The nice high ceilings made the space feel airy and soothing, for the most part. The bedrooms felt welcoming and peaceful. We found the beds and pillows too soft, but this is such a personalized preference, so YMMV. The bathroom is a bit of a tight space; there’s a shelf right above the sink that presents a small challenge, and it’s difficult to dry bath towels properly on the hooks. We just draped them out on the kitchen chairs or used the dryer. The apartment is up steep stairs and the street entrance is also up a few steps so it isn’t easily accessible for people with mobility issues. Depending on one’s feelings about gentrification, the neighbourhood will ‘land’ differently. We liked the many small local businesses and we were lucky to be here during summer when Rue Ontario is closed to cars, and there are interactive art/play installations. There’s clearly a lot of effort to create a welcoming and vibrant community; we also saw more of a police presence than expected, so depending on one’s marginalization, that may create discomfort. There was an unexpected hitch wrt the parking stall & the host was responsive & fair. Overall, we enjoyed what we experienced of the neighbourhood, and though the apartment wasn’t a perfect fit, we appreciated the efforts to make it homey and welcoming.
