Welcome to our vacation home at Hellnar.

The house is in the beautiful renowned location of Hellnar, the famous destination of nature lovers, painters, photographers and writers alike. You have the National Park, the glacier (Snæfellsjökull), the magnificent coast, mountain view and lava at your doorstep. You can stay there and simply enjoy the serenity, scenery and hiking trails, or/and use it as a base camp for various explorations in Snæfellsnes.

The Business Insider named Hellnar on Snæfellsnes one of "25 secret villages in Europe you should visit in your lifetime" (2017).

The accommodation offers 100 square meters on two floors in a bright, comfortable and well-equipped house. Quality bedding and furniture. No extra fees (bed linen and towels included in price). There is a self-check-in.

On the first floor is an open space kitchen, a dining area, a seating area and a bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped (with dish washer). The pantry has all the basics you need for your small or large meals. Fully tiled bathroom with a shower and heated floors. A washing machine/dryer combo at no extra cost (washing powder included as well).

There are 3 separate bedrooms on the upper floor and an informal TV/DVD corner in the hallway. For those looking for a writing retreat or a desk for hobby, a sturdy folding table can be used.

As we use the house for writing retreats there is an excellent internet connection: wireless internet and high speed fiber optic internet connection.

Please note that the staircase is steep.

All guests are expected to clean the house before they leave. Cleaning service is available for an extra fee (please contact owners for more information). As of January 2020 guests are NOT expected to wash linens and towels.

The hosts add enhanced cleaning measures between each visit, guaranteeing everything is perfect for your arrival.

Please note that camping and stay in campers are not allowed at Kjarvalströd.

Ingjaldshóll Historic Site and Murals of Hellissandur are local landmarks, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Ólafsvíkur Swimming Pool and Grundarfjardar Swimming Pool. Travelling with kids? Consider Maritime Museum in the Fisherman's Garden and Grundfjordur Public Pool. Make sure you get close to the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.

One of a kind!

This is a one-of-a-kind property in the most amazing location! The house is an absolute jewel and it is exceptionally decorated. The owners communicate well and shared their insider's list of places to see that were off the beaten track. We would definitely book this property again!

Cozy home between Ocean an Glacier

A very quiet, cozy, and fully equipped holiday home by the sea, nestled in the stunning nature at the foot of Snæfellsjökull. It is a perfect starting point for day trips to the nearby national park or to Kirkjufell. Communication with the owner, Snorri, was smooth and prompt. Absolutely recommended for 2 to 4 people. We would gladly return anytime.

Lovely stay

We could hike a lot. Apartment has a splendid ambiance. Supermarket is on other side of peninsula. Not everything available and quite pricy but quality is good. Better bring food from bigger town.

Wonderful home in beautiful Hellnar

We had a wonderful autumn vacation in Iceland on the peninsula in the shadow of Snæfellsjökull. It was wonderful to wake up to the views of the ocean to the south and the white capped Snæfellsjökull mountain to the north. Hellnar was quiet and the property was beautiful and cozy. The house itself was beautiful, well maintained, warm and had everything we needed for a great stay. Snorri, the owner was responsive on VRBO and we were fully satisfied.

Wonderful stay!

Great location! Beautiful view of Snaefellsnes. Excellent hiking. We especially enjoyed the beautiful walk between Hellnar and Arnastapi through the lava and along the cliffs. The house was comfortable with puzzles, games and movies (we watched Journey to the Center of the Earth, but they also had Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones) to enjoy on the day that it rained. Full kitchen and very comfortable house. Very nice swimming pool in Olafsvik. Highly recommended. We would stay there again!

Hellnar Heaven

I have stayed in VRBO rentals all over Europe and North America and this was by far my favorite location. Very few affordable homes have the Atlantic Ocean out the front front windows and mountains (and a glacier) out the back. The Snaefellsnes Peninsula is truly a magical place and should not be missed. And this beautiful house was absolutely perfect and beautifully situated. Thank you Snorri and family for being such wonderful and accommodating hosts. We will come again.

The pictures of the house online are stunning, and they precisely captured the beauty we experienced there. The weather was clear for our August trip, so we had daily views of the glacier and the sea. It is a very charming little house that was great for our family (three generations).

This is a lovely home, well-outfitted, and very cozy! The area feels remote, but there are a variety of activities and beautiful places to explore, and it is a short drive from Reykjavik! Great communication! We’d definitely return!

Wirklich perfekt und sympatisch

Alles wie annonciert. Haus in kleiner "Architektenkolonie" von 10 verschiedenen Häusern -die anderen stören gar nicht. Bezaubernder Strand mit "eigenem Seehund" Snörli dazu. Sehr sehr charmant. Haus perfekt ausgestattet und rundweg sympathisch.

Quaint Home in Beautiful Location

We had a wonderful time staying 4 nights in this unique home on the Snaefellsnes peninsula. It was very cozy, even with cold winds outside. The kitchen is small, but well-equipped. This worked fine for our group of 3, as we only made breakfast there. The beds were comfortable, and there are light darkening shades on the bedroom windows. The staircase to the second floor is steep, but we were careful and had no incidents.It was a great base from which to access the sights.

Absolutely Breathtaking

This absolutely stunning home was perfectly nestled in between mountains and ocean. The home has all the comforts needed to feel at home. Lovely cottage

We had a wonderfull time in Iceland and this cottage made our vacation very comfortable. It was the perfect place to get home to after a long and, sometimes, cold day outside. The cottage was clean, all necessities are there and it is lovely decorated. It made us fell "at home" during the 1,5 weeks we spend there. Between the mountains behind the house and the ocean in front of the house, the views can’t be beat. Easy to get to all the points of interest on the peninsula. Out of the way of most of the hustle and bustle of a busy city, which is what we like.

Wonderful rural home

This home is rural, but in a beautiful setting! It is also well stocked with games and drawing supplies for the kids. It was a great place to stay while exploring the western end of the Snaefellsnes peninsula. And there was a grocery store, pool, and playgrounds only 35 minutes away.

We loved this house- not only the comfy, well-allocated house but also the location. close to the peninsula and all of the things to see but we could also walk out the door to take hikes. hope to come back some day :)

Beautiful house - great location

Our family of 3 stayed here on our vacation in early June. Everything was clean and as described. It was a great location to do some day trips/hikes on the peninsula. Communication was very good and beds were comfortable. Please note: the bathroom is on the first floor and the steps to the bedrooms are steep. It didn't bother us but something to consider depending on your mobility if you need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Would highly recommend!
