About this property

Sleepy Pines waterfront cottage

2024 built cozy cottage perched on a waterfront cliff on a small lake 2 hours north of Toronto.
Municipality licenced Short Term Rental -STR25-00051.
Perfect for paddlers, hikers, birders and those just wishing to relax. Suits a couple (double bed) and one other adult or child over the age of 12 on pull out (twin bed) couch. This neatly finished custom cabin has a deck overlooking the water with sunset views and is surrounded by pine trees.
The cabin is 2 km from the highway on a narrow and hilly gravel road, and is bordered by the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park. https://www.ontarioparks.ca/park/queenelizabeth2wildlands.

For Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association (GHTS) members, our property is located a 750 m walk from the Ganaraska Wilderness Hiking trail. https://ganaraska-hiking-trail.org/?page_id=26
The terrain is very rugged and beautiful, with rocky hills and a mixed forest of red pine, white pine, oak, cedar, maple and more.

---> Inside
A modern kitchen is equipped with new small fridge, small stove and microwave. The bathroom has a new shower and new composting toilet. The custom designed 340 sf bachelor layout has a cozy bedroom space plus an open concept living / kitchen area. The coffee table top pulls up to create a desk surface in front of the pullout couch. On cool days, electrically heated floors will keep you very comfortable. There is a ceiling fan and insulated blinds that help keep the cabin cool on sweltering summer days. And if needed, an air-conditioning unit. All 12 windows in the cabin have a view of trees.

----> Grounds
Outside, you can relax and listen to the wind sighing through the pine trees. Have a nap in a hammock nestled between the cottage and the lake. Lounge on the deck chairs or on the dock. Meditate on the deck or on a mossy nook overlooking the water. You'll be serenaded by loonsong and whippoorwills . Grill your favourite meals on the BBQ.

A stairway from the deck leads two flights down to a deepwater floating dock that gets hours of full afternoon sun and sunset view. On hot days you can cool off in the forest shade and swim right off the dock. Water entry is deep - about 20 feet so you can't wade in but there is a sturdy ladder on the dock for getting in or out of the lake. There's a canoe available to paddle around the lake and then down a creek to another lake and river. There are 12 km of waterways to explore without portaging. In addition, there are two plastic kayaks for water fun. The deck is positioned for perfect privacy to enjoy the breeze, shade, sun, sunset and outdoor dining. Due to the rugged grounds, the property is generally not suited for those with mobility issues. Due to the proximity of a cliff edge and the deepness of the water at the dock it is not suited for children under the age of 12.

There is a great local restaurant 3 km from the cottage that offers take-out. For supplies, there is a small town 10 km away with a variety store, gas station and restaurants. Full grocery and more stores and services are available 20 km away in a larger town.

Stunning cabin on a beautiful lake!

This lovely cosy modern cabin has absolutely everything you need for a comfortable get away. The cabin was spotlessly clean and very well equipped The owners have really thought about everything, which is especially obvious when using the kitchen - it has everything you need, exactly where you'd expect it to be. The bed and bedding was very comfortable, lots of cushions and pillows to choose from, with amazing views from the bed.The dock is very peaceful and great for relaxing, after jumping into the lake for a quick dip!The instructions provided covered everything - no problems at all. I really enjoyed my time here.

We had the most lovely stay. The pictures don't do this place justice. The view was spectacular, the bed was comfortable, and the home was spotless.We spent most of our time on the water each day. We brought our own boat and were able to tie up easily to the dock. Just be aware that you are encouraged to have a vehicle with 4 wheel drove if you want to use the lake's gravel boat launch. This is no criticism of the cottage at all. If you want to travel to Moore Lake, it's a beautiful boat ride up the river to the lake.Black Lake was so quiet and all the cottagers were friendly. We spent the weekend and it was so nice that there weren't loud parties happening. It was so peaceful. Lisa was always available to answer any questions we had.

About the host

Host profile image
We live in Ontario and love sharing lake life with others. Now that we have replaced our old shack with a new custom built cottage, we are proud to have guests. And our guests help us keep the place in the family by supporting it financially.

Why they chose this property

We have had this property in the family since the 1950's.

What makes this property unique

Stunning cliff side view and beautiful mossy and evergreen needled ground under cedar and pine trees. The forest on our lot has been allowed to grow for about 100 years. This well shaded lot also has plenty of afternoon sun on the lakefront.
