Needs Cleaning and Maintenance

When we arrived, dead mosquitos were all over the wall, and the rental smelled awful. There were two smell issues: a persistent mildew smell and a sewage smell that would happen 1-2 times a day. I did reach out to the host, and maintenance resolved the persistent smell, but they were only able to partially resolve the sewage smell. The rental needs significant deep cleaning and maintenance. We needed to fix a bed in one room, which collapsed the first night. The deck steps, the step inside the unit, and several spots on the floor were exceptionally soft, which often indicates wood rot. There is an exceedingly low likelihood that the electrical system meets any reasonable building code. I have no idea when the pictures were taken, but the state of the rental is significantly different from the pictures (but not materially, according to VRBO standards). The bathroom was redone with cheap fixtures, and all overhead fans were removed. The removal of the fans results in very uneven cooling. If you've made it this far, you should also be aware that the $15/person resort fee does not give access to the pool area (and likely other areas). This is not the owner's issue, but could definitely be communicated more clearly.

5 days at Shipwreck

The property fee does not include wristbands and I was contacted 2day prior to check in to purchase 8 wristbands. It may have been stated somewhere in the description and I missed it? The property had a foul odor inside the entire stay. It may have been coming from the septic or sewers because it was very noticeable in the bathroom and kitchen. There were no window coverings on the 5 windows in the kitchen and eating area to the front of the property. It was very creepy, especially at night. Everything inside felt a little bit sticky and there were lots of dead bugs stuck on the walls. Bring extra garbage bags. The garbage can provided in the kitchen is a small bathroom size can. The place could use a thorough deep cleaning. I never bothered to mention it after check in so there was no opportunity for the owner to make improvements during my stay, but I expect that a rental will be appropriately cleaned upon arrival. AC in bedrooms worked well. And the on demand hot water was lovely.
