prefer to think of these as observations, or things we think should be specified in the description, and which would have informed our choice, but here we go.... 1. Parking is dreadful - the street in front of the property is very narrow, and on a steep slope (all the cars are half parked on the pavement). It's also a cul-de-sac and if the house at the bottom had had cars in front of it, there would have been nowhere to turn round - even so, it took me a 9 point turn in a small car to turn round in it, and we saw several locals reversing 100 metres up the road to get out - if you're not a confident driver you'll be stuck. 2. Yes, it's a 5 minute walk down to the beach, but a good 15 / 20 minutes walk back - the incline is very steep and not for the faint hearted (literally) 3. The apartment was VERY hot (we were there in July, but even so ...), and I'm afraid 2 old fans aren't going to keep it cool - yes, as mentioned, if you have the front windows and back doors open, you quite often get a breeze going through, but you're not going to sleep with door open ! Also, when we were there, the blinds on the front window were broken, so closing them wasn't an option. 4. As has been mentioned in other reviews, Joaquin next door is lovely and helpful, but he has two Yorkshire Terriers that literally didn't stop yapping the whole time we were there - any movement at all in the apartment, never mind the small terrace, set them off. Particularly annoying at night when trying to get to sleep. 5. Final point - we found the decor and facilities in the apartment a little "tired" - the kitchen especially could do with some modernisation. As I said, not for us, but it is what it is, relatively cheap, in an authentic Spanish part of the City (not touristy at all) and hopefully my comments will help others make an informed decision as to whether to book it

Girls tour

Loved this place !!! If you want a local experience and not the regular tourist stuff this is the place to be . All the fabulous seafood on the promenade is to die for . Check out El Tintero , they don't have a menu ,just walk around with plates of goodness that you point at . 6€ each . They count your plates at the end that's what you you pay . Susan the manager was super , even saw that we got tickets to walk the "Caminito del Ray " in El Chorro . I strongly recommend doing it ,so very beautiful . I agree with another comment to bring slippers in winter . I paid 1 € atthe market in Fuengirola for a pair , that way you can leave them behind when you go . Transportation to anywhere is great in Malaga as well as from the apartment . We were 3 senior ladies, and here for three weeks and on the run every day !! Can't say enough about Malaga ,the Spanish people and our wonderful time here. Leaving the apartment tomorrow for Granada ,I will leave a piece of my heart here. Thank you for everything Susan and answering all my many questions

Wonderful Christmas Week

This is a basic apartment that has everything you need for a relaxing stay. It was spotlessly clean, and we arrived to a bottle of wine, oranges and lemons. The view from the terrace was stupendous, however because it was late December the sun left it at 3.30pm. Pedregalejo is a wonderful place, fish restaurants superb. Very Spanish, I hardly heard any other English spoken, but we managed with sign language and shouting! The kitchen and bathroom are very basic and perhaps could do with updating, but this added to the charm of the place. There was always plenty of hot water and we were very cosy at night with the gas heater. All in all we had a lovely week.

Really lovely, homely apartment

A lovely home from home. Cozy 2 bed apartment perfect for two people. Really near the beach and so easy to get into Malaga city. Small but adequate kitchen, we cooked in every second night. Close to supermarkets, bus stop etc... Amazing terrace, to sit out on in the morning for breakfast and in the evening for sunset... Great view of the bay. It's the kind of place we would love to live in all year round. Worth noting: it is a steep walk up the hill from the beach road; also the terrace is part of shared access to neighbouring apartment but that didn't bother us. We will be back. Thank you Susan! We'd love to live here!

We've stayed in both apartments. The larger one has a terrific view over the bay from the living room and a small balcony to sit on. But for a couple, the smaller flat is just great. It has 2 bedrooms, a double and a twin room, which is the bigger of the 2. The smaller apartment has the larger terrace which really makes the holiday. It has fabulous views over the town, the bay and the sea. You can retreat to the shade offered by the terrace of the upstairs apartments. When things get too warm, there's often a nice breeze that blows up off the sea. There are a great many restaurants and bars to eat in downtown Cerrado de Calderon and on Pedregalejo seafront. You could eat in a different place every night for months if you wanted to. We don't, because it gets expensive and my wife's a terrific cook. So we use the kitchen which, compared with English ones, is admittedly basic. But that's not a problem, we even cooked a whole Christmas dinner in it last year. The bathroom has a shower, sink and toilet, and of course they're just fine. The comfortable living room is lovely to sit in, in the winter, and it's another cool place to sit in when it gets too hot. As the owner's description says, it's not luxurious but it is comfortable. We've a little holiday Spanish and get by, loving the fact that there are hardly any Brits here. This is no Marbella, or Benidorm. We love to walk down the hill along the sea front into Malaga, it's about 40 minutes, but the local buses are frequent if you're not a walker. But the sea front at Pedregalejo is full of interest, and you could spend all day in cafes, and strolling along, just people-watching. We stop at a chiringuito on the way back from Malaga City, where we have a leisurely lunch and maybe hire a beach umbrella and sun lounger until it's cooler. I like to get a beer from one of the boys who walk endlessly along the beach with a cool box. We've been at different times of the year and any time's a good time for a wee break at Casa Esperanza. Every time we leave we're already thinking when can we come again?

Winter break in Malaga

Coming from Northern Europe in January, we really enjoyed the light and the bright sun. The views from the apartment are very nice, with spectacular sunrises. The small protected balcony is great for morning coffee. When the sun disappears around midday it's time to walk down to the promenade in Pedregalejo and view the menus offered by the variety of restaurants found there. We really liked the fresh, grilled in front of your eyes. The apartment is nicely furnished and well equipped, including good WiFi. You have to be a bit careful, not turning on the warm water in the shower at full strength or you will have a very short shower. The floors are tiled so it's a good idea to bring slippers in the winter. The walk down to the sea front takes about 10 minutes, coming back a bit longer due to the fairly steep rise. Convenient buses to Malaga run every 10 minutes.

Great balance between beach and city !

Apartment just right for two of us but may be a bit of a squeeze for four. The terrace is fab - we spent many an hour gazing into the distance, soaking up the sun. Location is great - the bus into town goes from the end of the road every half hour and it is within walking distance of some enormous beaches, a decent supermarket and plenty of bars and restaurants. We walked into the centre of Malaga in about forty minutes but it is worth having a car to explore Andalucia and get a bit of variety in visiting different beaches. Yes, there is a hill to climb on the way back but it's worth it for the view ! The only minus points are the beds (which seem to be extraordinarily short even for Spain) and the limited kitchen facilities, which suited us for making sambas al ajillo and pan-fried merluza but may be a challenge for more serious cooking. Otherwise it was a perfect holiday and we send a big vote of thanks to Susan, our host.

Traditional Spanish living

I loved that the apartment had a very private balcony at the front with amazing views and a lovely leafy terrace at the back. The apartment was well laid out with everything you need for a two week stay. The double bed was very squeaky and I woke up every time I turned over so had to decamp to the twin room after two nights. I loved the views but really didn't enjoy the climb up the very steep hill at the end of an evening. Last year I spent a week walking in the Picos de Europa so I am used to walking and at home I run in the Lammermuir Hills so am not unfit. It's just not that great to round off your night after a meal and some wine with such a heavy climb!

I moved to Spain after I left school at the beginning of the 70s when Torremolinos was just opening up to tourism. After several hotel and office jobs I became a translator and never looked back. We decided to move inland 12 years ago, where we manage 4 holiday cottages in the Nature Park of El Chorro www.homeaway.co.uk/2678

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

The first time I visited Casa Esperanza, before I lived there, I was immediately blown away by the view, so relaxing by both day and night. I was already living in Pedregalejo so I rented one of the apartments first of all and then when the chance to buy came up I took it and I have never looked back.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

Pedregalejo has still the character of a village although it is only a couple of kilometres from the centre of Málaga. It has also managed to keep its Spanish character over the years. There are few hotels and hostels here and this means visitors don't come in mass. At night from the sitting room you can still watch the lights of the fishing boats in the sea.
