About Marina Davi
Marina and Capt. Vasilis Davis build this villa for their children and they are build to the highest standard. However since their children live in other countries they decided to rent them as holiday rentals. They are a marine family working in merchant marine vessels. They speak English and their daughter Helen speaks both English and French. They are very hospitable, friendly and helpful. They offer help when it is needed in a discrete way. Many people keep visiting the villa again and again because of them.
Marina Davi purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Marina Davi chose Rethimno
We decided to build our villa in this location because it is in front of the sea and offers fantastic sea views. Also we were very keen to work with the garden and we liked the big olive grove that surrounds the villa. Many of the olive trees are 400 years old! We like to collect the olives every November and to produce our own extra virgin olive oil.
What makes this Villa unique
What is really unique is the big variety of Cretan herbs that are abundant in the garden and you could collect them and use them in your cooking and for tea or as beauty and perfume products. We also have carob and olive trees in a big olive grove and you could be invoved in the collection of the olives. In the garden there are also pieces of art made of natural materials like stone and wood.

Fabulous villa, pool and garden near Rethymno
We had a really wonderful 10 days in Villa Danna. The house is perfect for the large group of 10. Immaculately presented and clean. Each room with en-suite bathrooms, and private balconies. Our hosts Marina and Vassilis were the warmest and loveliest people you could wish for. The welcome basket of fruit and wine was so generous and the Cretan spirit of Filoxenia - hospitality and warm generosity, was evident from day one. Marina offered fantastic advice about beaches, tavernas, and where to shop, as well as recommending the best homemade icecream from a neighbour. Vassilis offered such support and help when one of our party needed a hospital visit., driving us to Rethymnon and patiently waiting with us. We met all the family at a party and were invited to join in the dancing and festivities. We really felt like part of their family and were honoured to be invited to plant an olive tree in their olive grove before we departed. I wholeheartedly recommend staying here, as getting to know these lovely people made our holiday even more special. So much more memorable than an anonymous resort by the coast. The views from the house are superb with sunsets over the sea and mountains in the distance. Marina was also really helpful in connecting us up with someone who could sort out our trip to Samaria Gorge - a fabulous day of walking if that's the sort of thing you like. The gorge was very busy in July - but still a highlight of our holiday. The pool and garden are kept beautifully - each morning Vassilis cleans and hoses down the pool area. Thank you so much from all of us to our lovely hosts and family in Crete.
Lovely villa for a wonderful holiday with friends and family
We were a group of friends (8 in total with two kids, 3 and 4 years old) who stayed at Villa Danna. And we just loved it!
Before the stay I was in contact with the hosts and right of the bat they were very helpful and willing to answer any questions (from where to rent a car to providing floor plans for the whole house). Communication was quick and effortless.
At the day of arrival Vasilis (one of the hosts) met up with us at the exit ramp of the national road and guided us to the house. It was a great feeling rolling through the gate of the faciliy and realize that the pictures just did not do it justice, it was even better! The fully grown garden is beautiful and well kept (even in the middle of summer), the pool is really as big as it looks (check Google earth if you want confirmation) and there really is privacy to the other Villa with the full hedge that separates the two houses. When entering the house you realize that the ceilings are much higher than it looks in the pictures which certainly is a plus.
The rooms are big with en suite bathrooms (like a normal hotel room) with individual AC, very nice. Beds are good but not what I’d call comfy. On the other hand I’ve never slept in a comfy bed in Greece so that probably says more about me than the beds.
The kitchen is good with all the pots and pans you might need. However, If there is one thing to remark on in this Villa it is the size of the dishwasher. It is not a full size but rather a counter top size thing. Not a big thing but there are things you might rather do on vacation than dishes.
There are a lot of things to love about this place but one of the things we were very much in agreement on in our group I that the different spaces for eating / hanging out are just perfect! For us, the schedule was:
Breakfast & cooked lunches – The table at the lower balcony
Dinner – Under the grapevines (super tasty grapes!) in the outdoor kitchen / grill area.
Coffee/After dinner drinks – In the sofas on the rooftop terrace watching the sun set over the Mediterranean.
The hosts are absolutely wonderful! They are hospitable, kind and everything is just easy with them. They did not intrude in any way and any time they popped by it was to assist us with something we had asked for, to show the kids the new kitten that their cat just had or to bring us some ice cream (from the local, small scale, ice cream factory just 400 meters(!) from the villa)!
I would highly recommend thi rental to anyone!
We spent our holiday at Villa Danna with family and friends all September. We are very happy for choosing Villa Danna. Villa is at very harmony place: silence, nice view from terasa, but if you want to have shopping, dinner, bars or night life you can get it at Rethymno. Rethymno is ~5-7 km from Villa Danna. Villa is comfortable to stay with family or with friends. Rooms are good conditioned, with a lot of space, all of them has private balkony. Villa has 2 perfect terrasas. One of them is good place to see sunsent with a wine glass, at other you can have perfect brekfast with a nice view to olive trees garden. Villa has a big teritory with nice pool. It was amazing to use owner‘s garden! We had a fresh tomatos, spice herbal at every day. We were in Crete not first time, but we never met such fantastic owner. Especially thank you for Marina and Vasilis. They are very helpful, you can feel like at home. We had memorable holidays at this villa. Thank you!!!
Great villa with swimming pool
Perfect house with swimming pool and great view from terrace. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Very well kept, spacious and clean house and grounds. Small vegetable garden for guests to harvest tomatoes etc. Highly recommended for families or groups of friends.
Fab holiday at Villa Danna
The location is within a short drive from the pretty town of Rethimno and several lovely beaches. This upmarket villa is stunning!! It is large enough to house all the family including the grandparents and an assortment of children. The private grounds have been lovingly landscaped by the owners and provide ample room for wedding parties. The villa itself is very modern and is kept spotlessly clean. It has views of the blue med which we enjoyed endlessly while sipping a gin and tonic on the huge veranda!! The swimming pool was big and clean. What a great way to start the day!
We were warmly welcomed by Marina, the owner, who speaks good English. She kept us entertained with stories of life in Crete past and present. And her cookies were the best. We look forward to returning for a repeat helping of this place in paradise.
How to be better welcomed than by Marina and Vasilis in a beautiful, clean and quiet villa, view on the mountains and the sea from both sundecks, with a massive olive trees garden surrounding the swimming pool. Marina and Vasilis have been great hosts, very available, considerate and friendly to make our staying relaxed and comfortable. Thanks again Marina and Vasilis for your kindness.
Argyroupolis village is only 15-20 minutes drive from the villa. There you can enjoy the springs and the small waterfalls and you can eat in beautiful small tavernas by thewaterfalls. Also the village Margarites is 30-40 minutes away and there you can do and buy pottery as it is a vilage that produces clay products. The Monastery of Arkadi is only 35-40 minutes away and there you can read about the history of the 900 Cretan rebellions against the Ottoman Empire and see the remainings of this battle. At the same distance there is a fantastic museum of Eleftherna where you can see Greek Ancient remainings and objects that were used since the era of Homer and they confim what was written in Odysseia and Heliada.
