About Mary Beth Tanner

We built this little cabin ourselves, with help from a few of our friends. We lived here until 2006 when we outgrew it. We have built a larger cabin that shares 2 acres with the rental cabin. We live there with our family, so we are close by if you need anything. We love our woods and the town of Black Mountain!

We loved our stay - the cabin was nestled nicely in the woods and very well kept. Great location close to Black Mountain too!

Everything but the Kitchen Sink

  • 4 of 5

Secluded in the mountains yet within reach if there was an emergency. Cabin had basically anything you would need kitchen wise besides major spices. Would have love to have a fire every night but had a hard time finding fire wood besides small branches from the forest, everything was too wet (tractor supply if your looking). The grill was a great touch as well. The only complaint with the cabin was that the beds were worn and uncomfortable, especially if you have back issues like i do. We also needed more toilet paper we didn't even have 2 full rolls for an entire week, so we went out and bought our own. Besides those two downsides this cabin was great. Also pet friendly which was awesome our girls loved playing in the creek and hiking around, Just watch out for ticks, we removed nearly 15 after one adventure.

Charming Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a quiet weekend in this CLEAN 1 bedroom cabin. Not far from all Black Mountain has to offer. You'll enjoy your stay, no doubt! Nice little deck of the back of the house to enjoy your early morning coffee or glass of wine in the evening. There is an outdoor grill for your use. AC in the bedroom only, windows open in the rest of the house it worked for us.

Heaven , Peaceful , So relaxing !!!

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was very charming , clean and everthing we needed was there . The setting was perfect for getting in some much needed nature and fresh mountain air . Warm , Relaxing and Enchanting inside and out . The owners are sweet , willing to go extra mile for you . Would Love to return again and again . Our nature Loving Family Highly recommends this little piece of Heaven . Blue Ridge Parkway , Black Mountain , Montreat , Asheville , Endless hiking trails all right there and we cant wait to be back exploring the endless adventures still awaiting . If you want to get away from it all , this is it ! Dont forget your sunglasses or anything when you leave its quite an adventure ride up to and back down to town from this Cabin. 31/2 miles of switchbacks, very winding road and then another 8/10 mile straight up a gravel , dirt road. Adventure and Nature at its best , we loved our stay !!! Beautiful area !!!

Just what we needed

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was exactly what we needed. We were in town for a wedding, and really just needed a place to sleep, that would allow us to have our mini schnauzer with us. The cabin is so far from the hustle and bustle, it was very peaceful and nice not to hear traffic in the distance. If I'm giving a completely transparent, honest review, I have to mention that if you book this cabin and plan to arrive after dark, beware, especially if you are used to the city. Once you turn off the main road, you will need to take it nice and slow. The roads are typical, country roads, with some gravel added. When we drove on them, they had the deepest wash-board ruts I've ever seen lol Plus as you get closer to the cabin, choose your path carefully, it's uneven and has some deep spots. We were driving a mid-size car and had no trouble. The other thing that I wanted to mention was that on Saturday morning when we are first waking up, and walking out to the back desk for a cup of coffee, we were greeted by a dog, that heard us and took off running to greet us. Mind you, the dog turned out to be friendly, but that was a little daunting for a loose dog to be running toward you, with my dog on a leash. It turned out to be fine, but in a new place and not knowing the animal, and uncertain of the interaction he would have with my much smaller dog, it was a little un-nerving for a few minutes.Someone in the distance called the dog and he ran back to them. I'm guessing it was the cabin owner's dog, who live very near the cabin but because of wooded area was not visible.

All in all a good experience. Very basic place to stay, with essentials. The AC worked great, especially considering it was a window unit in the bedroom. Thanks for sharing your cabin.

Owner's Response: Hi Karen- Thank you for choosing our cabin for your vacation. I apologize for the dog- he belongs to my brother, who was visiting from out of town. Our dog does not usually approach renters. Sorry for the condition of the road. Unfortunately, the dry weather makes it hard to keep the road nice. Glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for writing a review. Hope to hear from you again, Mary Beth
