Thank you for your kind review of the house. For the benefit of other guests, the property is split into a house and a flat. If you hire them both, the second set of crockery and batterie de cuisine etc. is in the flat kitchen. I am glad you muddled through - I only hope you discovered the second kitchen! On the dishwasher tablets, I apologise: our housekeeping was at fault here. We usually provide a starter pack of dishwasher and washing machine tablets, firelighters, kindling and logs etc. so you have some until you can go to the shop. The property (as per the listing and your description) is not centrally heated but relies on an oil-fired Rayburn (which keeps the kitchen and rear bedroom and bathrooms above toasty warm) and on log fires and/or storage heaters elsewhere. The kitchen would have been warm because the Rayburn would have been on when you arrived late from London (it is great for leaning back on and warming the bum!) but the storage heaters store heat overnight and release it during the day so the sitting room heater would have been at its nadir at that time. I am glad you discovered how quickly lighting the fire warms it up. As for your less generous review of our check-out procedure, I accepted your explanation of the soiling at face value and made no further comment or deduction so I am disappointed you have chosen to rake over these coals in your review. We expect guests to leave the house in the state they were given it (other than minor breakages of glasses or crockery) and your deposit is caution money against your not keeping this bargain. For the benefit of guests with allergies, we told you dogs must stay in the kitchen. Since you have revived "the drama" of my casting aspersions on your dog (because our housekeeper could not believe a human would do that to a sofa), my only question - which I was too dumbfounded to ask at the time - is that, given the throw was so soiled *and* it was so trivial to wash, why didn't one of you wash it? If you were nervous of the washing instructions or did not have time to run it through the wash before you left, one of you could have rung me or left a note of apology. Instead, you left it soiled, without a word, and took exception to my asking later how it got that way and if your dog had been on it. On reflection, I don't know which is stranger, that you are outraged on behalf of your dog but shameless about your party being so slovenly, or that I accepted the slovenliness without charge....
