About the property

2 bedroom/2 bath lakefront chalet on a secluded private cove. Kayaks included.

Beautiful LAKEFRONT Chalet on 2.8 acres on Watauga Lake. Gorgeous views of the lake and mountains from every part of the house. Step out onto the porch with morning coffee or an afternoon cocktail to relax with breathtaking views. Walk down the steps in total privacy to your secluded cove (with only one neighbor) to jump in the 3rd cleanest lake in the country! Your private cove is separated from the main lake by a private peninsula and other houses are miles away. Paddle one of the chalet’s kayaks from your private dock to fish, view the bald eagles nest or simply explore the 105 miles of national forest that border the lake.

- Watch your kids and friends swim from the porch.

-Grill out on the commercial grade gas grill listening to your tunes on the Bluetooth sound bar, while you forget your cares and make new memories!

-- Gather around the bonfire sharing stories of a day on the lake and looking at the extensive views of the water and national forest.

- Fish from the dock, or take a kayak or your boat down the nearby Elk River. Skiers and wake boarders can easily ski from the cove on some of the least trafficked parts of the lake (not that ANY part of the lake is crowded!)

Boat & paddleboard rentals are available at the local marinas, or you can use our BOAT LAUNCH RAMP to launch your own boat- tie it up to the dock, or pontoons can beach right across from the Chalet.

The house is easily accessible and easy to get to from 321! The driveway is private and level (optional locking gate), no four-wheel drive is necessary.

• PRIVATE Dock (not community)

• Bring your own Boat: Boat launch within walking distance!

• 2 Kayaks

• -VERY PRIVATE: you have over 200 feet of private lakefront with only one other neighbor in sight that shares the private cove.

• Bedroom 2: 1 Double with full bath (double luxurious shower heads) and ample space

• 2 Bathrooms, one with a double shower head, the other with a jetted whirlpool tub for two!

WHY VISIT WATAUGA LAKE?

Watauga Lake is one of the most beautiful and clean recreational lakes (3rd cleanest in the country) on the eastern seaboard. It’s located in the Cherokee National forest with 105 miles of shoreline. More than half of the lake is bordered by undeveloped national forest. Watauga lake is great for boating, jet-skiing, tubing, skiing/wakeboarding, fishing, swimming, kayaking etc.

You can easily take day trips to whitewater rafting, a local winery, hike the Appalachian trail or Roan Mountain (known for gorgeous views, rhododendron forests, and cross country skiing) or find a secluded waterfall (we’ve got maps at the chalet). Drive to the thriving college town of Boone, NC 45 minutes away (check the concert schedule!), or visit the popular Banner Elk and Blowing Rock, NC.

The summers are sunny and warm during the day with no mosquitoes (incredible, but true!), and the evenings cool off in the 60’s – making the nights extremely pleasant. Autumn brings beautiful fall colors with even better views. In the winter time, skiing is a popular option at nearby Beech Mountain. Lake Hideaway Chalet is truly a wonderland of recreational activity!

About Karen Lally

Karen Lally: As an Asheville, North Carolina native, I love all things outdoors, great food, and craft beer. I am an avid cyclist turned crossfitter. We have 3 dogs and two cats, and love to get the dogs into the woods as much as possible. We always gravitate to home rentals for our vacations extensively throughout the US and Europe, as we love the personal touch and non-touristy feel. Therefore, we know what makes a good vacation rental! I am an avid foodie, and appreciate a little luxury as the years go by!

Kim Watson is co-owner of the Lake Hideaway Chalet. She is responsible for all details and finishing touches—if you find a special detail or something you love when you stay at our rental, she is responsible for making it happen. If I’m not available, she will most likely take care of your needs.

Why Karen Lally chose Butler

This property is our dream home! We have camped on Watauga lake for many years, boating by lakefront properties and dreaming big. We have worked hard to make that dream become a reality with this house, and are excited to share it with you! When we found this house we knew we had to own it: it's private, it's gorgeous, and it's right on the lake. Everything we wanted in a Lake house! Watauga is like no other-- warm during the days, cool evenings, no mosquitoes and relatively uninhabited. Boat traffic is minimal during all parts of the day, and the lake is huge!

What makes this chalet unique

Gorgeous Views, easy lake access, private and secluded with no noisy neighbors or shared lake access. The solitude is dreamy.

The interior of the chalet has a lake house get-a-away cabin feel, with tons of wood, a big bright interior with lake views from everyroom, and skylights!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The lakehouse is absolutely amazing. You get the perfect amount of privacy, you're right on a beautiful secluded lake, and the house itself is beautiful and just modern enough. We spent four days there and it was perfect. We were able to swim, hike, kayak, cook dinner, watch Netflix, and more. Lake hideaway chalet has multiple options for every mood. I can't wait to revisit again!

Doesn't get much better than this.

Everything about it was great. The cabin, the view, the decks, the location, the set up...just great. We had everything we needed. There were kayaks and a canoe to use on the lake, which was absolutely beautiful. The owners are very easy to deal with. WELL worth the money!

Stay Here!...or punish yourself elsewhere

  • 5 of 5

We loved Lake Hideaway. We really appreciate you & Kim. Katie & I always spend our vacations rather active - hiking and kayaking- yet I still managed to gain several pounds last week...darn your propane grill and TN beer! We were glad to see you added unlimited data, allowing us to enjoy many movies. Clean property, all needed amenities and best view we have had on a vacation yet. Every year we alternate between the Rockies, the Smokies, & the Ozarks. And the Smokies take the prize! Lake Watauga & Lake Nantahala have been our favorites. Thanks for being pet-friendly...we can never leave Spork & Mr. Jeeves behind.

A lovely quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

Went swimming, hiked, read, went swimming, canoed, went swimming, hiked, ... Perfect vacation for us. Lovely cabin on a cove with deep, clear, cool water. The place is neat as a pin and very comfortable.

Nice late summer vacation. Very peaceful and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

Very quiet location. Warm days and cool nights were a nice change from the Florida heat and humidity. It was plenty warm the week before Labor Day to play in the water but cool enough to comfortably hike all day. We brought our dogs and liked the fencing on the deck for them.

The chalet is very comfortable and the kitchen was stocked well enough for us to cook a few meals in so we could enjoy the lake in the evening rather than go into town to eat. The deck and side yard overlooking the lake are very inviting places to prop up your feet and watch the sun go down. Town was close enough for use to head into Boone to have meals with family that live in the area on a couple of evenings. There are a lot of nice hikes within an hour's drive. We hiked Snake Mountain above Zionville, Grandfather Mountain, Laurel Fork Falls, Roan Mountain, and some of the Appalachian trail from route 321 over to Watauga Dam. We did the short hikes, Laurel Fork Falls and the short AT hike to Watauga Dam, in the morning and then spent those afternoons paddleboarding on the lake.

It will be on our list of places to stay in the future next time our vacation takes us to the southern Appalachians.
