THE PROPERTY Still Windy is situated on a 100 Ha bush block with large stands of remnant vegetation including sugar gum woodlands and yacca grasslands. White Tree Creek meanders through the middle of the property and provides a delightful guide to follow for bush walks or secluded picnics. Native wildlife abounds on the property and it is common to see kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, wedge-tailed eagles and goannas. The more dedicated nature lover may also see stone curlews, pygmy possums, boobook owls and glossy-black cockatoos. In Spring time there are abundant wildflowers and native orchids throughout the valley. There are at least two nesting Glossy-black cockatoos on the property and we have an ongoing re-vegetation program designed to provide shelter and forage trees for these critically endangered birds.
At nearby Snelling Beach you may see dolphins, sea eagles, hooded plovers and the occasional fur seal.
If you'd like to help us keep track of local rainfall you can read the rain gauge and enter it into the Visitor book.
DOG FRIENDLY CONDITIONS OF STAY Dogs are very welcome at Still Windy, both outside and inside the house, and there are a few things for guests to note. We charge an extra $25 per stay for guests bringing dogs. The house and the property are not fenced in a way that will prevent dogs from running away or travelling onto other properties and our neighbours with chickens or livestock will not appreciate a visit from an unknown dog. It is therefore the responsibility of the guest to ensure the safety and well being of their dog at all times and for the dog to always be under effective control. Dogs must be left outside if guests leave the property without them and a shaded enclosure is provided which may be easily moved around to a suitable location. Guests are welcome to walk their dogs anywhere within the property boundaries but need to be aware they may encounter snakes or large kangaroos. Kangaroo Island Council requires dogs to be on leads at all times when on the beach. When inside the house dogs must remain at floor level at all times. Please bring dog bedding but note that bowls for food and water are supplied. We appreciate your cooperation and welcome you and your best friend to Still Windy.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS The north coast is more sheltered than the south and provides ample opportunities for water-based activities like swimming, surfing, snorkelling, diving, beach-walking and fishing in the local marine parks. Still Windy is also the perfect base for exploring the iconic Flinders Chase National Park and the Seal Bay Conservation Park.

Fabulous spot close to Snelling Beach and the Fig Tree where we enjoyed a long degustation lunch under an enormous fig tree (book well in advance if you want to eat there). Still Windy is well appointed for a comfortable couples stay and the complimentary wine was a nice additional touch. Friendly kangaroos around us in the morning and evening. I swear, one even waved at us! Great communication with Robyn checking our safe arrival. Will be letting our friends know of this hidden gem.
We loved our short stay at “still windy”.
Very peaceful surroundings yet close to all the attractions we wanted to see.
The accommodation is gorgeous- well planned and super comfortable. Hope we can come back again sometime.
Absolutely loved our stay at Still Windy Would highly recommend it.Fantastic views and very nicely appointed property. The wood fire kept us cosy and warm.
The house was comfortable with plenty of natural light... the house is on a property a short drive off the road ... very quiet and peaceful . We were visited by lots of magpies ( around 30 in the paddock) On our last night we had a very special visitor ... a koala that walked past the cloth line and up into the gum tree for a snack
We loved our time at Still Windy which had everything we needed for a truly relaxing holiday away from it all. As the property sits within 100 hectares of beautiful bush land, it was the perfect place to walk around and we enjoyed our evening walks spotting the abundant wildlife.
You go looking for something and open a drawer and it’s there, everything you needed was there, and was quality, clean and worked; from WiFi, BBQ to coffee machine. This made us feel pampered. The house had terrific views over a huge expanse of country to the sea. Being down a long driveway felt very quiet and private. Felt a tremendous sense of peace during our five night stay. Perfectly located halfway down the island, for an easy drive in every direction. Highly recommended.
Still Windy is amazing. Secluded, spacious and close to Snellings Beach (one of KI’s best beaches!). There is everything you need, even a coffee machine! Very relaxing.
Lovely getaway for a couple. Warm and cosy. Great view of countryside and the ocean in the distance. Quiet and peaceful. Clean with accents on ecofriendly.
We felt really at home here at ‘still windy’. Even though it was a rainy day we enjoyed the views, the peace and the luxury. We saw kangaroos, sheep, different birds and an echidna in the garden and even koalas at Middle River.
The property is perfect for a KI getaway. Superbly appointed with everything you might need and more. Every need catered for. Spotlessly clean. Beautiful views from every room.
Still windy was absolutely perfect for us and our young pup. Set a top a hill with a view to the north we enjoyed all the weather types as they rolled in and not very windy at all!! It was so nice to come back to a house that was naturally heated from the north but have all the comforts at one’s fingertips to make it even more snug. Everything was good quality and provided for us to make the stay easy and most enjoyable. A beautiful property and lovely Snelling beach only five minutes away.
"Still Windy" promised and delivered. Serene, luxurious, tranquil and situated in the perfect location to explore this mesmerizing island.
Designed as a couple's retreat "Still Windy" is also ideal for solo travelers, I always felt safe during my stay.
Thanks so much for having me!
I'll be back (with my best Austrian Accent)
We really enjoyed the quiet and isolation of StillWindy after hectic time at WOMAD. The house is very comfortable and well equipped with little touches like a handtowel in the kitchen, beach towels, great wok, comfy chairs and bed all adding up to a great stay. Snellings Beach five minutes down the road was lovely for swims. Need to be prepared to come equipped with food etc as is a fair drive to any shops. ...but we were and it was great. Highly recommend.
A beautiful home with everything you need set in KI Bushland. So relaxing and peaceful. Lots of birds and kangaroos. Hop up early and watch the amazing sunrise from your front deck! Watch the many kangaroos hop past. The house neighbours the most lovely native forest which I visited a few times during my stay. The house has a heater that kept us warm on very cold nights. and the electric blankets worked a treat.
Appreciated the location, size, outlook, design, amenities as all very nice. All 4 star …. The shower grouting could also use a thorough scrub! However, in communication with the owner/proprietor/host (not present) incredibly surprised to read that their priorities are with “self and staff”, and not the paying customer. Specifically, upon requesting a reasonable 30/60minute late checkout was advised that they “manage the property in the way that works best for us and our staff”. No mention of guests???This was terribly surprising given that we checked availability and found the property was not even booked for that night!
We loved our three night stay. It was fabulous to have such a panoramic view over the hills to the sea. We could watch Eagles circling below us. Had a lovely time with a pair of Glossy Black Cockatoos that fed in the Sheoaks. Congratulations on your conservation work. We saw three Cockatoos flying at one stage.
Loved the well appointed kitchen which was a real blessing as you have to prepare each meal because of distance. Thanks for the delicious bottle of sparkling red
which we enjoyed on the decking while admiring the view.
It was great to go to bed with no blinds drawn and wake at dawn. We loved the tranquility. A memorable experience.
Tammar wallabies come in at night and it's lovely to see wildlife like echidna, kangaroos and even a very long Tiger Snake!

beautiful spot
We picked this property due to the fact it is dog friendly, and the location on the island, loving the North coast area.
The house was in a great spot with beautiful views across paddocks to the ocean. Lots of bushland to walk through, with kangaroos, wallabies and possums all over the place! Pair of binoculars provided got a lot of use.
Inside was nice and clean with a fantastic comfy king size bed with electric blankets, and the shower was great with plenty of pressure. Good kitchen area with a large pantry and the dishwasher was handy. Quality teas and coffee pod machine. The décor throughout was lovely.
The only negative things I would say would be the lack of curtains on some windows (especially the bathroom, very odd!), and the ugly carport full of junk which is the first thing you see as you approach the house.
But overall, a beautiful, quiet place to relax.

Dear guests, To maximise the daytime views, there are no curtains on any of the Still Windy windows. There are see through blinds on the two east-facing windows in the living area and blinds on all windows plus the sliding door in the bedroom. The bathroom windows are very small and we do intend to frost them. The carport was built specifically to support the solar panels as the existing shed roof was not big enough or the optimal angle for them. Under it we store neatly stacked building and future renovation materials as well as a farm ute and a tinny.
Loved your haven that you have created with all the windows to catch glimpses of the wallabies and their young around the property . Loved the walks down to near the dams - wished we had stayed an extra night. Very comfortable - Thankyou Anne and Bruce - Sydney
