We do our best to provide a truly Maritime experience beginning with a quaint century-old Nova Scotian cottage which was moved to this location eighty-five years ago and settled with it’s back to the forested mountainside and it’s front with windows to the water. It sits quietly apart, without neighbours on either side or behind. The original ‘outhouse’ now holds garden tools and a new garage which compliments the cottage was added a few years ago. A grassy drive goes right up to the cottage but feel free to park or turn on the front law.
Totally renovated, the cottage retains the simple pleasures of clean delicious water from the spring-fed well, the snug warmth of a wood-burning stove and the cooling freshness of an open-window breeze. Other than a radio and cd player, the cottage is without modern technological distractions. To date, most guests have surprisingly enjoyed being incommunicado and relaxed into their ‘unplugged’ state, blithely stress-free and happily tuned into the ‘now’ of being here in this magical place. A home phone is available for making reservations or emergencies.
A new spacious back deck and refreshing outdoor shower and firepit were added to the cottage amenities this spring.
We gladly provide information and recommendations for the usual (restaurants, whale watching or hiking) as well as the unusual (where to get homemade ice cream, attend a lunch and learn, how to cook a lobster or find a dog sitter)
The cottage has been described by guests as a ‘restful nest’ and a ‘homely haven’, ‘unpretentious yet attractive’, ‘pleasantly simple and functional’, ‘immaculately clean and totally equipped’.
The first floor: Great for seniors!
An eat-in kitchen which features the original cottage cupboards, full size refrigerator, an electric stove, a microwave, toaster, blender, mini-grill, coffee maker and an electric kettle. Dishes, glassware, silverware, cooking utensils, tea towels, pots and pans and of course, everything needed to cook, crack and eat lobster. Coffee, tea, sugar, salt & pepper, some spices are stocked in the cupboards.
A bedroom with white wooden walls and a nautical blue floor with a comfortable double bed. The window faces the calm green woods and a scent of mint wafts in from the garden.
A full bathroom has a high-profile toilet as well as a shower with great water pressure from our spring-fed well. We provide lots of towels, a hair dryer, hand soap and shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Also there is a washer and dryer for your use with liquid detergent and dryer sheets under the sink.
In the relaxing room, sink into the couch and enjoy the view of boats bobbing in the Bay or seals popping up. Put your feet up and feel at home. Board games and cards on hand for some good old fashion entertainment. Strike up the compliant wood stove and gaze into the embers as the sun finally says goodnight. You will be warm and toasty in the winter months however an additional heater is in the lower level bathroom as well as baseboard heating in the upstairs bedroom for your comfort.
A storage room off the kitchen is where you will find a cd player, fans, chairs and BBQ utensils. Open the back door to find the Weber Gas BBQ and the herb garden. A screen door allows for cross breezes.
We ask those hoping to bring their dog to please include that information in reservation request. We ask that all dogs be up to date on all needles and flea and tick medication. Owners to take care of their dogs waste.
The second floor: This space seems to be everyone’s favourite!
A bedroom with whitewashed wooden walls and a finished wooden floor makes up the entire space. There is a fantastic new queen bed with a stunning view to the Bay, a small closet and a dresser for storage. Windows on all sides make for great cross breezes and shelves of books invite the reader.
A half bath is tucked under the eaves, complete with towels and a hair dryer.
Just out the front door, the cottage porch beckons. Take a seat in the Shore Road bench built from ‘shore finds’ by my neighbour. It’s a friendly community where motorists wave and walkers will stop and chat. Guests have enjoyed coffee, wine, even meals here. Others have used the porch to meditate, do yoga, write and paint. Gates at both ends of the porch keep dogs secure.
A hammock is snuggled into the trees ready for you to snooze away listening to the stream
Shore access to the Bay is available at the public access down the street. The Bay of Fundy is one of Frommer’s top global destinations with it’s tremendous tides being referred to as the heartbeat of the world. In Parker’s Cove, the tide ranges from 30 feet from low to high but during storms or full moons, 50 feet is possible.
Behind the cottage, walk the trails behind the cottage by following the red arrows which mark the path that runs along the brook to the ‘bench of contemplation’. Even on a hot summer day, you can rest in the quiet coolness by the forest stream.
In the area:
Nova Scotia is a Lonely Planet top pick and the nearby town of Annapolis Royal has won the title of Cultureville of the Maritimes. There are wonderful restaurants in the area and an incredible farmers market on Saturday where you can buy fish and scallops from the Fish Monger, French and German breads, pastries, jams, fresh veg as well as Maritime art and crafts. Live music, artisan demonstrations and impromptu dancing will all add to your experience.
In the cottage, you will find everything you need to cook and crack a succulent lobster in the kitchen or you can leave the lobster cooking to Nautical Seafoods, minutes away at the Parker’s Cove wharf. They offer fresh or cooked to order lobster as well as freshly prepared lunches. You can also purchase world famous Digby scallops - delicious! A few minutes past the wharf in Hillsburn, you will the Crow's Nest Dining, a favourite with locals and has a little convenience store at the back for necessities.

Linda Rice purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Linda Rice chose Annapolis, Subd. A
This property is a "gem" located in Parkers Cove., Nova Scotia In the 70's was once owned by my husbands family. When it came available for sale in the spring of 2016 we couldn't resist purchasing it. Maintaining its unique character with a few additional amenities we are hoping for many visitors who can enjoy and make their own special memories.
What makes this Cottage unique
A perfect day is waking up to a sea view , coming downstairs to the smells of coffee and bacon, snuggling up in the relaxation room to a little fire to take the chill off. Time for my outdoor shower. A Walk to the beach for more seaside treasures and afternoon soaking up the sun on the deck. Evening meal deckside with a nice glass of wine, watch the stars appear while the fire starts to crackle. As the eyes grow tire I retire to the relaxation room for another fire till my body says...time for lights out... another day awaits

Periwinkle Cottage.A perfect retreat!
Welcomed with personal card from Linda.thanks Linda! Periwinkle an adorable Wee Cottage in Parker's Cove on the Bay of Fundy...full of artistry, warmth and a cozy feel! Plenty of wood for wood stove and our fire pit which we enjoyed nightly! A true Nova Scotia touch with all in blue and white ..and multiple touches which we so appreciated from the painting easel/paints... the gorgeous ocean mural in living room and garden.Serenity and calm a very comfortable stay! Our major concern was the front fence for our Goldens it is way too short to be dog friendly safe/and our Golden jumped it in the first hour we were there! Could have been tragic as he was now on a busy highway! Suggest a fence of page wire to meet the height of the gate! We will definitely return if this requirement is met! We had to keep them leashed o n rope and tethers for our 4 night stay. Kindest Regards April and Trevor
Thanks April for the lovely review. We have purchased the wire for a higher fence and greg plans to install first thing in the spring. Cheers Linda
A very peaceful retreat with all the comforts of home
Nice quiet, quirky cottage which is a real home from home. Linda and Greg provide everything from cotton buds to washing machine to make sure your stay is as comfortable as your own home.
The outdoor shower is totally private with a choice of two shower heads. An absolute delight to use.
It is such a shame this property is so far from our home in the UK, otherwise we would be using it again and again. Needless to say we will be recommending it to family and friends who plan to visit this wonderful area.
Thanks Carole. Wish you were closer too. Were here whenever you get back across the pond 😀😀
Loved Periwinkle Cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at Periwinkle Cottage. It has a beautiful view, across from the Bay of Fundy, and is centrally located so we could drive to the many sights we wanted to see. And it was very clean and equipped with everything we needed. My husband especially enjoyed the outdoor shower and I found the hand-knit dishcloths and slippers to be a welcoming, homey touch. I would definitely stay here again.
Hi Dan and Joyce, what a lovely review of our cottage. We so appreciate it. I found those home knitted dish cloths in Digby early this spring and loved them too. I stole the sllpper idea from a hairdresser friend of mine. She had slippers for her clients when they came in to get their hair done. I loved it. We hope you will visit us again soon. Linda & Greg
We enjoyed our stay at Periwinkle Cottage very much. It is a well thought out cute little cottage. Linda was very kind and accommodating and has thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable. We loved the beautiful setting outdoors and especially the way the bed upstairs faces the ocean which is a delight to fall asleep to. Thanks so much again Linda.
Don and Antoinette
Thanks Don and Antoinette. It was certainly our pleasure to host you and so pleased your enjoyed your time at Periwinkle and here in Nova Scotia. Should our salty breezes beacon you or friend our way we would love to host you again. Yours truly. Linda & Greg
A quaint, tiny cottage with many extras and lovely scenery. Close to Annapolis Royal.
Linda and Greg have added many extras that turn this tiny cottage into a lovely holiday spot. Linda kept in touch through our week to see if we needed anything. We especially enjoyed the new outdoor shower and deck. Lovely scenery and handy to Annapolis Royal, loaded with many great spots to explore. Parker Mountain does interfere with technological services (cell, internet,tv) but we did get used to it.
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. Perhaps you will get back our way again and think of us for your accommodations. If you wish to share any of your photos, or doggy photos we would love to have them on our facebook page. To find it (since VRBO will block it) just google Periwinkle Cottage Parkers Cove Nova Scotia ... it should show up in your search.
Safe travels and all the best, Linda & Greg Rice
Waterside paradise with top-notch hosts!
My family and I just returned from a week at the Periwinkle Cottage and the lovely area of Nova Scotia. While we remained active throughout (Cape Split hike, Delaps Cove, Tide Bore rafting, whale watching, graveyard lantern tours, etc.), we were always happy to return to this incredibly inviting cottage. The hosts have gone above and beyond in their hospitality and offer so many quaint amenities for guests that truly make one feel at home. From the firepit and hammock to the fireplace and front porch, there are countless ways to unwind and "disconnect" from the busy world and just take in a breathtaking sunset or cool breeze (or even a relaxing nature walk on the path that winds through the back yard and along a babbling brook). I could go on for pages about our love of this place, but would just rather simply state that if you are considering a trip to Nova Scotia (which you should), there is no better hub to start your adventures than the Periwinkle Cottage! Thanks again for such amazing memories!
Rob you were a dream to work with. Our dream of renting our little piece of NS to those who would enjoy it as much as us has come true. So glad you chose it. Love love seeing the experiences thru your video. 😀😀
