Stunning

We have just returned from a wonderful week away at Abbotsway Cottage. Orroland is truly magical, from the wildlife to the walks around the expansive grounds and the beach, it really felt like we were away from it all. Really didn’t want to leave. The cottage itself is perfect, fully equipped with everything you might need and was spotless. We will look to return again soon.

Abbotsway September mini break

My mother and I spent 3 nights at Abbotsway in September. It suited her perfectly being all on the ground floor. We both loved the layout, decor and all the little touches that made such a welcoming stay. We saw deer, hares and a red squirrel from the windows. It was tempting not to leave for the day lest you miss something. But there are many things to do and see nearby too. A special mention of the superb dark skies location. The stars and milky way from the courtyard were incredible. We just loved Orroland and hope very much to return.

Perfect

Gorgeous cottage, very comfortable and decorated beautifully. Enclosed courtyard is perfect for the dog and patio is a lovely addition. Hosts are fantastic, so welcoming. Grounds are beautiful and we love walking round them. We saw hares, deer, red squirrels, a badger and numerous birds including pheasants, partridges and red kites. Absolutely perfect. 10/10

Thank you for such a fantastic 10/10 review! We are so pleased that you enjoyed returning to Abbotsway and that the enclosed courtyard and patio gave you a sunny spot for relaxing and your dog a secure space to enjoy the fresh coastal air. To spot a badger and red kites alongside our resident red squirrels and deer is a truly remarkable wildlife list for one stay! It was an absolute pleasure chatting with you, and we look forward to welcoming you back for your winter warmer visit later in the year.

Felt right at home

We felt at home the moment we walked in Abbotsway. It was comfortable and cosy with everything you could need for a great stay. Everything was super clean and tidy. The grounds were so well tended and the walk through the gardens to the shoreline a real treat with red squirrels, hares, deer and birdlife around. Location was great and good information provided for exploring the area with coastline and forests nearby.

Everything that we wanted in a holiday cottage. A warm welcome, comfortable cottage and in beautiful surroundings. What better place to relax. Great hospitality.

What a great review of your stay at Abbotsway Cottage. I'm thrilled you found Orroland such a welcoming and peaceful place to stay for your spring bird watching break. I was so pleased that you were able to spot our resident partridge wandering the estate and able to tick them off your list of birds to find. As you have seen, Orroland is thriving with feathered friends from pheasant and partridge to buzzards, owls and a kestrel. It was lovely to hear that you were able to visit some of the beautiful areas that Dumfries and Galloway has to offer and spotted the red kites in their natural habitat. Thank you for leaving the cottage so immaculately on your departure, we really appreciate it. A warm welcome awaits here at Orroland if you choose to come and stay again.

A Relaxing Break

We stayed here with our reactive dog and we had a great time. Lots of wildlife to watch from the windows, access to long walks and a house that was a home away from home. Such a peaceful and quiet location and so picturesque! We will be definitely be back.

Delightful cottage in peaceful spot

Abbotsway Cottage is comfortable, spotlessly clean and thoughtfully equipped. The location is great, quiet and tranquil yet within reach of a wonderful community shop/cafe at Auchencairn and the lovely town of Kirkcudbright. We enjoyed nature on our doorstep and cosy evenings by the woodburner after days out. I couldn't fault anything. Thank you.

our stay in bonny Scotland

we enjoyed our stay in a lovely location in a very well equipped cottage. The wood burner was a added bonus as after a nice day sight seeing it was nice to put our feet up in front of a warm crackling fire and read a book or watch television. Our hosts thought of every thing and we received a warm welcome on arrival. I would definitely recommend it to others

Peace and quiet in a rural setting

A lovely, quite spacious cottage with a safe enclosed courtyard for our dogs. Wildlife to see out of the windows such as deer, hares, pheasants, kites, buzzards and squirrels. The gardens, a ten minute walk away, were an added bonus. We will return, perhaps to the cottage by the gardens next time. A very enjoyable stay.

Review

Very enjoyable, despite last day weather ! V well equipped, v clean, great location. (a fire glove would help as difficult to just use the tongs with the logs - just a small point, in no way a criticism)
Svar fra VrboOwner den 28. jan. 2025
Thank you for sharing your experience of Orroland. Good idea about the fire glove, I chose some red ones, they're on their way. Storm Eowyn's 87mph winds put us through our paces; I've never been so glad we invested in a state of the art generator. I had to stand right next to it to check it was on, and the house warm, lit and with access to all appliances simultaneously if you chose. Now that's how to enjoy a power cut!

Peaceful

High standard of accomodation from bedding to bathrooms - well equipped kitchen - spotless clean - efficient wood burner - great wildlife from window too! Welcome to walk around the landscaped garden of lake, summer house, wild flower meadow - beautiful & serene - as part of the private estate and access to rocky shore on Solway. Would recommend for a quiet getaway - though local stores only 10 mins away.

Amazing place !

We absolutely loved our stay here , it’s such a magical place I’ve never stayed anywhere quite like it before. The owners have thought of everything, the cottage is so well equipped. It’s super dog friendly, the dogs even get a welcome pack with dogs tags in it such a lovely touch . We shared with friends it was perfect as the bedrooms are in separate wings of the house and having 2 bathrooms was ideal. I will definitely return to Orroland it’s a hidden gem, we always holiday in Dumfries and Galloway and had no idea about this place !
