Eliza's place was so lovely for our family of 3 with a small child! It's a perfect location to relax and also explore midcoast Maine.

The cabin was amazing, the view was unbelievable and we enjoyed every minute of our vacation. The location was great. We went to Camden and Rockland for shopping and coastal meals. I would definitely stay here again and again. It's a true Maine experience and that is coming from someone that was born and raised in Central Maine.

The place was warm and welcoming with lake views that were over the top beautiful! Sitting at the firepit looking at the lake hearing the loons and wolfs howling was timeless.. It rained a few days but gorgeous even then

Great views over the pond!

Wonderful get away spot! Close to Camden and Rockland, an hour from Boothbay. Lots to see and do.

Perfect vacation spot!

We loved every minute of our vacation at this cottage. The pond is crystal clear and we spent hours swimming and boating when the weather was nice. On rainy days, we spent time exploring the beautiful coastal towns. Loved the proximity to Hope General Store and the Sunflour Cookie Shed! We hope to return!

Peaceful and Relaxing

Our stay on Hobbs Ponds was very enjoyable. Great location. Steps away from the pond. Peaceful, comfortable, and close enough to Camden if you desired but far enough to get away from the crowd. Many great sites close by.

Summer vacation!

Beautiful property! Lovely pond! Great fishing! Bald mountain and Ragged mountain hiking trails within a few miles with amazing views. Cottage has it all, even enjoyed a few games of croquet. Loons were very special!

Delightful in every way!

We thoroughly enjoyed the cottage, especially the water views and access! The cottage was very roomy and comfortable. Interacting with the host Eliza was a pleasure both before and during our stay. She went out of her way to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. And we did!!

Lovely stay

Sweet cottage with a homey and inviting atmosphere. Loved canoeing and swimming in the pretty lake and listening to the loons in the evening! The area is a magical place- Hope has a cute town center with a well-stocked general store. The area has plenty of hiking trails, pastoral rolling hills and charming New England homesteads with an abundance of wild lilys dotting the landscape. Only 8 miles to Camden and the oceanfront. We hated to leave!

The Greatest Escape

Nestled right on the water of Hobbs Pond you couldn’t ask for a better retreat if you tried. Eliza was a wonderful host and the cabin offered water activities as well as indoor for the one rainy day we had while there. It was perfect for our family of four and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our time there. The stars at night were something else and calm of the pond at first daylight was a dream. We will be back!

Hobbs pond

Overall good experience. As stated in other reviews the property is next to a public landing which had a fair amount of traffic on weekends and evenings which is why 4/5 on location but certainly not a deal breaker. Otherwise clean and convenient to Camden. Good overall value for the price

A good stay

The cottage is exactly as described and had what we needed. We had a very rainy start to our stay, but the games and books kept everyone entertained. Eliza was very responsive as a host! One thing to note, if you are traveling with any sensitive people (babies, small children or health issues), you will likely want to bring/buy bottled water for drinking. The well water doesn’t taste/smell good. Otherwise we were happy.

Perfect week on the lake!

We had a fantastic week relaxing on Hobbs pond. The cottage is quintessential Maine camp. The kids loved swimming in the pond and our youngest learned to Kayak. My husband and I also swam and kayaked and floated around on the hot days. We had a couple of rainy days and went into Camden and Rockland. The Farnsworth is an awesome museum and the perfect rainy day activity. Eliza was a great host and quickly brought over some blankets when I asked for extras. It’s a lovely camp in a perfect location for a family vacation. Highly Recommend!

The Ultimate Spot for Relaxation

The cottage is lovely and is the perfect size for a getaway. There are gardens hiding little treasures for the observant eye, and the pond and surrounding views are picture perfect. The rental, check-in, and check-out processes were easy, and location in proximity to Camden, Rockland, Rockport, and other mid-coast locations and activities was perfect. It took 15 minutes or less to reach each of our destinations. We sat by the pond and enjoyed our tea each morning and our wine each evening. We prepared all of out dinners on the Webber grill, and we played countless rounds of Scrabble, UNO, and Battleship with the games our host provided. Overall, an excellent vacation. We highly recommend renting this cottage.

The listing says it all - paradise! ⛵️

We just wrapped up our week at Hobbs Pond, we hated to leave! If the terrible review freaks anyone else out before they embark on a 16 hour road trip, and do not have the funds to rent another place, we thought we'd fact check all of those complaints, as we had none! 1. The house/cottage/camp is so quaint and clean. The owner really captured Maine. There is no air conditioning, but there are box fans and the breeze will truly blow you away, it's incredible. 2. Yes WiFi is slow, but it's fine. Did pick up in a few spots in the yard. Our kids brought their PlayStation and never used it. So leave your phone inside and go outside! 3. I'm not sure what bedding the other reviewer is used to, but we had Tommy Hilfiger sheets, comfy quilts and the most comfortable mattress ever! We slept like logs every night. I did bring some extra bedding based on the other review just in case, didn't need it so I laid my quilt in the yard and took a nap. 4. We never got to meet the host, but she seems lovely and everyone we met was so nice. I hope the other review didn't scare her away. 5. There are simple instructions to use the waterfront door, so we did. It was in fact locked, I jiggled the handle myself. The bolt and the door handle locks worked just fine 👍. My husband grew up in Maine, and he agreed this is an authentic Maine "upta camp" experience. I would hate for any family to miss out on this paradise. The only suggestion from our boys was to add a wharf to jump off! 😉

Great place to be stalked by owner

Strangest home rental experience we’ve ever had. We experienced totally unhinged behavior from the owner and neighbor. After arrival, we realized the rental was not for us. Wi-Fi was too slow for us to work, beds and bedding were very old. So we booked another place to stay and planned to use the cottage and pond during the day. On our way to use the house on the first sunny day of our trip, the owner texts us that she is in the house. What the? She showed up to the house without telling us and was inside? The only reason we knew, was that we randomly texted her on our way to the home saying we had booked somewhere to stay but planned to use during the day. She tells us she had someone else come over the night before (again no notice to us) because a nosy neighbor looked in the windows and saw that nobody was there the first two nights. This was a required week rental and owner never asked when we were even checking in. less than 72 hours after check in, 3 people had stopped by the house unannounced and 2 had gone inside. Owner then told us we had “abandoned” the house even though we had taken the key and had left the house EXACTLY the way she left it for us. The lock is broken so you can’t lock the door. She also told us she was renting it to someone else for the rest of the week because it was abandoned. We paid for the entire week. We can come and go as pleased. Super creepy behavior and we felt watched and monitored so we never went back. We reported the owner to VRBO.

I have received all 5 star ratings for the past 4 years except for one, 4 star rating. The week before this stay, my guests left a 5 star review. This renter's review is not factual, but fabricated scenarios, that just did not happen. This person imagined people looking in windows and entering my cottage . No one would ever do so. They never stayed at my cottage. She admits this .This person abandoned my cottage for 4 days with the doors unlocked, curtains open and the lights on all day and night long. This is a lake house. If lights are left on all night it can be seen miles away. My neighbor contacted me 3 days after my guests were to arrive, saying all the lights were on and it appeared my renters did not show up. I texted the renters asking if they arrived and were ok. No response. On the 4th day I texted/phoned again. No response. Worried, I went to check on the cottage and received a text that said they were not staying there as "it didn’t fit their needs.” Shocked and surprised, I said I was sorry to hear that and was there anything I could have done to improve their stay. She replied, with false facts. The internet is not slow, but fast and excellent. The TV she “felt would not be good for evening movies “ Is a Roku with Netflix and Amazon prime subscriptions. The mattresses / bedding are great. They did not sleep there. Finally, the locks work, as it’s important to all guests. Renter became angry, when I contradicted her unsubstantiated findings .

Wonderful visit!

We loved our week at the cottage - Eliza was great to communicate with and left fixings for s’mores, firewood, and fresh flowers! The pond was beautiful and my boys had a blast swimming, kayaking, and fishing off the dock and we loved having fires while watching the beautiful sunsets. Plenty of room in the bedrooms for a pack n play, and the house was well stocked with games and toys for kids. The location is unbeatable being able to enjoy the pond but also being so close to Camden which was totally charming! We also enjoyed walking to the Hope General Store for pizza and treats and going to the playground behind it! Thanks for a great visit! We hope to be back!

A wonderfully relaxing week near Camden on quiet Hobbs Pond

This simple summer camp provided a perfect location for nearby hiking, cycling, visiting local farm-stands, and for exploring the surrounding coastal towns and villages. But we were equally contented to just 'stay put' -- as the comfortable cottage and large, shaded yard at water's edge provided a lovely view and opportunity to observe the loons and other wildlife. The dock and small 'beach' provided easy access for swimming and for use of the kayaks (at shallow end of the Pond). The host was very welcoming and generous!

A wonderful relaxing vacation.

We had a very relaxing vacation. The cottage was so comfortable. The pond offered swimming and kayaking. The area was peaceful. But still close to things we wanted to see and do. Thank you for a fantastic place to spend our week!

Lovely cabin on a beautiful lake

My family loved our week at this special cabin. Some bonuses: the cabin is bigger than it looks in the pictures, one of the bedrooms overlooks the lake, there are two living rooms (we did one for the kids, one for the grown-ups!), the cabin is full of unique touches that make it homey, and the lake is crystal clear. We loved kayaking on the lake and swimming. My younger daughter spent most of her days wading and swimming off the dock, where it is shallow and sandy. Camden is so close for nights out! If you're staying for a full week with your family, I recommend bringing extra towels, washcloths, toilet paper, and paper towels, and BYO coffee, condiments, and cooking oil. The owner was very responsive and helpful!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage! The pond is beautiful and the location was convenient for exploring nearby Camden. The cottage was well stocked with books and games and Eliza was kind enough to provide us with s'more fixings for the firepit.

Great stay on Hobbes Pond!

A classic Maine cottage on a lovely little lake. The kids loved swimming near the dock and paddling in the kayaks. Hope is a great little town and it was lovely to be so close to Camden.

Quiet lakefront property that's great for a family vacation!

We enjoyed a wonderful week on Hobbs Pond and highly recommend this property! The lake is shallow and good for children learning to swim. There are multiple kayaks (including one for kids - our 6yo taught himself how to kayak!) and life vests, a large yard good for yard games and plenty of Adirondack chairs for relaxing, as well as a fire pit for s'mores at the end of the day. We took one "beach day" to go to the ocean, but as another reviewer said, once you've stocked the fridge, you really have all you need right there! Eliza (host) was extremely responsive and helpful. A truly wonderful spot!
