BlackBerry Barn is just what we needed. Outdoor fun in the snow for me while my husband enjoyed the Olympics inside by the fire. A beautiful haven in a quiet place. I hope to be back in other seasons! It was one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve had. Thank you!

We had a great weekend at the barn. It was so nice to stay in such an old building. They have styled it very well and it was well equipped for us to cook meals. An excellent winter retreat for us. Many thanks- we hope to return again!

Loved all the windows and the fact they all opened easily to let the fresh air in. Excellent kitchen facility VRBO description was accurate. Very rustic but roomy. Do not recommend for older travelers due the stairs and very low toilets also no grab bar in shower.

No Air Conditioner :(

The heat was unbearable. The description did not indicate that there were no AC units at least in the bedrooms. We ended up leaving on Saturday afternoon because we could not spend a 2nd night not being able to sleep because of the high temperature.

Not the best stay.

Upon arrival I noticed a foul odor in the kitchen but could not locate it right away. Also noticed the coffee machine had used coffee in it with the used grinds caked all over the machine. I cleaned it and when I went to place the urn in the dishwasher I realized that’s where the odor was coming from, it had rotten, diced vegetables and other undescribable matter in it with roots growing. I called Sophie and she immediately apologized and refunded the cleaning fee. Unfortunately it got worse, the 3rd night there was a mouse eating our dinner in the kitchen, It was living in the top part of the stove. I caught it with a trap and sent the picture to Sophie, her response was basically “it’s a barn”. Coffee mugs in cupboard with old coffee still in them, mouse droppings throughout kitchen, utensils with hardened substances still on them. Not what to expect for that kind of money. Place has potential, but needs a little investment ie. Replace 1970 toaster, hodgepodge utensils ,pots and pans. In all fairness, Wood burning stove was nice and it’s definitely quiet and relaxing,

When we learned of Scott's complaints, we were concerned and immediately issued a refund for the full cleaning fee, which more than compensated him for the inconvenience. These were minor issues (such as some coffee ground residue in the top of the coffee maker). We brought these issues to the attention of our cleaner, as there were clearly some oversights in the preparation for his arrival and we expect that guests will arrive at a clean house. After check-out he requested an additional refund on top of the hefty cleaning fee refund we had provided which more than compensated him for the issues he encountered. We regret the appearance of a mouse and have done extensive professional remediation over the years to address critters. However, as most homeowners know, with any old building in winter it is impossible to prevent occasional infiltration from time to time, which is why we set traps to catch any unwanted visitors. One of the additional risks of staying at a vacation rental is that we cannot control the choices that a previous guest may have made to leave doors open or otherwise provide avenues for entry, we can only address issues when they arise. It is also unfortunate that Scott did not read other guests' reviews or the check-in information he was provided, as he would have understood that we are not running a hotel with a faux-rustic vibe, but a family run AirBnB that is intentionally quirky and cozy. Scott's statement that our appliances are old is untrue, They are all relatively recent purchases. We regret that Scott's stay was marred by an unfortunate cleaning oversight and the appearance of a mouse. We also regret that he seemed to expect to stay at a rustic barn that also has hotel amenities. If you are looking for a polished rental, this is not it. But if you want a charming, rustic, and unique getaway that is an alternative to cookie-cutter rentals and hotels, we hope that you will give us a try. We are not for everyone but have many guests who return to the barn again and again.

Beautiful Barn!

What a wonderful place to retreat to. Spent two nights, on the tail end of a trip I was taking where I was hiking with my dog. Close enough to my home, allowing my son and one of his cross country buddies to come and run in the area. Perfect for us!

A beautiful barn for a beautiful sister’s weekend!

We four sisters are country girls who all currently live in a city and we were looking forward to a weekend in the country for just us. Blackberry Barn was all we hoped for and more! This converted barn is adorable! We loved the quiet days, nightly campfires, the songbirds, peepers, owls, deer and stars, stars, stars! Blackberry Barn is also comfy with a well stocked kitchen, games, albums and movies for rainy days. If you are looking for rustic & charming, this is the place !

Peaceful and calming barn retreat!

I’ve stayed here a few times and every time has been perfect. So peaceful and calm. I recommend hiking to the frozen waterfalls in the area. A great getaway from the city!

Perfect friend getaway

We love this place and keep Coming back. This barn is perfect for a friend retreat. The layout gives everyone a space to be alone as well as hang out as a group. It’s absolutely wonderful.

Perfect October getaway

Cozy, rustic, charming. Kitchen very well stocked— even EVOO and various spices and condiments. Lots of windows with woodland views. Neighbors are nearby but you can’t see them so there is the illusion that you’re in the wilderness. We had a great time hiking in the various parks in the area. Only reservation— there are a lot of steep stairs (even to access the first floor bathroom) so definitely not for the mobility challenged.

Pure magic!

As soon as we walked into the Barn we felt at home. We loved the record and movie Collection. The barn was so clean and I Highly recommend taking a shower in the dark with the hallway light on. It illuminates the gorgeous stain glass windows in the bathroom.. so peaceful. Very close to Lake Minnewaska park where we hiked daily. The fire pit was our nightly meeting place and wind down spot. We already booked another weekend here. It’s perfect!

Black Berry Barn

This was a wonderful property--comfortable place in a lovely area. We particularly enjoyed sitting outside near the pond. The information we were sent was thorough and included many good suggestions for things to do in the area. Could have used some washcloths and soap in the shower but otherwise, we had everything we needed and enjoyed our stay.

Loved this cozy spot

The Blackberry Barn was the perfect mix of rustic, cozy, clean and aesthetically pleasing. The fireplace, turntable, loft levels and stained glass windows give this space a feeling of home, comfort, play and creative whimsy. Rachel and Sophie were easy to commuicate with and the 'check in' process was easy and seamless. Thanks for a wonderful week.

Glorious Escape!

Spent a week at Blackberry Barn, and we all cried when we had to leave!! Being city dwellers, and having been stuck in our tiny apartments since March- this was a much needed respite. The barn is super comfortable and homey. Yes, there are critters (it's a BARN), but who cares. We had everything we needed to cook every night. The beds are comfortable, fans everywhere, killer VHS & record collection. It is super close to a lot of fabulous swimming holes (Washing Machine was our favorite), and the Citgo on the corner literally has everything you need by way of essentials: beer, water, TP, charcoal. My dog loved running in the yard, and we saw a ton of wildlife: rabbits, frogs, deer, A BEAR! Unfortunately I can't comment on the pond or canoe- the pond was so full of algae we decided just to have bonfires and chill next to the barn when we weren't out exploring. I would highly recommend Blackberry Barn if you're looking for a rustic, yet comfortable, and private place to relax in. I know I'll be returning :)

Valentines/Presidents Weekend

Couldn't have asked for more, it worked out perfectly. Short drive from NYC (~2 hrs), big comfortable kitchen, warm fireplace, and record player complemented the reading, board games, painting, and just relaxing. Quiet place up in the mountains. You would have to drive to hike/do anything outside the residence, but we didn't need to leave.

This property has been in our family since 1972. When our family bought the Barn it was literally a barn. All the renovations were done by our parents in the 1970s; our father is a carpenter and did all the work himself. We spent summers and weekends at the Barn growing up, and now bring our own children there! Antique stained glass windows have been installed in the lofted second floor, and were all salvaged from brownstones in Harlem and Park Slope in the 1970s and the huge fireplace was hand built by a local artist.

We have been renting Blackberry Barn to guests on a short term basis for many years now and many people have made the Barn a part of their own traditions. We welcome you to come spend some time at the barn! Its a special spot and we are sure you'll leave relaxed and rejuvenated!
