In our 12 years of owning and managing our vacation rental homes, this is only the 4th time that we've withheld a portion of a security deposit. This group left the house in absolutely horrible condition. When our lead housekeeper arrived at the house, she called us immediately and said it was the first time she ever felt like quitting - the condition was that bad. We told our housekeeper to charge us twice her regular cleaning fee to compensate her for dealing with such a nasty mess. We sent to guest Deividas numerous photos documenting everything that was in violation of their rental agreement. Here's a partial list of how they left our vacation home: 1) Dog feces on the lake deck 2) Dog feces and urination on the front deck, and dog feces on the lawn. 3) Vomit on a bed sheet, which was rolled up and hidden under a bed. 4) Big mess of spilled food caked on a cooktop. 5) Spilled mess left in a refrigerator. 6) Trash left throughout the entire house, including soiled baby diapers, filthy ashtray on the deck and cigarette butts on the ground. 7) They used the firewood shed as a giant trash receptacle, with beer cans and all sorts of garbage spilling out of the firewood storage barrels - that are not to be used for trash. 8) A four wheeler was operated on lawn leaving tracks, which is strictly prohibited per the rental agreement. 9) Upon departing they did not set the house alarm, they left multiple doors unlocked - and they took the door key. We had to scramble to purchase and have new door handles and deadbolts installed. 10) Upon departing they left numerous windows unlocked -- and left open - in the middle of winter. The house sat unlocked, no alarm set, with windows open - for more than 24 hours. We had even extended - at no charge - a 3-hour late departure time Extremely disappointing, and disrespectful.
