Unique and Cozy Eco Friendly Straw Bale Home in Mountain Town

Enjoy this unique straw bale and timber frame construction, situated on a three acre property only minutes outside the beautiful mountain town of Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. This is not your typical “ Mountain Modern” home!
Enjoy the cozy cabin feel in a home filled with local artwork done by amazingly talented Kootenay craftspeople. The straw bale construction keeps the home cool in the summer and cozy warm in the winter. The large property gives you access to endless hiking, snowshoeing, snowbiking, and biking trails right out your back door. Amazing skiing, golfing and fly fishing are all only ten minutes away. The large back deck with bbq has beautiful mountain views where you can watch the sun set behind the mountain ranges and see the sky turn spectacular colors. There is also a fire pit in the back yard.

The house has two bedrooms on the upper level with a bathroom, and one bedroom on the lower level with a bathroom. The main floor is the living/dining/kitchen area with a half bath.

Fernie is a stunning mountain town with tons of character, unique shopping, and a foodies paradise! We have award winning chefs in this town serving up everything from Nepalese, South American, Japanese, Mexican, Thai and Indian, just to name a few. Fernie Brewing Company, an award winning brew pub, is located within walking distance of our home.

This town is best known for the world class downhill skiing it offers at Fernie Alpine Resort. This resort is regularly included in top ten lists of resorts around North America and the world. The hill receives over 12 feet of snow annually,most of it in the form of powder!!
Equally impressive are the summertime opportunities in Fernie, which include mountain biking at the ski hill or on the endless trail networks around the area, and hiking the beautiful surrounding mountains. The Elk River is world renowned for fly fishing . There are also whitewater rafting and gorgeous river floating opportunities. Beach fun on the beautiful Lake Koocanusa is only 30 minutes away.

We had a great time at the house, great views and more size than our party of 2 plus dog needed. One of the best supplied houses we have ever stayed in with VRBO, at we are at over 15 at this point. Everything from an espresso machine to able dishware's etc are available. We would definitely stay again when we are in the area

Winter stay in Fernie

Wonderful, cozy, warm residence. 3 story, not large square footage, but very well laid out. It was cold, even by Canadian standards, as a result we spent a few days never leaving the place, 1 adult and 2 teenagers, and it was very comfortable, we did not get in each other's way. Southerly facing windows, beautiful view of Fernie Alpine Resort, radiant floor heating in parts of house, well stocked kitchen, very creative artistic owners in how they built and decorated the place.

Mountain Serenity

Andrea’s property is a beautiful and unique home, conveniently located just outside the city limits of Fernie. It is clear that this home is a labour of love, with carefully crafted, artistic, and eccentric touches throughout. Seeking peace and quiet, we were not disappointed as a family celebrating a monumental birthday. Andrea was excellent to deal with and our experience was overwhelmingly positive. Everything you might need in addition to the serenity of rural relaxation is a short 5 minute drive from the property. We loved our stay and are so thankful these fine folks were willing to share their home with us.
