Twyne is a cosy cottage in the heart of rural Kent. Converted stables.

This cottage is in a very peaceful location but close to both Canterbury and Sandwich. The seaside towns of Deal, Margate and Whitstable are also very accessible. So instead of being in the busy tourist locations this is a more relaxing option.

Come and enjoy a stress free time in the cosy cottages in the garden of England. Both the cottages are fully equipped with a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, oven, four-ring hob, microwave, butler sink, iron/board, dryer rack, vacuum cleaner, TV/DVD player, WiFi/broadband internet access. Bed linen and towels are provided.

Enjoy a glass of wine relaxing in the private garden with sun loungers, picnic table, parasol and barbecue. Bicycles are available to borrow at your own risk. One very well behaved pet is allowed. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property.

The cottage is located at the edge of a village which has a
small well stocked shop and excellent butcher. There is also a friendly local pub and excellent Copper's café in a garden nursery. All these walking distance.

Twyne cottage is in the grounds of Hardacre House which was built in the first part of the fifteenth century. Its most famous occupant was John Twyne, the last headmaster of St Augustine’s Abbey school and the first of Kings School in Canterbury after the Dissolution in 1541. He was Alderman, Mayor and MP of Canterbury and even spent time in the Tower of London when he offended King Henry VIII! He married Allice Peper of Hampshire in 1525 and they spent many years in Preston.

Well situated cottage in rural Kent in village.Quit and peaceful but only 30 minutes drive to Kent coast and Canterbury.Nearby attractions such as Grove Ferry with River Stour and historic houses.Host provided a welcome pack which was appreciated.Parking for one car.

Excellent location to tour around

A peaceful haven

Perfect for our needs, lovely village - shop, pub and cafe. Lots of local walks for our dog and close to coast. Warm welcome from owners, very accommodating.

Family vacation in the Garden of England

We received a warm welcome and enjoyed a peaceful and pleasant stay in Hardacre house lodging. Our guests are very nice people. They did their utmost to make us feel like home and gave us tips on where to go shopping and visiting the surroundings.

5 weeks in Preston

A great holiday cottage well equiped, in a peaceful location, 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom small private garden and off street parking we had the pleasure of staying for 5 weeks the owners are lovely and friendly without being intrusive we would stay again at any time of the year.

Country village break

This property is delightful with much character and charm. It is very well equipped indeed and is suitable for a couple or family. The owners are very friendly and helpful and close by in case of any issues. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to revisit.

We had a wonderful holiday in Henrietta's holiday home. Thanks to the proximity to the coast, we enjoyed lovely days swimming as well as sightseeing tours of the various attractions (Dover Castle, etc.). You should definitely become a member of English Heritage to save on admission. The village butcher, which is just a few minutes' walk from the apartment, is also highly recommended. We will definitely be back and can only recommend the apartment.

A real gem.

We stayed with our little dog for two weeks at Twyne Cottage. It is such a lovely homely cottage with everything that you could require and is so peaceful. Henrietta and David made us so welcome and left us bread, butter, eggs, milk and apple juice to get us started which was really appreciated. If you have a dog there is a quiet park a few hundred yards away and an old orchard directly over the road for walking them. The garden centre in the village, a short walk away, serves excellent food and there is a dog friendly pub opposite it. The cottage is perfect for visiting all the nearby seaside towns and Canterbury all within around a thirty minute drive. If you are looking for a peaceful holiday in lovely surroundings with great hosts you will not find any better than Twyne cottage.

Dont Stay at Twyne Cottage

Filthy dirty, not acceptable! We left early as soon as we found other accommodation, the host then cancelled our booking online to stop me adding a review of our awful experience at the cottage. We have photos to prove our awful experience if anyone is interested???

It is very disappointing to read such a negative review. The client was returning to live in the UK from New Zealand and we appreciate this type of move is very stressful. Therefore it is important to be flexible. As the dates confirmed with VRBO were not convenient, we allowed the clients to arrive early. We were surprised when they turned up with 8 cats without notice. Following their arrival, we were advised there was a wasp nest somewhere in the garden and we dealt with it within 24 hours. We are extremely attentive to our clients' needs. And always deal with problems immediately. The clients had been with us for more than 2 weeks, however, while we were away and much to our surprise, they left without any prior warning. We are most distressed to be given such a negative review as this is the very first time it has happened.

Very nice holiday in beautiful surroundings!

We stayed at Henriettas place for a weekend with our two boys, 2 and 6, and we All had a lovely stay. There is everything you bred in the cottage, even toys for the boys, and a lot of interesting places to visit nearby - e.g. Howletts Zoo, Canterbury, Margate with Dreamland and a wonderful beach, and Dover with Dover Castle and the White cliffs. Another great stay!

Back again after a few years. Bigger kids this time, but just as good. David and Henrietta great again. No fuss, no stress, plenty of family time. Best kept secret is the dark skies on clear nights - Milky Way, loads of less bright constellations and meteor showers 😀

Cosy, warm and bright cottage

We stayed in Twyne Cottage for a few weeks whilst awaiting completion of our house purchase. It proved to be a very comfortable, warm and well equipped place in which to spend our time and from which to explore the area around us. It is exceptionally peaceful and also has a lovely little garden to enjoy in the warmer weather. Henrietta and David, our hosts could not have been more welcoming, flexible and helpful. Preston has a great village shop, butchers pub and garden centre with lovely cafe/restaurant. Wingham, just a short drive away has more shops and facilities and the local farm shop is one of the best around. There are great walks straight from the cottage, ideal if you have a dog, plus more within easy driving distance. Those around nearby Goodnestone in particular.

Lovely Location

Twyne Cottage is in a lovely location. You can take a very short walk to the pub, garden centre (with lovely Coppers Bistro for breakfast, cakes and dinner). There is also a small village shop. Our boys loved the local park just next door, where we could throw the frisbee and play cricket. Also local walks available straight from the cottage. Lot to do within 20/30mins drive. We went to Howletts Zoo, Dover Castle, Whistable, Deal, Sandwich, Joss Bay and Broadstairs! Nice little garden for BBQ's and enjoying the sunshine. Henreitta was a welcoming host with lots of local knowledge. We had a lovely break in Kent.

Lovely half term break

We really enjoyed our stay. lovely gite in a peaceful setting. Lots of wildlife around. Great for our kids having the playing field nearby and meadow over the road for picnics. Wonderful location in one of the most remote corners of Kent. Friendly and helpful hosts.

Fabulous Rural Retreat

Beautiful period cottage in lovely rural Kent, a short drive will get you to the coast and Canterbury. Lovely private garden for relaxing which included BBQ and outdoor seating. Henrietta and her husband could not have been more helpful and friendly.

Lovely family break

We had a lovely stay at Twine cottage. It's a comfortable place to finish some last minute work tasks while the children get some down time. The location is perfect for discovering Kent and its beautiful beaches, castles and zoos. Even with Corona restrictions it was a real holiday.

Fantastic Cottage, Close To Everything!

I booked Tawney Cottage for me a a few colleagues who were working in the local area. Henrietta came back in moments with the answers to a few questions I had and was very clear in her answers. The cottage is in a village called Preston which is 15 minutes from Manston Airport. It is tucked away and quiet, but close enough to Ramsgate, Canterbury e.t.c. at the same time. When I arrived (at short notice) Henrietta was there and showed me around the cottage and explained everything. The cottage has a main bedroom and a side room with bunk beds and it is all on one floor. There is a kitchen, dining area and a shower/toilet room opposite the side bedroom. The main bedroom has it's own en-suite. The cottage is well decorated and equipped throughout with Dishwasher, Washer/Dryer, Fridge .e.t.c . There is fast wifi and freeview TV. It is comfortable, homely and well decorated. There is off-road parking as well. Perfect cottage for us and we felt very welcome. Thank you Henrietta and David, I will be sure to return if I am in the area again.

David and Henrietta have been living at Hardacre House for 5 years. They were married 8 years ago and have decided to move full time to "The Garden of England".

They running courses for foreign adults and younger students who want to improve their English in the main house and offer 2 self catering cottages which are adjacent to the main house.

David has lived in Kent and London most of his life and loves gardening, playing tennis, walking and biking. Henrietta has lived in France and Chile and also loves an active outdoor life much the same as David! They both love travelling and have visited Egypt, Morocco, Tanzania, India and many lovely places in Europe including France, Italy and Spain. We both speak French and Henrietta speaks Spanish too.

They very much enjoy the theatre and there is a great one in Canterbury called "The Marlowe Theatre". When they have time and at the end of the day they enjoy having a good read but usually fall asleep with the book.

They both enjoy good food but most of all using their local products. They are eager to have a good kitchen garden which they are both working on.

They would love to share their beautiful garden which is in a very tranquil spot and an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are beautiful walks along many footpaths around the village and they are close to the sea side with a good choice of different types of beaches. They are also very close to Canterbury with its stunning cathedral and walled city and many other interesting historical sites including two "Cinques Port" towns of Sandwich and Dover, and Richborough Castle. There are the various golf courses in and around Sandwich, with Margate and Ramsgate also close at hand.
They would very much enjoy to welcome you to their home and share some of the secrets of Hidden Kent which they can reveal to our guests when they come and visit.
