Nyd vores charmerende bjælkehus gemt på bredden af uberørte Sandy Pond. Ro venter dig på denne afsondrede 107 hektar store dam i Central Maine Highlands. Vores hjem er komplet med 3 soveværelser, to badeværelser og masser af plads til at slappe af med familie og venner. Sandy Pond er en skjult perle, en kilometer med 3/4 miles i området, den er årligt fyldt med brun ørreder af staten Maine og kan også prale af mange andre arter til dine fiskerieventyr. Sandy Pond har ingen offentlig bådadgang og en begrænsning på 10 heste på bådmotorer, hvilket gør det fredeligt, selv i sommersæsonen. Nyd din morgenkaffe på vores private dock eller rummelige dæk med en spektakulær udsigt over solopgangen ledsaget af råben fra vores redehuller.
Svømning er sikker og underholdende for alle aldre, da indgangen til dammen gradvis opvarmes vandet pænt om sommeren. Vandet ligger 130 'fra huset. Om aftenen kan du nyde samtalen fra et bål i ildstedet.

The Hideaway was the perfect place to escape for a week. The cabin was clean, beds were incredibly comfortable and Sandy Pond was the perfect size to fish, swim and paddleboard on. We rented the 4 person paddle boat, which the kids used daily. The owners (who were very easy to communicate with) thoughtfully outfitted the space- from extra towels and laundry detergent to a giant deck umbrella and a big grill; we did not want for anything. Embden is a quiet spot, which is why we chose it. When we weren't at the cabin, we filled our week with berry picking in Athens, white water rafting, a waterfall hike, mini golf and the movies. We hit Walmart pick-up and Hannafords to stock up on groceries, but also enjoyed excellent meals out at Rivers Edge Restuarant in Madison, the Biergarten in Skowhegan and Riverside Breakfast and BBQ in Bingham. There is a gas station in Solon (about 10 minutes away)- with a little store, Griswold's, that has breakfast sandwiches, homemade whoopie pies and pizzas. We took the advice of another guest's review and brought a small TV for the living room to watch movies at night after our campfires down by the water. Too easy. Wifi was fast and stable. Sugarloaf is about 45 minutes away, which was a nice drive on a rainy afternoon and Rangeley is a neat lake town to check out on the way back to the cabin (the Loon Lodge has a great Happy Hour menu). All in all, don't miss out on this hidden treasure. Can't wait to return!

Lovely secluded vacation spot

A wonderful spot to get away from it all and enjoy the quiet and beauty of nature. We cooked and grilled most of our meals and the kitchen was VERY well appointed!

Great stay!

The cabin was wonderful. We got lucky with warm May weather and was able to swim, fish, and kayak. Black flies and ticks were bad, but it is a bad year for them. Was hoping the dock would be in, but again, it's May and not normally this warm. Definitely plan to stay again!

Vacation week

The place was great, even better than advertised. The owners have thought of everything. It's well appionted and stocked with all the basics. Brook trout are abundant and delicious caught right in front of the huge windows. Snowmobile trail access at the end of the driveway and easy entry onto lake. We highly recommend and hope to return.

Amazing New Year's Stay!

We really enjoyed our New year's stay! The house is amazing: clean, well-equipped and spacious. The views are breathtaking. We really enjoyed the porch and grounds around the house. We were lucky to have snow during New Years. The pond was frozen and beautiful! The fireplace adds to the cosiness of winter say. We hope to be back this summer and then next winter.

Amazing and peaceful!

It really blew us away. The view is so stunning and it’s just amazing. On the way home my wife said we need to start looking for a lake front property. The kids played on the paddle boat every day. LolThe host was great. Communication was fantastic. The area is safe and quiet with tons of wildlife. I caught a 2lb smallmouth off the dock. Thank you for the awesome experience. I would highly recommend it.

Christmas in Maine!

This is truly a multi season homestead. We were here in the hopes of a White Christmas and Maine delivered. The home was clean and had everything we needed. They took it a step further by not only providing a Christmas tree, but decorating the entire home. We really had a great time and even learned about ice fishing. This location provides access to all that Maine has to offer. no matter the season.

Absolutely fantastic

This is the 4th year in a row I've visited the cabin with friends during the winter season. We keep coming back because it fits our needs perfectly, and the hosts are incredibly accommodating and generous. Whenever we visit, my friends and I feel comfortable, safe, and free to enjoy our long-awaited time off. Any issues that arise have been dealt with swiftly by the hosts. We're already looking forward to next year.

Great cabin in an idyllic setting

This is a wonderful place - the cabin is well-designed, comfortable and has everything you need for a great stay (including homemade pancake mix and Maine maple syrup!) Sandy Pond is quiet and peaceful, from sunsets to kayaking, with firepit and BBQ added bonuses. The pontoon paddle boat is useful and fun -- makes a great platform to swim from and also to explore the lake for those who don't wish to kayak. Great trail hiking nearby, including waterfalls, mountains, and rails-to-trails paths. Joanna was really helpful in managing questions and answering any and all questions. Couldn't have been any better!

July 4th vacation

We had such a wonderful time at the Hideaway! My husband, 2 children, sister, nephew and mother all fit comfortably and had so much fun. The place was immaculate felt like home. Despite the rainy start to our week, we spent each day paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing and made lots of use of the pontoon paddle boat. We even had a visit from the giant turtle that lives in the pond— she was truly amazing to see! Joanna was very responsive and we had no complaints at all. We hope to be back be back again!

very relaxing, beautiful cabin

We had a wonderful time at the cabin, it was very clean and well equipped. We even were able to get out ice fishing and caught some nice yellow perch, Joann was there to welcome us upon arrival and went out of her way to make sure our stay was pleasant. The only thing I might suggest is that they bring in WiFi or some sort of tv when we are there it was winter, the land line was down, the cell service is very spotty so we felt a little out of touch which is nice to an extent but a little nerve wracking in the event of an emergency. Other than that everything was prefect. We would definately return ;)

Amanda, we are so pleased that you and your family had a pleasant winter retreat at the cabin. My husband Andrew and I take pride in offering superior quality accommodations that are comfortable and safe. We were equally concerned when we learned that the land line was not functioning properly for your stay. We contacted the local provider immediately and the issue has been resolved. We learned that the issue was caused by a glitch that occurred during an upgrade of the local network. This was the first time in 12 years that we experienced an interruption in our phone service. Regarding the WiFi, we have grappled with the question of adding broadband internet to the cabin for some time. Our intention has been to offer our guests a setting that supports connection with family, friends and nature. We were concerned that our guests would miss these opportunities if they remained "plugged in". That said, we made the decision to add broadband internet with streaming video devices on the TVs in response to guests' requests. We hope that you return to enjoy these new amenities! Great stay!

Just two points we would like to make. Originally, our party was to have three individuals. One cancelled several weeks before. Had we had all three, using one shower would have been challenging. Also, when you charge for linens, the guests should not be responsible for washing them, as we were instructed to do. Also, there was no laundry detergent, so we had to go purchase some.

Quintessential Maine Cabin

The Hideaway is the quintessential Maine cabin on the lake. We have 6 adults in our group for a week and there was plenty of space for everyone. The place was clean, beds were comfortable and the lake was clear. We saw the bald eagle, a crane and the local loons. We spent the days swimming and exploring the lake in pontoon paddle boat. We went to Skowhegan and got fresh live lobsters from Cantrell’s seafood truck and enjoyed a lobster dinner on the deck facing the lake. The area is remote and quiet, with very few people. Even with properties on either side it feels very private and secluded. There is no tv in the living area so we brought one with us for our nightly horror movie. Joanna and Andrew were the perfect hosts and were very responsive to any of our questions. The organic maple syrup, pancake mix and chocolates on each bedside table was such a nice touch! We would recommend the hideaway for anyone who wants comfort and peace and quiet.

Relaxing Stay on Sandy Pond

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hideaway. There were four of us - two adults, a teen and a senior. It is quiet (there are neighbors fairly close on one side but there are thick trees screening the property) and on a lovely pond with very little boating activity (we only heard one motor during our week). The property was very clean and all of the necessary amenities were there. We used the kayaks and enjoyed the pontoon paddle boat (for an extra charge), and my daughter spent time on her paddleboard. The porch is a beautiful place to sit and eat a meal and there is a sun umbrella for shade. We saw lots of wildlife - deer, eagle, osprey, heron, and tons of songbirds. One thing to be aware of is that the three bedrooms are each on a different floor (loft, main floor and walk-out basement) so if you have people who have problems with stairs, this property might not be for you. But the owners were very responsive and helpful when we had an issue, there were games including cornhole, the fire pit was in great repair and the property was perfect for a relaxing getaway. We drove 45 minutes to visit Moxie Falls (worth the trip) and visited Skowhegan (the Bankery is an amazing bakery downtown). Overall, very enjoyable!!

Andrew and Joanna are life long natives of Maine. We take great pride in our log home. Andrew is a master carpenter and general contractor by trade. Together we lovingly built this log home for our family being sure to add all the small touches that make a house a home. We love sharing the home with our guests and hearing about how the setting allows them to enjoy time with their family and friends in peace and quiet.

Our cabin has all the comforts that we have come to rely on and more while maintaining a classic rustic feel (without the sacrifices!). It's far enough "away from it all" to provide our guests with the opportunity to decompress from daily life, yet it is not too far from stores, hospitals and other necessities.
