About this property
Updated 6BR ski-in/ski-out mountain modern chalet with new hot tub
The ultimate mountain-modern chalet, tucked away in a pine and aspen forest with ski-in/ski-out access on Sundance. Newly renovated, modern luxurious finishes only compliment nature’s breathtaking beauty visible through a massive window wall. The open-concept living space is comfortable for large groups complete with a chef's kitchen and anchored by a strong stone & steel fireplace. Two decks merge seamlessly to the outdoors and feature a gas grill and a brand new 7 person hot tub.
Perfect for groups or families - this rental includes a unique 2 house setup. Guests will have access to both units. The main house features 5 bedrooms and 4 baths. A separate studio apartment sits above the garage and comes complete with a king bed, bath, kitchen and living room.
Incredible location - Only 1.5 miles away from the Mountain Village Core, where you’ll find shopping, dining along with the free Gondola that links directly to Telluride. Park your cars in the 2-car heated garage or 2 driveway spots and never drive using Mountain Village’s free Dial-a-Ride. Ski-in using the Prospect ski trail and ski out with a short 0.1mile walk to the Sundance ski trail.
Main House:
Renovated in Nov 2020. The main house has three levels and features two walk out decks plus a hot tub. New solid wide plank Hickory flooring is used throughout.
Enjoy the company of friends and family in the great room with a massive stone and steel fireplace framed by log beams. Its open floor plan allows for everyone to be part of the action or duck into a cozy reading nook perfect for a book and an Irish coffee. The remodeled chef’s kitchen features high end Viking, Bosch, Sub-Zero appliances, Calcutta marble backsplash and a breakfast bar for four. The marble dining room table can seat 10. After dinner send the kids downstairs to the den while the adults enjoy the great room. In the morning, enjoy the views of nature from the window wall, or slide the window open to extend the great room onto the deck. The deck features a gas BBQ grill.
The main level also features one bedroom with a king bed with great views of the pine forest. The bathroom has been refreshed and a 5 person ski locker completes the main floor.
The entire upper level is the private Master’s quarters, complete with an en-suite bathroom. After a long day of skiing, enjoy soaking in your private jacuzzi tub for two or enjoy your own steam shower. The king bed has a new Casper hybrid mattress, new bedding and a walk in closet. Enjoy the morning snow reports first hand with a private balcony peaking at Gold Hill.
The completely renovated lower level has 3 bedrooms, an office, and laundry. The den is a perfect retreat. Escape from the action in the upstairs great room with your own wine/beverage bar and enjoy the game on a 77” OLED TV with Dolby Atmos surround sound. When it’s time for bed, sleep soundly on a pull-down Murphy bed that features a queen bed and new mattress. Also on the lower level a second bedroom has a queen size bed and a private en-suite bathroom. A kids bunk room with 2 new twin mattresses and 4 new twin XL beds are in the final bedroom. The laundry facilities feature a new 4.1cu. ft LG washer and dryer. Finally, stay in-touch with a home office. The home office features a computer monitor, a printer and dedicated ethernet connections to plug in your laptop. Watch deer roam through the adjacent meadow as your Zoom call drags on. Or take a work break and enjoy Foosball and a classic Arcade console featuring Pac-Man and Astroids.
The family fun continues with the house stocked for entertainment. In the evenings, enjoy board games; some for kids some for adults. In the summers, enjoys rafting the San Miguel with 3 provided rafts (and life jackets). Or head to Trout Lake and enjoy 3 provided Stand-Up Paddle boards. Taking in the summer festivals and concerts, with 3 fold-up festival chairs. Frisbees provided for frisbee golf which is in walking distance. Ladder toss for the driveway!
Guest House:
Invite your in-laws, a caretaker, or another couple to join your family in the mountains. The Guest House is separate from the main house and features a private 500 sq ft. of living space. It’s an open floor plan with a king bed, kitchen and living room. The living room features a soft comfy sectional and smart TV. A full bathroom is located off the kitchen.

About the host
Hosted by Joe Venable

We are a family of 5 who loves to travel. My wife and I have been to over 40 countries and most of the States. With 3 kids and we've enjoyed summer vacations visiting our nation parks. In the winter - we ski! We are always looking for the next adventure. Arches and Canyonlands are favorites for our kids as its a short trip from Telluride.
Why they chose this property
Our mountain modern chalet was a project that took vision and a lot of hard work. In terms of the intangibles for us - It had the perfect location for us. It was close to the action yet not on top of it. It had ski-in access. It had all the convenience of Mountain Village. It had good bones - it was built using massive sized log beams which are much larger in diameter then others in the neighborhood. It was also big enough for hosting several families.
However, when we bought the house it perhaps could be called a cozy log cabin stuck in time. We embarked on a huge remodel which entailed gutting the main house. We added a new Great Room with new windows, new fireplace, and new kitchen. Bedrooms were added or expanded. New bathrooms were added. A new mudroom was added. New floors and new radiant heat was put-in. As we began construction, the pandemic hit. Construction was halted several times due to the pandemic. 2020 was truly a year to forget for the history books.
The remodel allowed it to be functional for us. It allows us to host multiple families for weeks of fun in the mountains. It a perfect size, big enough to host multiple families but not a silly-huge where it becomes a waste. The interior and furniture is new and has a modern aesthetic to it while still playing homage to its log roots. Being a tech geek, the technology was all refreshed and new wiring installed everywhere. With the pandemic raging, it was put to the test where we worked remotely for several months and days full of Zoom calls from the mountains.
In the end, the question is always asked - would you do a remodel again or build new? Its a tough question to answer. The result came out great and feels comfortable and modern - those words aren't often in the same sentence.

What makes this property unique
Their are a couple of obvious unique benefits. The house was gutted and renovated completed in Nov 2020, which means new and clean! All of the bedding was changed, most of the furniture and mattress are new. Most of the appliances are new. The tech and TVs are new. The double house setup in incredibly versatile when it comes to groups and multiple families. Most all of the 6BR houses in Mountain Village are ~10,000 sq ft with rental prices to match, this is unique in that its a very livable and approachable size. Many of our spaces are built to flex. Our downstairs den is a perfect example. It can be a TV getaway for the kids when the adults are upstairs. It can be a guy's getaway to watch the big game and enjoy a drink from the bar. It can be a sleeping bedroom when a 6BR is desired without sacrificing comfort. No pull-out couches here! It has a Murphy bed with a mattress quality found in all the other bedrooms.
However, their are some less-than-obvious benefits we've only discovered after living there for some time. Its one of the few houses that have both ski-in access as well as bike-in/bike-out access in the summer. Yep, we bike out to "Tommy-Knocker", which is one of the only green bike trails. Most houses with ski access do not have bike out access. The hiking in the summer has also surprised us. Their are plenty of trails our kids can do right from the back door, yet their are also 15 mile strenuous hiked that can be undertaken if that suites your taste. If interested, I'd be happen to give you all the little gems we've uncovered. I'm also available for any help with your trip of recommendations you need for your stay.
