A unique experience, and a privilege to stay there.

Being able (and trusted) to appreciate Hougoumont, its setting, and its history on my own, when the other visitors had left. I was using it also as a base to walk the battleground extensively, and it was ideal for that.

It was absolutely mind-blowing!!

Any one who has even the least passing knowledge of Waterloo will know about Hougoumont. To be able to actually stay overnight in such a historically significant building was just incredible! I still can't believe we got to do it!!

An honour to have this wonderful peaceful to ourselves

The historic significance is off the scale. The apartment itself has been tastefully renovated,the ambiance is of complete stillness and peace. To be here at sunset and walk up the ridge to the allied line and overlook the battlefield gives one a feeling of awe and gratitude. Being able to meditate on the nature of bravery and sacrifice or just to read a book quietly on the seat beside the chapel when everyone has gone is a privilege. The AI event is superior to the museum,20 mins walk to centre

This is the only place to stay for a Waterloo battlefield tour.

The location is everything. There are restaurants near by, but we elected for self-catering, which gave us more freedom and time to investigate the locations associated with the Waterloo campaign.

The entire experience and spending a night at Hougoumont was unbelievable. It was fantastic.

The farmhouse was amazing. To have the entire house to yourself was a real experience of a lifetime. Being able to go out in the courtyard and/or walk to the museum and restaurant was a bonus. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Cedric. We booked and travelled from Australia and would recommend the experience to everyone. It is a must.

Studying history in comfort

Having studied the Battle of Waterloo for may years to have the opportunity to stay in this historic place was truly great. We were very impressed with the facilities of the gite, everything was of a very high standard.

A comfortable though quirky gite in a very historic setting.

We specifically booked the Hougoumont gite because of the building's involvement in the Battle of Waterloo and we stayed there over the anniversary of the battle so to have the place to ourselves after closing time was, because of my life-long interest in the Napoleonic era, a very special experience.

Historically amazing and very private

The location and apartment has an unbelievable significance to the history of the Battle of Waterloo. Anyone who is a history buff would be thrilled to be able to stay there and surround themselves in this location. Beautifully staged, very quiet and comfy to relax and visit.

Staying at Hougoumont was a long held ambition four our group and it was not a disappointment. The accommodation was a perfect base for a full tour of the Waterloo battlefield. For us being able to stay in such a historic setting was an honour. I would highly recommend it.

Lovely venue.

Fabulous place to stay in the midst of a very historic site. Quiet once all the visitors are gone except for the occasional camper. Comfortable beds/mattresses Kitchen reasonably equipped with fabulous cookware. All very clean and tidy. Wonderful restaurant available walking distance away 10 minutes thru footpaths in fields. EV charging points also available in same town.

What an incredible experience staying in this place where history was made. From A to Z, a great stay. Very helpful communication prior to arrival. Excellent facilities, very comfortable. The welcome basket was very much appreciated too. An experience that will stay in our memories forever!

Excellent all around

Well, what not to like ? You have the location, the ability to enjoy the farm outside of visitors access. Lot of space, complete kitchen, great beds, atmosphere... Just wonderfull. On site staff service is limited but that goes with the territory.

The uniqueness of the place. The kitchen was very well equipped. However, I missed having a hairdryer. Otherwise, everything was perfect.

History Alive!

Fabulous place to stay in Waterloo (near Brussels) with east access to the highway. The house is an updated (read completely modern) apartment on the original farm from the battle of Waterloo. A short walk to the Lion and museum, beautiful sunrises and sets over fields. The apartment was perfect for a family of 5! Thank you for a memorable stay! Great place to come home to and unwind after visiting the sights of Belgium.
