Te Henga Hideaway

Our almost new tiny home sits in a private and secluded garden, surrounded by native bush.
We respect your total privacy, but if you are keen to chat, we are always here to talk, and help you out.
Our home ist just 100m up the driveway, just pop in or give us a call. We have no mobile phone reception here, but if you have a more recent phone, you can turn „Wifi Calling“ on your phone, and you will be able to use the 4G network.
There are no neighbours around us, and you are most welcome to explore our short bush walks on the property. Just wander around the bush line and you will find them :). (See photos in Gallery)

We are situated just 2.5km from the very popular Bethells Beach (Te Henga) and 2km from the beautiful Lake Wainamu, featuring the most amazing sand dunes. The perfect destination to stay after your arrival in Auckland, before you are heading North.
Or stay a few more days and explore our other amazing beaches nearby, such as Karekare, Piha or Muriwai, only a 40 minutes drive away.
How about a bush walk in the Waitakere Ranges? It's only 8km away.
Those destinations are making it very attractive to stay a few days longer.

A wonderful, peaceful place to relax and unwind. Hans and Dagmar were fantastic hosts, and their cosy home was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Highly recommended!

Utter Bliss

We really enjoyed our stay here. Hosts were fantastic, very friendly and helpful people. The location is peaceful, we had lots of bird life visiting the trees around the tiny home and made good use of the deck - chicken soup for the soul!

Beautiful Place With Everything You Need

Such a great spot to stay, an amazing view and so close to the beach. Thanks for creating such a warm and welcoming place to visit. The small touches make such a difference. Highly rated.

Quiet, clean, perfect getaway!

I RARELY leave reviews, but this VRBO deserves one! The cleanest VRBO I have ever stayed in! And very thoughtful owners who provided tea, coffee and espresso and even a welcoming fruit and chocolate tray. Very quiet and only 5 minute drive from the beach. It is perfect if you want solitude, nature and beach nearby.

Friendly, clean and relaxing

Property was beautifully and tastefully decorated. Snug on a quiet cosy location. The owners were very respectful of privacy. But always on hand if needed. A lovely place to go back and enjoy.

What a gem!!

Thank you so much for sharing you wonderful tiny home and surrounds with us. We loved every second, and the lightning show the first night was spectacular. We cant wait to come back to this peaceful place again!!

A wonderful, peaceful hideaway - overlooking private garden and bush. 5 minutes drive from Bethell's beach. Kitchen is well stocked to be self contained while there. Loved the opportunity to slide down sand dunes on boogie boards provided at the tiny house. Note: no cellphone coverage at accommodation but wifi calling available. Wifi could be quite slow. Suggest you contact owners - they able to help.

Our passion in life has always been working with people, and we both have a background in education. Later in our life, we have recruited hundreds of German speaking international students into New Zealand high schools. We emigrated from Germany to New Zealand in 1987.
We have always lived in West Auckland, as we love the Waitakere Ranges, the most beautiful place in the wold. That’s what we believe, anyway.
We have lived at Te Henga (Bethells Beach) since 2006 and we love our property, maintaining the house, garden and the surrounding bush. We also enjoy walking to- and along the beach, and hiking in the Waitakere Ranges.
We can assure that you will enjoy your stay with us, and we look forward to meeting you soon.

Te Henga Hideway is especially suited for the nature lovers of you, but if you like the busy city life, restaurants, events or entertainment, Central Auckland is only a 40 minute drive away.

But it's all about nature here, such as:

- Lake Wainamu and the most amazing sand dunes, only 2km away

- Bethells Beach (Te Henga), 2.5km.
This beach, and O’Neil’s beach, to the right across the river, are very popular for surfing.
Bethells beach is a dangerous for swimming, as it is very rough and has a lot of strong undercurrents. So be prepared and respect the force of nature. Lifeguards are present for most of the time during the season.
Do not miss the big cave at the end of the beach, we have put a picture in the Gallery for you.

- Montana Track in the Waitakere Ranges. A must to see, to appreciate our mature, native bush. You will see large Kauri Trees, up to 800 years old. Only 8km away from us.

- Piha Beach and the famous Lion Rock, one of the most taken pictures in New Zealand, 40km away from us.

- Muriwai Beach, also well known for surfing . There you will also see the largest Gannet Colony in New Zealand, 30km

- Karekare Beach and waterfall, 43km.
Te Henga and Karekare are very popular places in the Film industry. You may remember the award winning movie "The Piano". The Piano stood on Karekare Beach.

- Arataki Visitor Center on Scenic Drive. A great source of information about the Waitakere Ranges.
