We had a great trip! The cabin was delightful. We had some questions and the owner was very responsive to messages. The lake access is difficult to get to because of the wetlands, but very much worth the effort. I recommend bringing rubber boots to get down the path. Otter Lake by canoe is just gorgeous!
The experience of watching the eclipse with my family out on the dock was awesome. We enjoyed taking the canoe out around Otter Lake and barbecuing in the yard. It was very relaxing. It was fun exploring the different areas around Forestport.

The Cabin is cute and quaint but the structure shows its age . While it is a pet friendly cabin , which we appreciate, it should be noted that the cabin is situated very close to a busy section of Rt 28 , renters with active pets should take note .Kitchen is modern and convenient as well as the bathroom, beds were very comfortable. The access to the lake is very challenging due to wetlands, but it could be easily fixed during the dry season with installation of planks/ pallets in areas that are most conducive to muck, also fallen branches should be removed from the path . It is worth getting to the lake as it is very scenic.Overall we enjoyed our stay , but it could be challenging for those who are less mobile.
Place was rustic just 2 drawbacks, first being internet reception in Otter Lake is generally poor, not owners fault.
Second as rainy this spring has been path to lack through woods was not passable. Cabin was very functional though

Needs more improvements
The house is nice. Would like to go back after they finish making improvements. The docks is very mucky to get to. There are planks so you don’t have to walk in the muck. I feel the planks are not secure.. They need to clear brush on path to the dock. Add more planks that are secure. Then you can get to the lake.

The cabin is not like the pictures at all.
The photos are definitely edited. Only 2 windows have screens. The walk to the dock is through a swamp on broken pallets. And it was not clean.

Hello Melissa, thanks for letting us know about your stay! The owner wanted to share the following:
- We use professional photography for the home, so the features you see on the listing are accurately advertised.
- Per local environmental guidance, we must be respectful of surrounding natural environments/habitats — the wooden material planks are environmentally friendly.
- We have recently changed cleaning services and we will ensure the cleaning is in top shape for our guests as this will not happen again.
We appreciate your feedback as we continue to improve for our guests! We do appreciate your feedback. Thanks

Not exactly what we expected
Felt mislead by the pics of the dock. Access was not easy. Recommend offering alternative options.
The house was nice, but small. Kitchen Cold water faucet leaked. There were also ants .
But all in all was a nice time. 🙂
I loved the camp. It was clean, roomy, and had all the things you would need to get by. It was also a convenient location to everything. I gave it a 4star because the picture was deceiving. You couldn't sit in the chairs and see the water which was a wide stream leading to the lake. The path to get to the canoe was horrible. It was very swampy and slippery. Be sure to bring boots!! If you made it to the canoe, you can paddle to the lake.

Could have been better
Called and emailed first night about wireless connection. The WiFi and password on the table incorrect. Has to figure that in our own as no one returned email, text or voicemail. Once connected it didn't work well. . TV kept freezing. No blinds on any Windows. . Property outside was ok but not well kept. The area is beautiful... Despite the property. T
Place seemed slapped together rent. The water coming from the taps was not drinkable.
You can tell money was put into the place but never pushed over the finish line. Live and learn I would not recommend this property for the price.
We loved this rustic little cabin. Such a nice, relaxing vacation. The only disappointment was the lake was a walk away and the path was not an easy path to take. A lot of missing boards and slippery because of the rain. Besides that, it was a wonderful week.
Cabin was small but cozy. Very clean with a ton of extra touches to make our stay memorable - plants, well stocked wit paper products, daily essentials, two coffee makers, fans, nice cooking amenities, great outdoor sitting area, and even a pie and ice cream. Great communication with the manager and the mattresses and bedding were very nice. Hubby went fishing in canoe and we had a lovely campfire. Great location for exploring the area. Enjoyed our stay!
The house/cottage was very nice and was cute and Adirondack feeling. However, There was no ac unit(s) and the small fans were just not enough for how hot it was. (Especially when we then lost power due to storm for 6 hours) We went and bought fans. The lake path was disappointing as it was a marsh and swampy and the pallets for the path are rickety and many broken. We chose not to use the lake for this reason. Overall the space was nice and the house was clean and nicely decorated.
It was a nice cozy like cabin but the Carpenter Ants were everywhere in the cabin, and no AC ..
Carpenter Ants we’re everywhere in cabin and It definitely needed AC ,it was nice that fans were provided and the lake Access was a little deceiving, the trail to lake could have been trimmed and pallets were rotten for path…overall rating 6 out of a 10
