Catherine Hill Bay is in Awabakal Country in the Hunter Valley Region of NSW. It was recently recognised for its outstanding beauty in the book "101 Best Australian Beaches".

The heritage precinct of Catherine Hill Bay consists of less than 150 houses. Torodes was the original cottage hospital in the old town, which has been beautifully restored with all modern conveniences while retaining the retro character of years gone by.

Across the road, the southern end of Catherine Hill Bay beach is patrolled from October to April. Recreational activities include swimming, surfing, fishing and coastal walks. The village is surrounded by National Parks and is a great base for bushwalking and bird watching. The beach across the road is dog friendly for the area north of the creek (which is 90% of the beach).

Torodes is a fantastic base for exploring the Hunter Valley Region, including the expansive waterways of Lake Macquarie (minutes away), the thriving food and arts scene in Newcastle (40 minutes), and the Hunter Valley vineyards (1 hour).

Guests have access to the the full house and yard as described above, including off-street parking for two cars. Rental rates do not include use of the separate Karaabah studio at the rear of the property.

The house is a fantastic location across the road from the beach. It’s a great size for 1-2 families with a yard in the back for small games. The verandah also is a lovely space for lunch. Paul was quick to help and friendly to communicate with. Thanks for all your help during our stay.

Brilliant location & cottage

Torodes is a beautifully renovated cottage which oozes charm. It is extremely well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. It is probably one of the best beach side houses we have ever stayed at. Our dog loved the large back garden & beach directly across the road. We will definitely be back!!

Just beautiful!!!

We had the best stay at Toordes!! Paul was great at communicating with us, the house was well equipped with everything we needed and more. The best were comfy, the shower was great and the view from the upstairs balcony just incredible. Our two doggos joined us at the stay - there was so much space for them in a big doggo friendly yard. They had the best time running around and had fun on the dog friendly beach opposite. Catherine hill is a very special place to us and we hope to be back soon and will defo being stay back at Toorodes if Paul will have us again ❤️

Beautiful house in a great location

I stayed here with a group of friends and we had a wonderful time. The house is located across the road from the beach and within walking distance to the local pub and a small cafe. The accommodation is wonderful! Lots of little pockets to hang out in, comfortable beds and the owners have thought of everything for you so the house is well stocked.

A charming, low key, relaxing break

Torodes is a charming cottage and its location across the road from the beach is perfect. The upstairs sunroom was great for watching the world go by and the downstairs verandah was perfect for drying off between swims. The big back yard and dog friendly beach were brilliant playgrounds for the 4 legged family member. CHB itself is quaint and very low key. The beach is stunning. We loved our stay and will return.

Nice and quiet and directly opposite the beach

A beautiful house and location directly opp the beach - we loved the loft and rooftop balcony (yes, it’s rooftop) overlooking the beach for our sunset drinks. A huge backyard ideal for kids. House was very clean and had everything we needed. We also appreciated the prompt comms with Paul throughout - thanks for sharing with us :-)

Great traditional beach house

We really enjoyed our stay here. Great location opposite the beach although some road noise in the front room. Very well equipped for the holiday maker. Lots of stuff for the kids including boogie boards and surfboards, Netflix and Stan. Great kitchen with lots of little extras for cooks. Awesome verandah and garden with lots of afternoon sun. Would definitely recommend it.

Sunny, charming, beach house bliss

We had a really special time at Torodes. The character of the place, the way it opens up to the garden, the shady and warm wrap around verandah, the light & air which flood the living spaces and the NE facing MBR make it super relaxing and happy. You really don’t have to leave the house to be in a position to absorb the feeling of having escaped. It is tasteful and thoroughly charming in a way that you can’t help but sink into holiday mode. With the patrolled area of the beach being literally a stroll across the road, dozens of walks and numerous golf courses around the area, we had plenty to keep us occupied. We will return again and again to enjoy the bliss of this house.

Fabulous beach escape.

The house has everything you could possibly need to have a wonderful holiday. The position right on the beach was great but it was also very hard to leave the charming house with the most beautiful garden that has so many hidden spots to sit in the sun or cool off with the sea breeze. The top balcony is also a special spot to enjoy watching the world go by and to check out the waves on the beach.

Great location, lovely home with old world charm and modern finishes.

I highly recommend Torodes for a holiday destination, the house is very welcoming and so easy to relax in. Kitchen is great with all modern amenities, bedrooms are a good size with super comfy beds and lux linen. The verandah areas are fantastic and so is the fenced in garden. Then to top it off the beach is just across the road. Paul was excellent with his communication and very accommodating. We will be back, many thanks Paul
