Whetstone Retreat, a relaxing home & garden, perfect for longer stays!

The Whetstone Retreat is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with a gourmet kitchen. The back patio & backyard are very beautiful, cool & relaxing with a lovely water fountain and 3 different seating areas. This home is exceptionally peaceful & relaxing. It is located in a very quiet community in Whetstone with easy access to all of Southeast Arizona: Kartchner Caverns State Park, Tombstone, Bisbee, Coronado and Chiricahua National Monuments, Sierra Vista and Historic Fort Huachuca, great birding, hiking, and sight-seeing throughout the region including Ramsey Canyon Nature Preserve. Also many excellent wineries nearby in Elgin/Sonoita. Some people are aware that across the border in Naco, Mexico there are some excellent dentists. Ask us for details.

Excellent Choice

My husband and I spent a month enjoying this lovely home. You’ll be treated to all the comforts of home in this well furnished place. The 3 bedrooms have comfortable beds and the living room, dining room and kitchen are spacious. The kitchen has enough dishes and cookware for a family. The back yard has covered and open air dining areas and a covered seating area. The quail, cardinals, humming birds on the property delighted us. SE AZ offers a new amazing natural area to explore every day. The B & B owners live near by and responded immediately to any requests and were glad to share info on the area.

Great location for exploring.

My husband and I stayed at Whetstone Retreat for 13 days and it was wonderful! We were close to trails and bird watching sites, which is what we came for. Valley and Steve were very gracious hosts who tried to anticipate our every need and made us feel at home. We would definitely go back! G & V Carrozzino Ontario, Canada

A Haven

This was the 2nd time staying in this home. It is such a haven. We went looking for a relaxing place, a place where we could rejuvenate and that is precisely what we found. This time, we also enjoyed visiting with the owners and came away feeling like we had made new friends. What could be better than that?

Great for family time

This property is beautiful, with the backyard setting, patio furniture, and the pergola. There is lots of space outside. There is lots of space inside. The furniture is comfortable, and clean. Beds are comfortable as well. Valley has thought of everything you need in a place away from home. We were able to cook and relax with the ease of items available in the kitchen. This was our second stay at this property. It is a nice stay away from home.

Arizona getaway

This property was an amazing surprise ! It was quiet, restful, and an absolute haven with all the amenities and a few added surprises!… like the birds that frequent the backyard, the the gurgling water fountain, the gathering places and the outdoor living space. Add to that the access to nearby attractions and shopping and you have a WINNER!!

Comfort in the desert

Valley’s house, located in a subdivision off the main highway, provides comfortable accommodations for anyone wanting to explore the surrounding desert, canyons, and mountains. The spacious yard and feeders host numerous species of birds and desert cottontail rabbits. With three bedrooms and two baths, this house is more than ample for a couple or small family/group.

Beautiful place

Any appliance you might need to cook a meal, beautifully decorated. Convenient to attractions, restaurants close by open was a problem, closed Tuesday and Wednesday lots of tourist information

Quiet and clean

We really enjoyed our stay in Whetstone. We were wine tasting in Sonoita and it is a short 15 minutes drive to Whetstone. The house was great and affordable. We would stay again when traveling to Sonoita.

An Oasis

This property is an oasis. It sits in a quiet neighborhood with a surprisingly green and colorful back yard that birders will love. My husband counted 23 species the first afternoon as we sat on the patio! If you have a family group, there are plenty of places to gather in the backyard to chat, play board games (which are provided in the house) or eat meals. The mattresses in the three bedrooms are comfortable and there are roomy closets. The kitchen has every pan or appliance you need to make meals. The dining room offers a coffee/tea bar. The garage has been turned into a laundry room with tiled floor. We spent a month here and hope we can return next year. Steve and Valley are wonderful hosts and very kind people.

Attention to detail, Home away from home

We were in the area for a family funeral. Bringing family together from different parts of the country. House was clean, spacious, and Valley has thought of little details and had what we needed for our stay. Beds comfy, beautiful backyard for relaxing and enjoying the evening. Will happily stay here again.

Weekend Escape

The hostess was pleasant and provided a beautiful place to stay. Outdoor space is fantastic, many beautiful birds to watch and listen to, the quail were great to watch and hearing the coyotes in the distance was melodious. All comforts of home, nice neighborhood to go for a walk. Highly recommend.

A great base for birders.

Whetstone Retreat was just what we had hoped it would be - a very convenient base for birding. The house is very pleasant and comfortable; easy for living, dining and relaxing both inside and outside. The well equipped kitchen is wonderful. We also really appreciated having the luggage racks, plenty of clothes hangers and hair dryers for our use. Valley Tyminski was very easy to arrange details with. We would definitely enjoy another stay at Whetstone Retreat.

Nice place.

Clean and well provisioned inside. Needs a door on master bath, but all else is nicely done. Host made accomodation for parking motorcycle inside. Property is close to Karchner Caverns, Tombstone, Bisbee, and Sierra Vista.

Relaxing getaway

We enjoyed our stay at the Whetstone Retreat. It was a quiet neighborhood a few miles out of Huachuca City. The back yard was an amazing retreat. Valley and Steve were very helpful hosts.

Comfortable house with charming back yard

Valley and Steve are excellent hosts! It was so nice to meet and get to know the,. The property is conveniently located for exploring areas around Tombstone and Bisbee, and is next door to Huachuca City and Sierra Vista. Be aware that with that convenience comes some traffic noise from the busy highways, such as they are in southeastern Arizona. Sitting on the lovely back patio to birdwatch was a perfect distraction! While we were there we explored Fairbanks Ghost Town, which is close by. The guys drove up and did the Titan Silo Missile Museum Tour while the girls hiked up Ramsey Canyon for birdwatching and went to the antique mall that was close by. We also went to Tombstone, which is only about 20-25 minutes away, a few times. We did the Copper Mine Tour in Bisbee, which is only about 45 minutes away. The house is perfectly set up with 3 bedrooms that each has a queen sized bed. The beds are divinely comfortable! The kitchen is fully stocked with all necessary implements, but if you find you need something Valley is quick to respond to get it to you. We grilled out on the back patio area one day and it was perfect! One thing that caught us by surprise was the per person extra fee for over 2 people. There were 5 of us in the group and with 3 Queen sized beds, we assumed 6 was the guest limit. This may have been a VRBO oversight in the listing, so just be aware of it. You will not be sorry if you rent this property! It is well worth it. Thank you, Valley and Steve for making our visit most pleasant!

My husband and I had a great stay at Valley’s house. The house itself was spacious and clean! The location was great for some nice hikes, exploring Tombstone and checking out the local wineries. Easy communication and check in!

We love cooking good food & drinking good wine. In fact, we make our own wine and do quite a bit of canning (interesting things like habanero sauce, blackberry black pepper & aged rum jam, pickled asparagus, paleo apple butter, etc.) We have enjoyed fishing in Alaska for halibut & salmon and make our own smoked salmon. We especially like it when we get to meet our guests, which frequently gives us an opportunity to share the things we make.
Our favorite compliment from our guests is when they express that their experience has been like a "home away from home."
Our first AirBnB experiences were in Barcelona, Spain and Amsterdam. We absolutely loved the feeling of experiencing how we would live if we were locals there! That's what inspired us to create our own AirBnB. So far, it's been great to share our own area with folks from other places, especially because Cochise County, Arizona is a totally amazing destination in so many ways!
Steve and Valley are both licensed Realtors with Keller Williams Southern Arizona. So, if you are thinking of relocating to the area, buying a house, selling a house, or investing in property in Southeast Arizona, we will be happy to work with you!

Ideal location. Cool, shady back patio and garden if you're escaping the Phoenix heat! Close to Kartchner Caverns, Tombstone (and Bisbee,) Sonoita/Elgin wineries and, of course, Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca. Gourmet kitchen for those who love to cook. Great for military families.

Extremely relaxing covered back patio & shaded backyard that attracts butterflies & hummingbirds. Beautiful water fountain. Fairy lights in covered gazebo. Guests have called this place "more than a Retreat, it's an Oasis."
