About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom Timeless & Classic Log Cabin

Come enjoy a mountain sanctuary at Wood's End. Located at the end of a quiet road on private, wooded mountain acreage with beautiful long-range mountain views, and surrounded by miles of walking and hiking trails; Wood's End is a classic-style Log Cabin which has been lovingly and painstakingly remodeled inside from top to bottom.

The original square log walls and wide-plank wood floors have been brought back to their original glory, yet the Kitchen has been outfitted with new Stainless appliances and Granite countertops. The bathrooms have also been completely redone with granite vanities and oversized ceramic tile floors, vaulted ceilings with hardwood accents and heat lights, fully-tiled tub and shower settings. The Living Room features its original stone wood-burning fireplace with a beautiful hearth and mantle, new living furniture and a large wall-mounted Flat Panel HDTV with Surround Sound and BluRay player. The Dining area features a table which can seat up to 8 people. Enjoy Central Air Conditioning during warmer summer days.

The Master Bedroom is on the main floor with a Queen bed, wall-mounted flat screen HDTV with digital cable programming and Netflix capability. It has a full bathroom with an large tiled shower and granite top vanity.

The Second floor features two additional bedrooms - one with a Queen bed and the other with a Queen and a Twin bed. Both bedrooms have large closets and share a full bath with tile floors, a granite vanity, vaulted ceiling, with a tub/shower fully-enclosed in beautiful tile work.

The outside living space includes a 2-tier deck; a covered front porch with an open-air grilling area, and a step down onto a beautiful open-air deck with a large outdoor dining table and chairs. Walk down the stone path to the impressive Fire Pit which is enclosed in a large pea gravel field with chairs and benches. There is a covered back porch with a nice flat mulched area behind the cabin for outdoor games like Badminton, Corn hole, Lawn bowling, Horseshoes, etc (not provided), or enjoy a lunch on the picnic table in the shade of the cabin.

Venture away from the cabin among acres and acres of wooded mountainside acreage lined with walking and hiking trails, hidden places with benched seating - the Watauga River is even within walking distance of the cabin (1 mile walk or 1/2 mile drive) for cooling off with a quick dip, or trying your hand at fishing for mountain trout which run through the Watauga River.

Although is feels like you are out on a mountain in the middle of nowhere, you are actually only 12 miles to Downtown Boone, or only 5 miles to the Tennessee line, then another 5 miles or so to the eastern part of the Watauga Lake.

Why Cynthia and Olen Wood chose Sugar Grove

Our cabin was built by our late parents in 1977. At the time we lived in a small town, Stedman, N.C., where Mom and Dad were school administrators. Whenever possible they would travel to the High Country for vacation and like many folks, they fell in love with the beautiful landscapes and heartwarming hospitality of the local people.

It was a dream fulfilled when they were able to purchase 5 acres on this mountain and build their log cabin home. Rebecca and Woody created many wonderful memories for themselves, their children and grandchildren. The years have passed and though Mom and Dad are no longer here with us, our log cabin in the High Country still remains a place for continued wonderful memories to be created.

We have renovated several things within the cabin, but also have tried to maintain much of its authenticity. We are pleased to share this special place and hope your stay here will be a wonderful memory for you and your family too.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Wood family,

Thank you for sharing your home with us. We loved our stay with your beautiful cabin. We have two older children who graduated at APP State and the other is in her last year. We took this week with our 2 sons who loved the views and tubing and white water rafting. We had wonderful family time before our baby leaves for college at UNCP.

Thank you again

A Perfect Retreat!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to "Wood's End" and so we were a little apprehensive about what we would find upon arrival. We were so thrilled to find that this beautiful property was exactly what we were hoping for. A lovely, cozy and well appointed cabin surrounded by gorgeous views! I can't think of a thing we would change. The fire pit was our favorite part of the property, but we loved everything about this get away. I love how the owners kept the original cabin but have totally updated with all conveniences. Close to town, yet secluded at the same time. My only regret is that we had to leave so quickly, but we will definitely return!

Cozy Getaway

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a few days away at Wood's End. It's a very cozy and private cabin that served us well as we explored nearby Boone and Blowing Rock. Cynthia and Olen were very responsive to our questions and the cabin was well equipped and comfortable.

Beautiful Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was a great mountain escape for the group we had. It’s a beautiful house with everything you need for a wonderful vacation. It’s very secluded, so we could see so many more stars than we can see in our city. It was great to reconnect with nature!

Owner's Response: Thanks Hannah for taking a minute to post your comments. We love hearing our guest experiences and we know that future guests value them a lot. Olen and I were star gazing last night and although it was a beautiful night, it wasn’t near the sky you get at the cabin! Very happy you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to having you back again. Cynthia and Olen

Rustic charm with many updates

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed over the 4th of July holiday, and we absolutely enjoyed your cabin. Granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, a wonderful master bath, and great mountain views all add to the charm. We had a great time at Blowing Rock, and we also enjoyed walking through the towns of Boone and Blowing Rock where we dined at several of the local spots. This is certainly a five star property.
