Updated Gingerbread cottage 100 steps from beach

We are a diverse and inclusive family and are part of a diverse and inclusive community.

PLEASE NOTE: During the school year, we use the cottage as a remote workstation, and it is also available for others to rent as a remote WFH. Please contact us with your school year requests.

We are booking our cottage for the spring, summer, and fall seasons of 2025. If there are dates you are interested in, and those dates appear to be booked, please contact us. It is a family cottage, and our family & friends (and some of our regulars) plans are flexible and can change (some family members also use the cottage for Work-Away-From-Home). There are workspaces with Wi-Fi in the cottage.

Our rates can be flexible for the Sept. to May months. Please note: We rent for up to 25 days maximum during any month.

We continue to follow COVID-19 protocols and keep our check-in and check-out with no contact from us (We follow MA guidelines & requirements for COVID-19 concerns).

Our 1920 cottage in Onset, MA, is in the style of the Vineyard's Gingerbread Cottages and is our beloved work-in-progress. Quiet, friendly, & respectful neighborhood. 100 steps to the neighborhood beach. 5-minute walk to sweet Onset Beach, kayak and canoe rentals, and cruises. (Viking Cruise through the Cape Cod Canal railroad bridge, Bourne and Sagamore Bridges). Seven-minute walk to Onset Village’s restaurants, shops, and post office. Water Wizz (re-opens June https://waterwizz.com/hours/) and other amusements 7-minute drive. Easy access to Boston, the Cape, and RI. Buzzard Bay Park is alongside the Cape Cod Canal for 7 miles to Sandwich Marina. Massachusetts Maritime Academy is nearby. Bike rentals sailworld.com/index.html

Our cottage is insulated/heated and has AC & fans (ceiling and wall). Fully equipped kitchen and outside grill with all you need to cook, and a big country sink and dishwasher to clean up. Large (20 x25) living room and dining room with a large dining room table and piano. The porch (7x 20) has chairs, a breakfast table, and an excellent napping couch. Patio ( 20 x 25) with grill, outdoor tables & chairs, and an outdoor shower. The main downstairs level bedroom (three-stair access) has a bath with a walk-in shower, sitting area, and laundry. Upstairs: two bedrooms, an extra open sleeping area, and a half bath.

What a fantastic place. Quaint village. Close to water and shopping. Great dining within walking distance. The cottage was so homey and relaxing. Beautifully decorated and there was everything you could possibly need. Such a great trip it was. Look forward to next time.

I can't say enough good things about our stay at the Gingerbread Cottage! The pictures are EXACTLY how it looks, which is cute, clean, and comfortable! Nina & David have a lovely property! My husband and I enjoyed the house and nearby Onset Beach. We had a lovely walk to the beach daily. We will defnitely be back!

Clean and cute house

This house is very clean which is the most important part to me. Well equipped kitchen stuffs, a minute walking to the water, close to the restaurant and shopping. We definitely going back the next time we visit Onset.

Wonderful house

We really enjoyed our stay. The location is great, the house is extremely well equipped, and the owners very responsive. The house has lovely details and interesting touches like vintage decorations and even a piano.

Beach getaway

We had a great stay in Onset and enjoyed walking over to the beach and sampling the town's restaurants. The house is well furnished with everything you might need. Nina was very friendly and easy to communicate with!

Perfect get away

Wonderful little gem in Onset MA. Quiet neighborhood within walking distance to small beach. Perfect launching place for wonderful Cape Cod beaches. Property managers very responsive and accommodating. This was our second stay at this property and cannot wait to visit again next year.

Summer month in Onset

We stayed at Nina and Dave’s place for the month of July and had a great experience! The house is a short walk to restaurants/bars, ice cream, and the beach. It was well stocked (especially the kitchen) and if we needed something, Nina was responsive and accommodating. We really enjoyed our time in Onset and would rent from Nina and Dave again.

Great family time by the beach

Fantastic getaway

Wonderful spacious cottage located a short walk to the beach. Nice neighborhood for walking my dogs and the cottage had everything imaginable including a water bowl for the dogs! Warm atmosphere with nice touches including fresh cut flowers on the dining room table right from the garden! Thank you, Nina and Dave for being fantastic hosts and sharing this lovely gem.

This location was perfect for us. Had a fantastic time at the perfect house.

This was a WOW experience for us. The house was elegantly and well furnished with easy to clean materials that made one feel safe in trying times. Everything was clean and well equipped. Loved the patio, English style garden, barely a minute from the beach with outdoor shower and hose to rinse off afterwards. We are hoping to return next year.

Amazing week yet again in Onset

This is the second year we have rented from Nina & Dave and have fallen in love with the home as well as the attentiveness of the owners. We feel at home in their vacation home and plan to make this a yearly trip - we’ve been coming to Onset for close to 15 years and so far this is the perfect rental for us

Great place

This place worked perfectly for us. Our children and 5 grandchildren came for a day, walked to the beach, ate pizza at outside table, played duets on the piano. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could need unless you are a Kuring coffee person....if so this would be your chance to try French Press coffee 😊 Loved everything about this place !

Onset MA

Very well equipped, lovely cottage close to beach and a few minutes from the center of Onset. We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, the games and books, the herb and flower garden, and sitting on the deck. Highly recommended!

Magic at Every Turn

Clean, bright, and bits of magic at ever turn in this sweetheart of a home. A quick walk through the neighborhood to the water and breath taking sunset. Enough indoor and out door space for family games and private times. Thank you for the wonderful escape!

Comfortable Cottage

Home is just as listed and photos show. Nina was very welcoming and communicative with anything that may have been needed (we didn’t need anything, the house is fully stocked/furnished and everything worked great!). My kids enjoyed all the fun decor and we all enjoyed comfortable beds. No A/C as usual for beach homes here but the fans throughout the home kept it a very comfortable temperature! We’d love to stay here again.

AMAZING PLACE TO STAY!

The house is exactly as pictured and described in the listing. Nina was my point of contact and incredibly helpful with the million questions I had. The place had more amenities than could be asked for. The house is beautiful, well decorated, well stocked with essentials, within walking distance of the town and beach. The neighbors were very friendly. If Nina will have us, we will definitely make this our annual vacation spot. Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness!!!

Unexpected hidden jewel!

Wow, wow, wow! My wife and I went for a vacation that is close to our family in MA. We wanted a familiar town (my wife went here as a child) in a pet friendly home. This home was more impressive than the pictures, spacious, closer to the beach than we thought and the thoughtfulness of the decor and amenities were incredible! The neighborhood is so friendly and Nina is an incredible host and welcomed us and our 12 year old Dachshund with open arms. Definitely want to stay here again for all our future visits to the in-laws!

Charming Cottage, Wonderful Vacation!!

Our stay at Nina and Dave's Gingerbread Cottage was absolutely amazing!! From the moment we unlocked the door, we were in Cape Cod heaven!! The kitchen is fully stocked with everything and anything you could possibly think of or need. They even have a popcorn whirley and we used it every night of our stay!! The living/dining area is so comfortable and feels like home!! The master bedroom was bright and sunny and the bed was so comfortable; I usually have trouble sleeping in a bed that is not mine but not here!! I could go on and on about this charming cottage tucked away in the village of Onset, but the jist of it is...our vacation was absolutely amazing, and Nina and Dave's hospitality was nothing short of extraordinary!! We will definitely be back!!

Never Disappoints

We have made our trip to the Cape an annual event for a few years now. We specifically stay at this property. It has easy access to local beaches and for further distant adventures. Very quiet neighborhood within walking distance to a small local beach. Property has everything you need and the hosts are wonderful. Highly recommend.

A charming, magical retreat

We have nothing but high praises for this delightful gingerbread cottage. It had everything we needed to cook, be comfortable and completely relax. The attention paid to numerous whimsical touches elevates it beyond your average cottage. You can feel the lovely vibe as soon as you open the door. The proximity to the cove and the town beach is ideal. Thank you Nina and Dave for creating such a lovely place to be. By the time we left my grandson was well on his way to playing piano, a gift from the hummingbirds and butterflies I am sure! We would love to return next year.

Fantastic experience

We've been making it a family tradition to visit onset year after year and Nina and Dave are wonderful hosts! They think of everything and are incredibly kind and helpful. The house is beautifully taken care of.

Lovely Gingerbread Cottage on Onset

This was our second year in this lovely cottage and we enjoyed every minute of it. It is meticulously decorated and has any kitchen item one would need. We love the location. It is a short walk to a beautiful beach and several wonderful local restaurants. Nina is absolutely a great host and we hope to return next summer! We also appreciate that our poodle is welcomed! Family Vacation

For the past 12 years we have been renting a house for a week in Onset, Ma with our son and his family. We had been renting on Sunset Cove and loved the area. Then Covid hit and we were unable to go in 2020 and the house we rented is no longer available it sold. We searched and found The Gingerbread Cottage. The size of the house was amazing and the owner Nina and Dave were so accommodating. Definitely give this an exceptional rating and recommend this property for a family. Nancy

Vært: Nina and Dave

We are artists and educators and work with youth, elders, and families. We are musicians, artists, tech nerds, and bird, & butterfly lovers (our garden is thankfully always active with these incredible beings!).

We operated a B&B in Maine and had many requests for return visits. While this is not a B&B, we are only an hour away and can easily be at the cottage if you need us or something extra for your visit. We also have a local person who is available. We do not do rental shares. You & your group are the only guests when you are here.

Our cottage is used by our family year ‘round and we rent it out when the family is not using it. We knew before we walked in the front door that this was the cottage for us! We have done a lot of renovation and have loved our eclectic treasure hunt adventures. As artists, we are resourceful and have had a great time turning this cottage into our second/retirement home and your home away from home. We think you will enjoy staying here. Most guests have described it as feeling like home. It's close to so many destinations and Onset is a cozy village that you can walk to.

Location! Onset is a great place to plan day trips from and is a great place to stay. The cottage's proximity to many east coast destinations (the Cape, RI, Newport, Boston, Providence, New Bedford/Fall River, et al) makes this an ideal vacation launching pad. The neighborhood beach is 100 steps away, and Onset Beach & Village is a short 5-minute walk. We fell in love with the front porch and we placed a comfy couch for long summer naps after walking back from the beach. There are great spots to walk to or (short) drive to for eating, listening to summer concerts, and many outside activities. Onset Beach's bathhouse has been converted into the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s new Bay Discovery Center. https://www.savebuzzardsbay.org/about-us/our-centers-reserves/onset-bay-center/ Fireworks, weekly outdoor movies, and concerts, Cape Verdean Festival, Illumination Night...or quiet evenings on the porch...it's a great place.
