The 607 Guest House is a 150+ year-old vintage vacation rental that was once owned by railroad tycoon John Insley Blair. Built in 1867—the same year Iowa's first railroad tracks were laid—this thoughtfully restored home highlights its historic charm, allowing you to immerse yourself in Boone’s rich history while enjoying modern-day conveniences like a heated bathroom floor and zoned central air. After sitting vacant for years, the home has been lovingly brought back to life, with the interior carefully restored to reveal its original beauty. The hosts were fantastic and the property was exactly what we were looking for. They were quick to communicate with us, and even offered us complimentary check in and check out since we drove far and had stormy weather. The house was adorable, super close to the Rail Explorers and not far from the High Trestle Trail Bridge, and we absolutely loved sitting on the front porch. The hosts put a lot of love and effort into making the house and our stay perfect!

Our stay couldn’t have been more perfect. Super clean and comfortable!We loved drinking our morning coffee on the front porch. Living most of our lives in Iowa, we moved to Texas 8 years ago. During our stay, we were able to soak up the beautiful landscaping, trees and the smell of freshly mowed grass when we sat outside. It was very nostalgic! Boone is a great town with lots of restaurants within walking distance of the house. Our stay was one of the highlights of our trip back home to Iowa.

If you are going to Boone, definitely book this place, you will be delighted!! A ladies weekend in Boone. The house was lovely and comfortable for all of us. The house is clean, well appointed, and lots of extras to make your stay even more enjoyable! Quiet neighborhood, lovely porch that we took advantage of in the evenings. Everything is labeled with lots of history of the house and surrounding area. The host supplies goodies and a fine selection of coffee. Any issues, Alison is right on top of things. Great for Boone Railway Experiences

Clean and comfortable property that is walking distance to down town and restaurants in one direction and walking distance to the Boone Scenic Railroad the other way!

Alison is truly personable and made the stay so nice with all her extra touches. She truly cares and wants you to have the best stay. Highly recommend. Also so close to the train.

Beautiful Home

We stayed here while in the area for a family reunion. We really enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean and comfortable with a lot of little extra thoughtful touches like games, candy in dishes, etc. Would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

Current owners, Eric & Alison, bought this property after it had been left vacant for a few years as their first home and have worked on restoring some of its natural beauty, charm and history while incorporating modern day conveniences. The couple formerly from Illinois, raised a family in the home while restoring it until they moved to "newer" Boone home built in 1870. We love the character and charm that "vintage" homes bring and it takes a special person to appreciate the "challenges" that they often present too, but it is rewarding to see History Come Back to Life!

Next to downtown Boone, it's walking distance to many attractions and restaurants including: Boone Scenic Valley Rail Road & Rail Explorers, Boone River Valley Brewing, Downtown Boone, Mamie Eisenhower's Birthplace and a short drive to the Ames and Des Moines areas. If safety is your concern, this friendly neighborhood property is located 5 blocks or 0.3 miles from the Boone Fire Department and located 5 blocks or 0.3 miles from the Boone Police Department.

This is a ONE-OF-A-KIND vacation rental to EXPERIENCE. Formerly owned by Railroad Tycoon, John Insley Blair, this is a 150+ years old home that was built in 1867. The same year the first railroad tracks were laid in Iowa. Immerse your stay in the Boone, Iowa experience with the added artwork, decor and charm themed with Trains, Iowa and the Midwest in this vacation property referred to as the 607 Guest House.

The home’s interior has been restored to bring back some of its natural beauty, charm and history, while incorporating modern day conveniences like a heated bathroom floor and Zoned Central Air Conditioning System. From refinishing the 150+ years old heart pine floors to restoring the interior wood windows with functional weights & pulleys and maintaining the original lead glass window panes, it’s an ongoing process that we will continue to the exterior.
