A glorious historic 15th century Tower, with modern luxuries added...

Authentic medieval mini castle with roaring log fires and all modern comforts. In beautiful countryside on the River Tweed. Ideal for exploring the Scottish Borders. Biking at Glentress 5 minutes; Edinburgh 45 minutes; Peebles nearby. Heavenly walks. If Barns Tower happens to be booked when you want to stay, we do have two other luxurious properties right next door at Barns Library (sleeps 4) and Barns Bothy (sleeps 2), both available through VRBO
The space
Enjoy staying in a cosy, romantic miniature castle with all the luxuries of the 21st century. There is a luxurious double bed on the top floor and a possible 2 extra single beds in the Sitting Room.
Guest access
Linen, towels, heating and firewood are included, as well as wifi and a selection of Highland Soap Company toiletries. It is possible to arrange a private visit to Neidpath Castle if you should wish.
Other things to note
The Tower is ancient with open fires and fairly steep stairs, so not very convenient for small children or those unable to walk.

Lovely Place

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the tower. The accommodation had everything we needed and the location is a dream for wild swimming / dooking and walks. We would highly recommend this place!

The most beautiful property I have EVER stayed in!

Truly magical stay at Barns Tower. Couldn't believe we had the priviledge of staying somewhere SO OLD (1488 above the door) Everything was provided, it was warm & cosy, copious firewood & hot water. Beds super comfy, bedding luxurious. Found the secret swimming spot in the River Tweed. We didn't have transport but worked out how to walk in & out of Peebles through countryside. It's spoiled me for staying anywhere else. We will definitely be back!

Amazing stay - wonderful property

Wow, what an amazing place! So unusual, with so much history - the details of the history of the property and renovation in the kitchen were much appreciated and fascinating to read through. Everything was well-stocked (an addition of cooking oil would be great) and we wanted for nothing. The tower itself had loads of quirks and great features - the huge bed and lovely bath upstairs was great, a real treat. Grounds were lovely to walk around and the hand-drawn map pointed out a great swimming spot! Can't wait to come back another time, maybe around Christmas as it would be a fabulous place to cosy up in wintertime. Thanks so much for having us!

Pretty nearly perfect!

You feel like the owners really care and have thought about what a visitor actually wants. Beautifully designed, clean, quirky and fun. All you need to light a fire but heaters if you need a boost (we even found hot water bottles!). Eggs, milk, butter etc. waiting in the fridge and all kitchen equipment clean. It's your own little castle!

An incredible house in a beautiful area.

We had a 3 night stay in Barns Tower for my husbands birthday. It's a magical place beautifully restored, comfortable without losing charm. Its was -2°c on our first night but the tower was surprisingly warm day and night. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed is comfortable and the shower in the boot room is hot and powerful. There are some lovely walks from the tower and the pleasant walk into Peebles with its many cafés, pubs and shops took just over an hour. I'm sure we'll return for our next 'big' birthday celebration.

Unique stay in beautiful surroundings

This was a one-of-a-kind experience! A very unique place to stay with modern conveniences. We very much enjoyed our time there.

Unique place to stay in a great location.

Really unique memorable holiday place to stay, The Tower was totally as advertised, perhaps even better, great fun for a few days away. Lovely location with the most beautiful walk along the Tweed into Peebles and back. The Tower was cosy, lots of stairs of course, plenty or room for 2 plus 2 dogs. Loads of wood included for fires.

Was an experience. Great I must say with one exception the stairs but as we are over 70 expected. The whole experience was brilliant everything was there to enjoy full kitchen to good shower and excellent wifi a must these days overall a brilliant place

Absolutely awesome experience. Beautiful place. We walked into Peebles along River Tweed and through half-mile tunnel. It was fantastic. Grounds were beautiful as well! Well worth it!

Lovely stay at the characterful tower.

We stayed for 3 nights in Barns Tower. Lulu was very welcoming, attentive and the tower was well supplied with quality items. The grounds are stunning with the river tweed close by for evening walks. Can’t wait to go back.

Perfect for the imperfections

This is our second stay at Barns Tower and our first Christmas. There’s no words to describe how fantastic it is, the history, location and furnishings, it’s just perfect. The imperfections are the signs of its history, the lost stains above the fireplace, the marks on the limewash. The only thing that is truly terrible about Barns Tower is leaving it to go home.

Wonderful, unique place to stay

Barns Tower is one of the most interesting places we have stayed. A great sense of history in this unique tower. We enjoyed every room in the tower. Very cozy and relaxing. Well set up and a nice welcome package to arrive to. Thanks for a great place to stay.

Totally beautiful

This is such a wonderful place. It is totally beautiful in every way. The design is stunning, a perfect balance maintaining the feel of the original character of the place whilst also having the comfort of all the modcons! A lot of flight of stairs so probably not ideal for the very young or elderly but perfect for everyone else! Also wonderful walks from the Tower.

Barn’s Tower Experience

We can’t say enough about this incredibly special place. We found the history of the tower and the surrounding area so intriguing. The recommended walk along the Tweed River and the nearby arboretum were beautiful. Make sure to stay at least a couple nights.

The stay in Barns Tower was amazing. It is an unique, true tower building. The place was very clean, supplied well, and well kept. We also completed the Neidpath Castle tour with Lulu, and it was a must see tour. We were very happy with our stay there. Vic and Jen, Kansas, USA

Peebles Paradise

Amazing property located just outside of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. A carefully and tastefully restoration of a historic tower, a must stay if you are looking for something unique! Our host was communicative and attentive. An overall amazing experience and we’ll be sure to come back again!

Perfect secret hideaway!

We absolutely loved staying in the Barnes Tower! The decor was charming and comfortable, the bed was amazing and the location was gorgeous. It was fantastic to walk out the door onto the choice of wonderful walking trails whenever we wanted. The breakfast provisions provided for us were a welcome surprise as we never wanted to leave the tower to go into town. It was so peaceful and quiet and private, just a perfect retreat.

Three night stay in a castle

Three night stay in Barns Tower was amazing. It had everything we could wish for for an atmospheric stay over Halloween. We especially loved the big wood burning fires in both the kitchen and sitting room and we made good use of both. Exceptionally clean, with lovely walks in the surrounding area. We just can’t wait to return. Very cosy indeed

Fabulous stay

Beautiful tower in a lovely, quiet location. The tower was everything we could have hoped for and more! Clean, very well equipped and thoughtful touches of milk, eggs, bread and butter supplied. Comfortable bed, good shower and bath. Thoughtfully renovated. Just perfect.
