This was our second time staying here and it did not disappoint! The house is amazing, and you can't beat the property and location. Gene is a great host, and we've been honored that he has shared his home with us (and others). The family artwork on the walls makes it so much more endearing-you can feel the history and love in this home. It's a special place. Nearby musts: Claws in Rockland, The Causeway/Clark Island, Beech Nut Preserve, Camden State Park, Rockport Harbor, Birch Point. We highly recommend this place!

The property's location is unparalleled. Gorgeous views straight out into the center of the harbor, dotted with fishing boats at a distance, and a wonderful changing landscape as the tides come in and out. The house is well-stocked, and there are more than enough appliances to suit a variety of cooking needs. We did have access to only two bedrooms, but that ended up being fine with us, since two were a couple and the third had their own room. Absolutely loved the lobster shack just a mile down the road. Sleepy, quiet, and beautiful location in a lovely community.

I would give the setting 10 stars out of five if I could, really beautiful location and property. We had a wonderful time. Watching the tides come in and out was such a calming joy.

My family and I had a great stay at this wonderful property. The glowing reviews are all very well-founded. The pictures don't fully capture the rustic charm of the interior and the splendor of the views. The VRBO amenities list "laundry" - but be mindful that it only includes a dryer, not washer. We experienced a bit of a heat wave during our stay, but the breeze through screened, open windows helped keep us cool. The house is well-stocked (kitchen items and spices, as well as towels, etc.). The lot is super private - which was nice when using the outdoor shower, a bit less tight than the indoor one. We look forward to returning soon!

While there were sites and activities nearby, nothing could compare with the absolutely stunning views at this property. We enjoyed the beauty, quiet, both sunrises and sunsets, and a million stars at night. The house was well-appointed and cozy. The beds were comfortable.

Quintessential Maine View

Can't beat this location and view! The house was well-stocked, clean, quiet and beautifully landscaped, offering varying outside seating options. Bonus is having one of Maine's best lobster shacks, McLoons, 1 mile away on Spruce Head.

Location was awesome. Property is just perfect.

Overall, the property is as described, comfortable clean, very well supplied with all you need. Host provides you with great info on area. Our only comment would be if you plan your trip, make sure the area is open. We found going before Memorial Day that all stores and restaurants were not open every day. We will certainly look at going back AFTER Memorial Day

Just wonderful

Stay in October was just beautiful. Listing is accurate with everything you need in a kitchen as far as pot, dishes, and tons of utensils and pans. Quite and cozy, plus million dollar views. Communication with property owners was the best we’ve ever had. Owner even reached out to us to make sure everything was okay and answer any questions we had. Nice touch! Should have booked two weeks. Tons of sights in the area, museums and shopping in quaint towns. AND did I mention the lobsters??!!

Beautiful view

The yard at this house can’t be beat, especially if you have little ones that need to run and play! It’s huge, and the view is spectacular. Notice there is no washing machine in the listing. Also, all of the beds are incredibly soft, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference. For someone with back issues, it may be a problem. The house was clean, and everything that we needed was there. Gene was responsive and helpful, and the lobster shack down the street was the best we’ve ever had in all of our trips to Maine!

A special place beyond our expectations

Every year my wife and I do a weeklong end of summer rental with our moms. Thanks to the Goodman, this was our best trip yet! We are so grateful to have found this special home. We trusted the positive reviews when booking, however reality exceeded even our highest of expectations. This property is that quintessential Maine lobster village experience we had hoped for - it felt at times as if we were in a Norman Rockwell painting! The Goodman’s home itself was just amazing! The huge front yard overlooks a rocky beach with a million dollar view of the evening’s sunset and were we enjoyed nights of star gazing. The interior was exceptionally clean with modern amenities, strong internet, and with all the comforts of home. It just felt authentic, like staying at a friends home that they actually use - and not repurposed as a rental. On the property sits two beautiful apple trees where we harvested and baked a pie. My mother in law is an avid herbalist and spent any of hours wondering the property’s wild varieties of plants and herbs. There were days where we did not have a need to leave the property because there was just so much to do within its boundaries. This is easily one of the most thoughtfully landscaped homes I have rented, it gives you a sense of seclusion and being back in touch with nature. We are so grateful to have come across this special home and the memories it has afforded us to create with our moms. We will absolutely be back next year - and many years to come! Thank you Gene for affording us with this opportunity.

Fantastic views of ocean! Just what we wanted!

Plenty of room for two. Interesting walking and bicycling direct from the property. Nesting ospreys nearby, as well as eagles, cormorants, loons, sea gulls, and ducks, etc. plus numerous song birds on the property. The only drawback was that we had to clean the inside of the refrigerator before we could put our food in it.

Lovely view on busy road

Set right on the water with a stunning ocean view, the house was very clean and the downstairs comfortable. However, the busy road into the island just a few feet from the house and at the beginning of a small bridge made it less than ideal while sitting outside The fact that the bedrooms were upstairs and bathroom downstairs was not mentioned. There was no photo indicating there were stairs. This made it less than ideal for me. Although I did not use the third bedroom and photos were not included, it was above the attached garage, making it a long trek to the one bathroom. Gene was very communicative and answered my questions in a timely manner.

We always welcome guest comments. Yes, the bedrooms are on the 2nd floor and the bathroom is on the 1st floor which is pretty typical. Of course to clarify this, I am changing our listing to reflect these points. While we gladly accept constructive comments, likewise when incorrect information is provided we feel it is important to correct said points. Where the reviewer states that the road is a few feet from the house - well it's actually a minimum of 100 ft away at it's closest point (with a fence and thick wild rose bushes between the house and the road) and 250 ft from where the road meets the bridge.

Peaceful Summer Cottage

We enjoyed every minute of our stay. My kids loved bouldering and beach combing, and even mucking through low tide to the sand bar "island" right off shore. I enjoyed kayaking, and my husband adored McLoon's lobster shack, just up the road. The best part of all was the location of the property. We spent hours in the yard or living room watching the changing tides and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. It was very hard to leave! The house is very well stocked and organized. The kitchen had every tool we needed. The bedrooms were confortable and we loved the outdoor shower too. Be aware that the third bedroom is over the garage. The garage is attached to the house, so it's basically a separate wing of the house (only bathroom is in the main house). If I had young kids, I would probably not want them to stay in the third, bunk room, just because it's separate from everyone else. But my teens and youngest (8) stayed there and were happy to have their own space to spread out. Communication with the hosts was excellent. We really couldn't have asked for a better stay. Hopefully we can return sometime soon!

Lovely Summer Cottage

The description is accurate, the cottage well supplied and the owner was very helpful! The views/location can’t be beat and the local wildlife was a joy to observe. This was a perfect getaway for our family and a great location, near so many sights and great food.

Home sweet home

The owner is very nice/friendly and helpful. The property is lovely. Between the adorable homie house, the gorgeous property, the endless view of the ocean and the lovely area it was exactly what I needed for my week off. With exception of picking up a few supplies, I honestly didnt feel a reason to leave it much. Plenty of sunshine, beautiful cooling breeze, grab my towel, chair, a drink and relax on the sandy area below the property. Definitely want to go back..
