We would like to publicly respond to the review posted by this guest. While most of her party were reasonable individuals that respected our house rules we had particular issue with the guests that stayed in one bedroom. This is the first time we have received this kind of review from the many families that have stayed in our multiple properties. All have been highly satisfied with their stay and the customer service we provide. This home is a spacious, 3000 square foot 1910 Victorian single-family home, not a row home or flop house. We restored this house with much expense and specific care to details including high quality furnishings and finishes as represented by our posted pictures. We ask that guests respect the property and act accordingly during the entire length of their stay and not just at the end. We responded to a call about one doorknob not operating properly and came out two times about the loss of electricity to one bedroom. We responded within one hour to all requests, most response times where within 20 minutes. The doorknobs are Victorian spindle knobs which when newly installed sometimes require re-adjustment. We do not provide locking doors to bathroom and bedrooms because of the chance that a small child could lock themselves in a room and a parent would not be able to get to them quickly. This is a safety issue for that child. We typically rent to multigenerational families that have toddlers. We explained this to the guest when questioned. They pushed the issue and wanted to immediately install locks on doors for their stay. We ask all guests while at the beach or off property for extended periods adjust the AC units to 76F. Since we have window units, rooms that are not occupied during that time can be adjusted and those that still have guests can be maintained at their own comfort level. We do not believe this is an unreasonable “green” request. The electrical service is brand new and we have dedicated circuit breakers for all window air conditioners. The individuals staying in the bedroom that had problems were told on several occasions to not use hairdryers or curling irons on the same electrical outlet as the AC unit or the circuit breaker would trip. They chose to ignore our advice. In addition, the individuals in that bedroom draped multiple clothing items on lampshades causing damage and also hung clothing from newly installed widow blind valences also causing damage. They continued to do this even when we politely requested that they stop and even though we provide full sized dressers and closets with hangers for their use. These individuals even left dirty dishes with old caked on food in a bedside table drawer and dresser drawers upon vacating the premises. There was further damage caused by this party that they did not report; a towel holder had been ripped from the wall causing sheet rock damage that we had to repair promptly in our turn over prior to the other guest arriving. We also found a board split on the front deck which had to be repaired and repainted in a 3 hour window. All communications with these guests were polite and professional. No requests were unreasonable. In response to personal items, these guests left behind multiple items of value in hidden areas (under beds, in drawers, behind chairs), which we have made repeated attempts to return- to no avail.
