Heart-Smiling

  • 5 of 5

We can’t say enough about the Encino

park cottage. I’ll begin with Jhane and Norman’s five star service. You both were so very nice.

Who needs the Marriott Spa Resort when you have a cottage like this! The cottage had everything we needed plus more. And the views were breathtaking!! It’s hard to believe that this beautiful place was only 1 block away from a major street! However, it was beautifully quiet & still. It was such a heart smiling moment to wake up to a nice cup of coffee and see baby deer and cardinals outside the kitchen window. Also, my son loved running and exploring the beautiful shaded yard and the swing set. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. It exceeded our expectations. Although we are moving to San Antonio, this will not be the last time you see us. We will be back for R&R weekend getaways!!! Blessings and Love,

Lovely Property

  • 5 of 5

Spent a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staying here was peaceful and gave us the opportunity to relax, but be close to anything we needed during graduation. The cottage was very spacious and well equipped. We would highly recommend it.

Absolutely fabulous! Highly recommend staying here.

The property is a relaxing country oasis right in town. An absolute gem. The little house is stocked with anything you might need, has super comfy furniture and beds, and is clean and wonderful. We loved watching the wildlife through every window and from every porch. Can't wait to return.

Perfect stay in a beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay at Villa Encino. The house was very comfortable, clean and one of the best equipped rentals we have ever stayed in. Jhane and Gordon have put a lot of thought into the house, which is beautifully decorated with comfy sofas and chairs in several sitting areas so you can make best use of the light.

The location is perfect, only 20 minutes from the Riverwalk and San Antonio’s other main attractions yet the house and garden were so quiet you felt as though you were in the countryside. The back deck was very private and we enjoyed watching the deer each morning.

Jhane and Gordon were the perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome. We loved every minute of our stay and would recommend it the house to anyone visiting San Antonio.

Activities in Area

LaCantera Shopping Center

—an open-air shopping complex near Loop 1604 and Interstate 10 that houses high-end retail stores (Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus) along with technology shops (Apple, Microsoft) and upscale restaurants (Whiskey Cake, Perry’s Steakhouse).

—Perry’s Restaurant is a favorite! On Fridays, the amazing pork chops (none like them anywhere!) are the lunchtime special. You will truly remember them forever.

Shops at the Rim

—LaCantera’s sister shopping complex within 10 minutes with World Market, Target, JC Penney, Nordstrom Rack, James Avery, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shop, etc.

Great restaurants— Maggiano’s Little Italy, Bob’s Steak & Chop House, BJ’s Brewhouse, The Hofbrau. There’s outdoor seating and entertainment at Hofbrau, and you can enjoy a variety of good beer!

Santikos Palladium IMAX Art-house Movie Theatre with AVX Entertainment

—a multiple screen complex located in the Rim Shopping Center

Before your movie, you can sit upstairs at the bar and order Margaritas and Nachos!

There’s even a band playing outdoors on the upper balcony on most Saturday nights.

Boerne, Texas

—a small town 20 minutes from guesthouse in the county seat of Kendall County and part of the Texas Hill Country. Every 2nd Saturday, there are goods for sale by private vendors in the town square. Have a glass of wine at Boerne Wine Company. Shop at multiple antique stores on Hauptstrasse. Eat lunch at Dienger’s on market square or one of many great restaurants along River Road. Have a bear claw dessert at the famous Bear Moon Bakery. You won’t regret spending your day here.

Top Golf, Fiesta Texas, Sea World

—Top Gold & Fiesta Texas— 10 minutes

—-Sea World— 20 minutes

Restaurants on Interstate 10--

—we call this Restaurant Row along this interstate. They are numerous and in close proximity. Some of these are—

Mexican— Chuy’s, Alamo Care, Pappasitos, Mamacitas

Steak— Outback, County Line, Saltgrass

Italian— Olive Garden, Carrabba’s, Macaroni Grill

Burgers— Chester’s, Whataburger

Restaurants on Loop 1604

—another Restaurant Row. Some of our favorites are close to the 1604/10 exchange area.

Seafood— Wildfish (excellent!)

Italian— Paesano’s (5 star!), Scuzzi’s

Steak— Chama Gaucha Brazilian, Silo (New York style!)

Downtown San Antonio

—shop at Market Square for Mexican goods for sale. Be sure to check out the Katrinas, Mexican dishes, and pottery. You will find them as reasonable as shopping at the Mexican border. No visit is complete without a visit to the Alamo, rich with Texas History. Have a drink at famous bar on the bottom floor of the old Menger Hotel. (Many claim Menger is haunted.) Then take a walk along the river. A river barge ride on the San Antonio River and a quick visit to River Center Mall are well worth the time.

—Mi Tierra Restaurant at Market Square— Your visit won’t be complete without a visit here. Drink a margarita at the bar and purchase a pastry/candy from the amazing bakery of world-famous Mi Tierra’s Restaurant. Mariachis will serenade you during dinner here. Be sure to taste their flour tortillas.

New Braunfels and Gruene, Texas

—New Braunfels is located about 45 minutes from the guesthouse. A city in Comal and Guadalupe counties and popular as a tourist town. Home of Landa Park, the Comal River for tubing, Schlitterbahn, and Canyon Lake. Many restaurants in the area serve authentic German food.

—Gruene, Texas is designated a Historic Town by the State of Texas. Visitors love Gruene so much they come back every year. Gruene Hall is a bar and dance hall built in 1880’s and is the oldest Dance Hall in Texas. Learn how to do the Texas Two Step here. Legends perform here—Willie Nelson, George Strait, Lyle Lovett, and John Travolta in the movie Michael. There are antique and hand-crafted stores and a great restaurant—the Grist Mill! Market Days here are the 3rd weekend from February -November.

Austin, Texas

an hour and 30 minutes drive from the guesthouse on the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country, Austin is not only the state capital, but lays claim to being the live music capital of the world. Home to the University of Texas and Formula 1’s Circuit of the Americas raceway. It’s a fast-growing city with residential prices more like New York and LA. Great shopping on Congress and famous Guero’s Mexican restaurant. A swim in Barton Springs and visit to Zilker Park round out a great day!
