Another Peaceful Christmas on the Marsh :)

This is our second year staying at the Marsh Cottage for Christmas and we rebooked because the home is very tastefully decorated, kitchen is well-appointed so I can make Christmas dinner without supplementary items from home, and the views are breathtaking. Even if you're being lazy watching basketball on Christmas Day you can have the screen door wide open and feel like you are one with nature-even hearing the ocean!Harbor Island is perfect for us in wintertime because there are little to no people and our dog can run on the beach (only if there are no other people or doggies in sight, of course). We love the proximity to Beaufort and Lady's Island but also love the quiet and restfulness that the season brings you with the added comfort of a gated community, so I never feel uncomfortable walking the dog at night, as an example.Theresa is a wonderful Property Manager. We had an issue with the golf cart the first evening we went to use it and I called her first thing the next day and by the afternoon it had been repaired-a true Christmas miracle considering we were so close to the holiday! I appreciated that promptness because riding the golf cart at night to see everyone's lights is our favorite activity to do and the main reason why we rebooked this house instead of others that do not include a golf cart. The owner also personally reached out to make sure we were back on track!There are not as many in-home amenities as I remembered, like laundry pods or any soaps, etc. so we had to run out to get those items for our longer stay but next time we will be prepared and bring more items like that.Overall, cannot say enough positive things about the cottage, just a great place to recharge that is very tastefully decorated like someone lives there and took the time (not tacky coastal like many other places we have stayed.) We will return!

Could be improved

First of all, any stay on Harbor Island will automatically be a great location. We were pleased with the communication prior to our trip, notifying us of construction next door and answering questions we had. Having an included golf cart with the rental is a major plus. The layout of the home is nice, and there's plenty of space for guests - both human and pet alike. The home itself appears to be older and needs noticeable updates. The guest bathtub did not drain well and the toilet paper holder was broken. There was also noticeable mold on the shower curtain. The overall cleanliness of the home was not great. An odor of (maybe) cigarette smoke/dirty pets permeated the home and did not go away over time. Lots of pet hair left over from previous guests, as well. The living room TV had noticeable smears all over the screen. There appeared to be boogers smeared on a doorframe between a bedroom and bathroom. When we were stripping the sheets off of the bed in the primary bedroom, there was noticeable dirt and pine needles underneath on the mattress. So no, we were not happy with the apparent lack of cleaning. Our stay overall was fine, but we would not book again.

Overall just wonderful. Low tide lots of beach to play. High tide still a walk to swim but enjoyable. Johnson bar and seaside great food. House is well stocked. Be careful parking.

Perfectly Private Getaway Spot!

My husband and I started a new tradition this year and instead of gifts, we splurged and spent ten days on Harbor Island with the cottage retreat as our home base. BEST DECISION EVER! The home is decorated beautifully and there are views from the main living room and two of the three bedrooms that capture the ocean and expansive marsh. The home is very private, you can enjoy the back deck without hearing or seeing any neighbors. The kitchen is very well appointed with high-quality cookware and appliances. We made Christmas dinner and I had every tool I could have needed! The golf cart is a fun perk and we enjoyed riding around the island looking for the best place to watch the sunset and the lovely Christmas decorations. The dog-friendly feature was especially great for us and they provide dog blankets to protect the furniture which was helpful as well. Honestly one of the best places we’ve stayed in the Sea Islands and we will be back!

Our first time staying here was magical - this time was disappointing. Wasn't as clean as we remembered & AC remained at 76-78 until dark. It was fine for what we were using it for (quick getaway, beach is close, pool down the street) but would probably not come back.

Perfect Getaway

The house was perfect and we loved the layout! The views of the marsh were stunning, and we enjoyed sitting on the deck daily. Having the golf cart was a plus, as we used it to haul our gear to the beach. Loved that it was pet friendly!

Great place at Harbor

This beach cottage is clean and has all the amenities a family would need at the beach. An added bonus was it being pet friendly. We have gone to Harbor for years and this was one of our favorite stays.

Relaxing space

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had everything we needed to relax, and it was big enough for the family. Beach access was close, and other amenities were available to do also. We did sunset strolls on the beach or golf cart rides every night. Saw dolphins, gators and a snake. Thanks again for your space in low country.

Great cottage, disappointing beach

The cottage itself was great - cute decor, clean, well stocked kitchen, comfy beds. Owners/managers quick to respond and easy to work with. All the extras - bottle of wine in the fridge, beach supplies, golf cart, state park pass - much appreciated. The beach, however, was disappointing. We expected the extreme tides and lack of surf, but that was no problem. What was the problem was the TONS of jellyfish. (Not any better jellyfish-wise at the State Park beach.) It made just walking on the beach unpleasant, let alone putting your toes in the surf. Our young adult daughter also had an encounter with two alligators on the beach, one of which was hissing aggressively. We expected gators in the marsh and saw several, but not so much on the beach itself.That said, we opted to spend our lounging time at the pool - which was big, clean and well landscaped with lots of chairs - so it turned out ok in the end. The low country is always full of surprises and overall we loved the cottage and had a great vacation.

Beautiful Marsh View

The view from the back deck is breathtaking. We had a couple issues but the owner is wonderful to work with. The refrigerator is super fancy but we prefer one that produces more ice. We bought ice trays and left them there. This house has a ton of storage space which is great. They have blankets to cover the furniture and bed but I don’t think people use them like they should. It is nice to have the golf cart for taking rides and going to the beach. Please pick up after your dog if you bring them because it make those of us that do look bad.

Beach Vacation

Pros: comfortable bed Nice kitchen ( very well equipped) Large dining area Hot shower water Plenty of parking space Nice golf cart to use Neighborhood is quite and secure Lovely property outside Cons: The house looked like it had not been cleaned. If it had it was a bad job of it. There was dust on everything There was dust and pet hair ball the size of baseballs under some of the furniture and easy to spot The front door had spiderwebs and dead insects all around i The furniture was nice but dated Some written instructions on how to adjust the thermostat would have been help. We are senior citizens and not up on the latest electronics. We did find out by trial and error. Over two days. All in all we would stay there again in the future.

Serene and clean

We enjoyed our stay at this property. It was beautifully clean, well appointed and met our expectations. The hosts were professional and easy to communicate with. The efforts to account two dogs were great.

Beautiful, nature filled stay

We loved the location. Right over the marsh and short walk to secluded part of the beach. Bonus to have the golf cart and free pass to the State Park on Hunting Island. Kitchen was well equipped and plenty of beach chairs / towels. Could easily spend a week here.
