Cabin On Montana: A Quiet, Clean, Renovated Cabin In Downtown Bozeman, Montana

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,400 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Great Location, Like New, Easy Parking, Permitted, Quick Bridger Bowl Access

There is plenty of parking and very little traffic at the end of Bozeman's quiet and eclectic North Montana Avenue. The Cabin has a nice side yard to the south and it sits on a large corner lot. Walking distance to downtown, several parks, the library, several great craft breweries, delicious dining options, a couple of coffee shops and the free bus to Bridger Bowl, the Cabin is well situated.

It is also well appointed with all new high efficiency appliances including a washer and electric steam dryer, refrigerator with ice-maker, garbage disposal, dish washer, microwave, gas range, range hood and vacuum. The kitchen is fully stocked with kitchenware and service ware for eight or more. There is a small growler collection for you to use to fill up at the local breweries. The cabin features partial light top-down bottom-up blinds in the kitchen and living spaces and full dark-down bottom-up blinds in the sleeping rooms and office.

The cabin offers new queen size beds in each of the three bedrooms. Each bedroom has a chair, closet, nightstand(s), lamp(s), alarm clock, luggage stands, coat hangers and dresser. The master bedroom also offers an iron and ironing board.

The living room area has a new sectional couch and coffee table. The dining room table can seat four with comfortable chairs or you can add a leaf and use extra chairs to seat up to eight. The living room features a 40" Smart TV with Cable and a HD DVD/CD player. The Sound Bar has a wireless sub. Guests can play music via the TV, including streaming their favorite concerts via YouTube, they can connect to it with their phones or other devices via Bluetooth to stream their favorite music or radio stations or they can play some warpy old vinyl on the phonograph.

The wall between the kitchen and living area is open with a custom bar and stools. This really brings the living and dining room space together nicely with the kitchen.

The entire cabin has lots of windows which allow for a lot of light and nice views of the mature trees and flowers in the yards and the Bridger Mountain Range to the north. The neighbors to the south are two city lots and a fence away and they have no windows facing the cabin.

The study offers an ethernet port, small desk, chair, space for gear and a map table. This is a great room for storing your skis and packs in, hanging your waders in, tying flies, looking at maps, or for sitting down at the desk with your laptop to plan your next adventure in.

There are two full baths in the cabin. Each features high efficiency Moen fixtures, water saving Kohler toilets and Kohler sinks. The upstairs bath has a new Kohler tub with shower and the downstairs master bath features a spacious two-person shower with two shower heads. Each bathroom is adorned with white subway tile, great lighting, separate heaters, vents, mirrors. In addition, the lower bath offers a seperate vanity with seating and a blow dryer.

Their are two WiFi channels (5Ghz, 2 Ghz) throughout the cabin, the front porch and the yards. The cabin features a new high efficiency forced air furnace and a new fifty gallon electric water heater. It is thoroughly insulated and features new high efficiency windows and doors. All of the lights are efficient LED and most are dimmable.

The Cabin On Montana's covered front porch offers views of the Bridger Range, privacy blinds, a yellow porch swing and park bench. The front of the cabin faces east and this makes the porch a nice place to sit in the morning as the sun rises before heading out for the next adventure!

About Reno Walsh

My wife and I have lived in Bozeman, Montana for over twenty-two years. My wife is from Montana and I am from the midwest originally. We both moved to Bozeman to play in the mountains and make a life for ourselves in a place we want to live to rest of our lives.

We are outdoor enthusiasts. We ski and snowboard as much as we can in the winter and mountain bike, trail run, fly fish, raft, canoe and garden as much as we can in the summer.

We live next door to the Cabin On Montana just across the alley to the west. We both work full time here in Bozeman. I work from home which allows me some flexibility to meet with our guests and to offer my assistance when needed.

We are proud parents and active community members. We look forward to meeting you at the Cabin On Montana and hop to have a chance to share our enthusiasm for the place we call home with you.

Reno Walsh purchased this house in 2012

Why Reno Walsh chose Bozeman

Three years ago an old man came over to borrow a drill. When he brought it back, I offered him a glass of lemonade and we sat on an old Bridger Lift Chair on our deck and started to talk. After some time passed the man said, "I'm getting older and don't want to have to take care of that place next door any longer. You and your wife should buy it." I assured him we could not afford it. He insisted. My wife and I then scraped together all of our savings and made him an offer and suggested a contract for deed. He and his wife accepted.

My wife and I had our first child shortly after that. Then my parents started to visit more often. They were staying in vacation rentals because our home is too small. That is when we decided to see if we could get a permit to operate a vacation rental and a loan to renovate the cabin so that my parents could stay in whenever they wanted to visit and we could rent it out otherwise to help us cover the significant costs of owning a home in Bozeman. We got the permit. We got the loan. We renovated. My parents are staying there when they visit. Now we just need you to come and stay at the Cabin On Montana.

What makes this house unique

The Cabin On Montana is the sixth permitted vacation rental in Bozeman's downtown R2 zoning district. We presented our case to the city commission explaining why the property would be a great representation of Bozeman and assured them that we could jump through their hoops. The city required us to pay a significant fee to obtain a permit. They required us to write a narrative, to speak to the commission multiple times, to bring the cabin up to code, have the cabin inspected by the fire department, the health department, the engineering department and the planning department. They required a sign. They required insurance and a business license. We asked our thee approval of the property owners that live in the vicinity and everyone agreed that the cabin adds value and appeal to the neighborhood and encouraged us to move forward. Then we obtained a business license and called our business a Cabin On Montana. In the end, the cabin is permitted, it is insured, it is up to code, the neighbors are welcoming and it's a pretty nice place to stay.

Awesome place! Great hosts

  • 5 of 5

This place is top notch. Rugged and western look and feel from the outside, in all the right ways, and new and modern inside from top to bottom. Looks like it was just built. Immaculately clean, nice kitchen appliances and showers, etc. Can't beat this place. Reno and Heather could write the book on how to VRBO host. Just the right amount of communication and information provided without being over-bearing or invasive to your privacy. And they live right next door in the event that something goes wrong...which it won't because they've covered everything. Would definitely recommend. Six out of five stars.

Perfect long weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We visited Bozeman to visit the MSU campus with our son. The house is super clean, very updated and had all the little niceties that you find in a fancy hotel. Everything was provided for us from delicious coffee to shower products.

We walked from the cabin to downtown and to the campus and everything was very easily accessible.

We love this house and plan on making this our home away from home when we visit our son in college for the next 4 years!

Highly recommended.

Perfect Bozeman Stay

  • 5 of 5

The "cabin" was a pleasant surprise. Everything was fresh and new but still had the old world feel of early Bozeman. Reno Walsh has done a superb job of upgrading everything to a tasteful and modern standard. New appliances, great beds with comforters, fresh paint. The lower level did not feel like most basements. Ceilings were normal height and the lighting was very good. Two bikes for a ride downtown although we walked to Main Street several times. Great access to the Main to Mountains Trail system....the dogs loved it. The owner is nearby and ready to assist in any way needed. All in all a great experience. Thanks Reno, Heather and Hazel.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for a great review. We hope your travels are going well. If you have time, please let us know if you have any recommendations for how we could improve the property. Install a stereo receiver, raise the hanging lights above the dining table, plant more evergreens, do something with the wild yard to the south, put in a large fence to the south, add more art, whatever comes to mind. We'd appreciate any input - and again - if you have time. We sincerely hope you guys stay at the Cabin again. Cheers, The Walshes
