About this property
Beautiful & Private Mid Century Modern Country-House on 10 Acres near Caledon!
Welcome to our country house! We rent it for several weeks a year when we can't be there ourselves. Only 45minutes to an hour from Toronto, it’s the perfect setting to work from home, relax, walk, hike, cycle, ski or be creative and get inspired. Moments from equestrian farms, world class golf courses and hiking trails.
Located near Caledon, just north of Palgrave in Adjala-Tosorontio, this mid-century house is perched on a hill set deep into a beautifully forested 10-acre lot with private trails and two pretty ponds.
Escape from the city to this magical, private countryside retreat in less than an hour. About 55 minutes from downtown Toronto, 45 minutes from Pearson Airport.
The first thing you will notice about the home is the sense of privacy, calm & quiet. Located up a long driveway on a serviced road, the house is not visible from the main road or neighbours. Surrounded by equestrian farms and forestland you will feel a million miles away.
Custom built in 1969, the house itself is spacious & cozy, filled with warm textiles and spots to curl up with a book in. The main room features a massive working fieldstone fireplace and a stunning 23 foot cedar slat ceiling with a skylight. Seat 8 people on the sectional sofa and watch a movie on the 60" tv, surf the web, put on a record and relax or dance the night away!
Cook and eat outside on the 1500 sq foot deck (yes, it is a very large deck) we have a smoker, a propane BBQ and a charcoal grill. You can have a picnic in the yard, or you can dine in the large dining room next to the fully stocked kitchen. You can still interact with your guests while cooking at the gas fuelled Chef's stove and clean up is a breeze with the double sink and dishwasher. There are dozens of spices and baking ingredients, a full pantry and a large assortment of cookware and bakeware, contemporary and vintage.
The main floor is rounded out with a spacious master bedroom, kids room and two bathrooms.
Wide, floating, solid oak stairs lead to the lower level that includes a retro wet bar, a hidden closet full of board games, crafts and puzzles and a large, comfortable den that also features a large, natural gas fieldstone fireplace, 9' ceilings, and floor to ceiling windows. The bedroom has a queen size bed and the fourth bedroom is currently being used as a home office and music room. The lower level also has a full bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. All of the rooms feature wonderfully large, floor to ceiling windows with spectacular views of the forest below.
The 10-acre grounds include two ponds that are joined by a small stream that winds its way down a gentle hill. The front yard is approximately an acre in size and dotted with mature Cedars, Birch, Pines and Willows as well as Lilac, Sumac and fruit trees. A great area to relax and/or play a game of frisbee or badminton with your kids. There is also a trampoline, and a play structure with a slide, climbing wall, monkey bars and swings.
We now have an above-ground pool in the front yard. While it’s not an Olympic lap pool, it’s 22ft long snd 4ft deep. Currently tiki-themed, it’s perfect for (supervised) kids swimming, and a very fun way to cool down and play on those hot summer days.
Behind the house, steps built into the hillside lead down into the forest that is largely made up of Pine, Cedar, Birch, Spruce and Maple.
There is a dishwasher, washer and dryer, water cooler and central A/C. There is a crib, a pack and play, and a high chair available if needed.

If you want to relax and unwind in a very peaceful setting then this is the place. It was amazingly quiet and an enjoyable stay, especially if one can appreciate mid modern design.
Great property. We stayed in the winter. Lots of space outdoors to enjoy nature, and for kids to play and explore. Forest with some trails, hills, huge deck, benches, and a playground all on the property. We didn't have to go anywhere for outdoor entertainment during our stay because there's so much to do outdoors on the huge property.Indoors is very spacious. Lots of kids activities, nice fireplace, large comfortable rooms, 3 bathrooms, sauna, One living room on the main floor and a second living room in the basement, and very clean.Kitchen has everything you need. Internet connection is also good, and there's a desk in the main room in case you need to get some work done.

Thanks for the kind review… Alex and his family were perfect guests. I arrived back to the house as if I hadn’t left. I’d highly recommend as guests.
Our family had a great time at this cottage. The toys/games made it very child friendly and we loved the calm/relaxing atmosphere that the cottage offered. It's very peaceful - we didn't hear any neighbor's for the week that we were there, but it was great that Tottenham was just a few minutes away if we needed anything. Definitely a hidden gem!

Sarah and her family were great guests. Simple communication, nice people, super low maintenance, and treated the property with care and respect. I highly recommend them as guests and would gladly have them again anytime.
Beautiful property with a forest and a pond in the backyard. Very comfortable flow from outside to inside. We enjoyed the huge deck and spent endless hours by the fireplace. The house inside is quite unique, we felt as if we were on a set of one of the older James Bond movies. All of us: adults, teenagers and kids had awesome time and something to do. Howie is a wonderful host! Would love to come back again in summer.

Midcentury modern oasis on a hilltop in farm country
This was the most beautiful house I have ever stayed in. So much space and light inside and out. Gorgeous deck and landscaping. Conifer groves and waterfalls. Trails right out the back, and quiet country roads to walk, or try the rail trail in Tottenham. Make a pilgrimage to see the Group of Seven at the McMichael Collection. Like this house, it has stunning art and surroundings.

What a fantastic house!
Loads of space and great facilities. Very clean and a pleasure to stay in. Comfy beds, great TV and good bathrooms. Just over 30 mins to outskirts of Toronto.
The best bit about the house is the fabulous design which is exactly as the photos depict.
The chipmunks and squirrels were very entertaining.
Comms with the owner were excellent. A minor issue was resolved immediately making our stay much more enjoyable.
Highly recommended property in quiet area for families and alike.

Very private, very interesting unique charming home.
A little quirky.
Beautiful deck with a forest behind,
We did not turn on a tv just listened to the trees, the birds and the silence. Slow motion place with everything you need to be comfortable. And more.
Totally on slow as we returned to our home.
5 stars…

Jan and Jim were perfect guests. Excellent communication and respect of the house. I’d rent to them anytime and recommend them highly!
Outstanding stay in the property. An exquisite home, equipped to the teeth. We loved sitting outside on the huge deck up in the tree canopy, around the fire stove, and inside in the spacious super comfortable living room with all the amenities. Our host Howie was EXCEPTIONAL. He responded to every text immediately and provided assistance when needed. It accommodated 2 couples with large comfortable beds. The other 2 bedrooms are more suited to young children. Had the best stay ever.

Joanne and her family were fantastic guests and treated my home like it was their own. I would highly recommend them as guests and would gladly have them stay again any time!
Howie's house in incredible! It's aesthetically beautiful, with authentic mid-century design (think Don Draper meets The Brady Bunch). We found the layout to be perfect; kids slept and hung-out downstairs, meaning the adults could actually relax and socialize upstairs. The deck is one of a kind! Spacious, well furnished and appointed, with a truly spectacular view. The house was spotless when we arrived, and everything we needed was there on-site. Howie was communicative and kind and has done a superb job of furnishing and designing his truly remarkable home. We'll be back!

Thanks so much for the kind words! David and his family were great guests and treated the home as if it was their own. I would highly recommend them as guests.
From the minute we arrived, the property absolutely stunned. The house is a veritable museum of mid-century modern architecture and decor, nestled into 10 gorgeous forested acres. There are so many details that it would take pages to describe it, but suffice it to say that it’s unlike anything we’ve ever visited.
Our family of four adults had plenty of room to spread out, and the spotlessly clean home had every amenity, appliance, and implement you could ever need or want. Whether grilling on the enormous deck or making pasta in the kitchen, the place invites you to linger, relax, and enjoy the spectacular setting. Close to several hiking areas and nearby towns, there was never a moment of boredom during our 10-day stay. The trails out behind the house are perfect for a morning stroll, and the grounds surrounding the house are colorfully planted and well maintained. With comfortable beds, a full array of games and books, and lots of room, even a rainy day is a sheer delight.
Our host was communicative, friendly, and helpful, and made us feel welcome even before we arrived. His periodic check-ins on our satisfaction and comfort were much appreciated.
This was a once-in-a-lifetime vacation for us, and SO worth the long drive from Texas and Virginia. The memories we made here will be long cherished. It may be trite to say, but we really didn’t want to leave, and we would excitedly return should the opportunity present itself.
