Quaint and cozy for a weekend away
I rented this property with my family of 5 for a recent ski weekend at Schuss and we were very pleased with it. Close to everything on the property but quite secluded and private feeling despite that, and nicely decorated with an 'up north' flair. I'd wouldn't hesitate to rent it again.
Perfect place for weekend ski trip!
The cabin is beautiful and comfortable. Accommodated our group of 6 easily. Very close to Schuss Mtn and downtown Belleaire. The host was great to work with and left a nice bottle of wine for us as well as his pool pass for the resort. He personally called us prior to the trip to provide directions and information, which was a first in all of the rentals we’ve done. No WiFi but we got by without it. Would definitely return. Also if in the area be sure to check out the wine bar Hello Vino in downtown Bellaire.
This was a perfect getaway cabin. Very clean and beautiful inside and all amenities you need to feel at home! Kids loved the arcade game which brought me back to my childhood, nice to see kids enjoy old technology like we used to😂. Quiet and peaceful setting close to shuss mtn. Definitely will stay again!
Very well kept, presentation was great. Everything they said it was.
We enjoyes our stay very much, it felt rustic but had all the amenities of home and was close to local resturants and activities.
Charming log cabin
The cabin was very clean and convenient for a few days of skiing at Schuss! The owner was very easy to work. We hope to return for another winter weekend. Thanks John!
Big Porch, Cabin Living
We stayed over a long weekend at the Log Cabin which was cozy and comfortable. The cabin is inside the Shanty Creek Resort with all amenities provided including kitchen utensils, extra linens, and entertainment (games & DVDs). We cooked many meals indoors and it was great to not have to worry about bringing pots, pans, dishes, silverware, even a strainer! Everything was all inclusive, even details that we had forgotten about in our excitement to arrive. The bottle of wine was a nice touch and the toast to start our relaxation celebration.
We were able to experience the very last day of fall and right into winter with temperatures being in the upper 30's. Perfect weather to snuggle close in the living room with the propane fireplace going in the corner. This location is central if you are interested in traveling to Traverse City, MI (~1-hour away) or right down the street to Short's Brewing Co. (~10 minutes away).
During twilight is when we saw turkey and families of deer. The swirl of the wind could be heard for miles before the wind actually brushed your face, very cool!
It was cold at night with temperatures dipping into the low 30's and upper 20's. We stayed in the snug cabin which has propane heat and additional electronic heaters if it gets too cold upstairs, although the propane heat was plenty enough to provide a sufficient temperature to keep the chill out. There was a normal amount of light pollution (similar to being in a suburb sky gazing) due to a lighthouse being nearby--you could see the spin of the light flash around--and the resort lighting up the mountain. You can hear the low whine of the resort pumping snow at all times of the day and night.
John was very kind and welcomed us into his cabin from afar. There was a lock box to obtain the key and John called a few days before to ensure we were set up for success. Having little contact with John and no contact with the few neighbors that were across the way--most likely because the neighbors were currently not vacationing--made the cabin feel secluded.
Overall, a great trip and we plan to visit again soon, possibly next year.
Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience at the cabin. A great experience is all we want for our guests and you have just given others who read this an honest and descriptive outline of how to appreciate northern Michigan !
