Overview

About the property

Cool Water Retreat is a dedicated vacation rental with good wifi and access to river that sleeps 12 people located directly on the banks of the famous White River. It is located on a paved road approximately 15 minutes from most area attractions and shopping.

NOTABLE:

*cell signals iffy depending on carrier and location at the cabin . Wifi calling and texting now available on newer model smart phones. Needs to be activated in advance. Also plenty of apps on the market that can keep you connected via wifi. There is a landline for local calls.

*there is a short line railroad a couple of hundred yards from the cabin. Its lonesome whistle will indeed blow on occasion. Not usually overnight though.

*steep steps to access the second level.

THE SPACE AND ACCESS:

Guests have access to cabin and all amenities including stocked kitchen and W/D, wifi and 2 internet streaming TVs + cable, new stereo system for you to bluetooth, river frontage with step access (from Kay's next door), bonfire area, grill and starlight that will melt you. On main level there is 1 king, 1 full and 1 twin bed (each in separate rooms); upstairs - also in separate rooms- 1 queen, 1 queen, 3 twins. The cool breezes the river lets off around dusk comes standard. There is no dishwasher or ice maker as of this posting 9/11/16.

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:

This is the cabin of my long time friends, The Garlands. I've been living in this area for 10 years. My hospitality hobby is now my profession. I will manage the booking of your stay and insure you have all questions answered and are a satisfied and returning guest! I'm in touch by text, phone and email before during and after your stay. There is a kindly neighbor, Kay, who handles the cleaning and such. She might welcome you with a hug if your paths cross. I can help make intros to local musicians, outdoors folks and artisans if you ask. Most likely you'll never see me.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

Cool Water is a fantastic enclave - end of road and saddled along the river with almost no development on opposite side of bank. You may see folks touring about on their 'buggies' at dusk waving and just being neighborly. There are full time residents and part-timers. About a mile away are several public boat launches. Also you are within arms reach of Angler's White River Resort (the only restaurant in the county with an alcohol permit -accompanied by great scenic dining. It'll be hopping on the weekends)

Upon booking confirmation you will receive an area guide and recommendations from myself and some pals. This will also include more details about the immediate environs. Directions. keyed access. trash. etc.

HOUSE RULES:

Smoking; Absolutely positively no smoking inside or allowing smoke to enter cabin via doors, windows or fabrics. A $150 damage fee will be sought if cigarette smoke is detected in cabin. Butts must be placed in outdoor receptacle and taken off property on your departure.

Upon departure: leave rental basically as you found it; swept, dishes clean.

About Virginia Ivy

Former City Mouse that has been living on Sylamore Creek for last 9 years. This creek is my touchstone. I'm a river rat - or otter as the case may be; when not working am mostly on the buffalo river or the springs and creeks in this county 3 seasons out of the year.

The greatest guests I could ever imagine have walked through these doors.

I think I have visited over 30 countries and have always enjoyed staying in private homes - as long as I can remember.. When I return from trips now, I have a sense that I am still on vacation. This is such an extra-ordinary place with so many talented people and so much natural beauty. This place still has a feel that it is off the map.

I treasure witnessing the stress drip away from people just arrived from the rat race.

I recently left corporate life and am focusing solely on vacation rentals now because I love sharing this area with others more than anything. Am a realtor with Garland Co Real Estate - can find my contact there on the Arkansas tab.

Wonderful time had by all!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a terrific time here! The cabin was supplied amply and then some!! It was decorated very nicely and comfortably. And although there were only four of us, it would have easily accommodated more.

The river was too high for our kind of fishing, but we had a blast anyway.

We enjoyed the evenings on the porch with the fog rising off the river. We went to nearby Blanchard Springs and Gunner Pool to swim and cool off in the 90+ temps. We cooked fabulous meals in the well stocked kitchen and had a nice meal at nearby Anglers Resort.

We saw lots of wildlife, does with spotted baby deers, wild turkeys, butterflies, hummingbirds. Had a running bet on the bunnies we would see (never did see the white one with the top hat!).

We will definitely be back!!!

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and enjoyed every day we stayed. There is plenty to do in the area in short driving distance. Our group went horseback riding, zip line, cavern tour, and of course swimming and trout fishing. Very quiet and peaceful location. Large cabin that the pics don't do it justice. We were surprised at how much room we had. Well stocked kitchen and large porch was great to hangout and visit during our stay. We will definitely be back. There's more to do and see in the area than what you have time for in one trip.

We stayed a week and had such an awesome time. We fished a little but mostly just relaxed and enjoyed the scenery. The neighbors were friendly and the location was perfect. We will definitely be back! Thank you Emily and Virginia!

Nice cabin, had a great time

  • 4 of 5

Stayed the weekend with several moms and our kids, in total, 13 people. There was plenty of room, the cabin was great, and scenery was beautiful. I would have given it 5 stars except, we had to transport our trash to the nearby town, about a 10mn drive...thought that was gross. Would like to have known that at the time of booking, maybe wouldn't have grossed out had we been prepared for it.

But really, I don't think we should've been responsible for putting our trash in our vehicles and locating the specific place in town where we were supposed to take the bags.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the candid feedback and allowing us the opportunity to better our operations. Rural trash removal is problematic. We pay for easy access dumpster fees right in the town center where we figure most folks are passing through. But your point is well taken. I will talk with the owners about what other options there are.
