Character, charm and location! This trip was tricky with one child staying across the river in MD (we needed to pick her up on a couple occasions) and the rest of us wanting to do all sorts of things in and around DC. Heidi’s place afforded us a quick 8 minute car drive to our daughter, and a 2 minute walk to King Street. We took the 15-20 minute walk to the metro stop (King Street. Station), which is on the yellow and blue lines, for easy and quick trips into DC throughout the week. We could also have orchestrated hopping on the free all day trolley or bus that operates. We were grateful to have a comfortable home base, much larger than I’d expected, with everything we needed. The courtyard was a big bonus for our pup and he also loved the walks we took through this beautiful and historic city. Grateful to have found and chosen this one! What a charming stay. Quaint and comfortable

We found the property to be quaint and very comfortable. We can see why some people say it is cluttered, but this adds to the harm of an older property, in our view. The property was well-stocked, clean, and the beds were comfortable. It was perfect for us (two occupants) for accommodation while visiting downtown DC each day.

Great location! As stated on an earlier review, bit tight with regard to space. Suggest to declutter. Also, recommend a more comfortable small sofa for front room. Would stay here again. I don’t recommend any more than a couple stay. There is a single bed but it’s a small twin. There is an air mattress but with the tight spaces, do not see where could set it up.

Heidi made me feel welcome the moment she texted me to provide me with instructions to enter the property. The VRBO is conveniently located from the Metro, dockside, and Old Town, and is in walking distance to many restaurants, historical sights, grocery stores, and shops. The VRBO was just what I was looking for in a place that would remind me of our nation's inception. The house had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to make breakfast each morning before we headed out for the day. I loved being able to come home to a place that actually felt like home. I was able to relax each evening after a busy day of sightseeing. It was a bonus to have great weather and the colors of fall all around us. I absolutely will stay here again when I return. Thanks, Heidi!

Charming House in a Great Location!

This is a very charming old home in Alexandria. Our stay here was homey and relaxing; the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was sufficient for making a few meals. Easy walk to the Waterfront down Prince Street (although I prefer going down Duke), and about a 15 minute walk to Whole Foods, Old Town, Good Restaurants, etc. This house is situated along Route 1, so there is a lot of traffic which I find to be very pleasant. Beware, that being an historic home, the stairs are narrow and the bathrooms are small, however, that worked just fine for me and my parents. Overall, it feels like you are at "Grandma's House" and there is a very nice ice cream shop about 3 minutes away. I recommend getting a pint for your stay!

The overall impression of the property, in a nutshell...Museum. The house is tiny, and the amount of stuff inside doesn't leave you enough space even to turn around. The only modern room in the home is the kitchen, but it was so cluttered that we didn't do any cooking; there was also food left in the refrigerator and freezer. I'm sure people were born and died on those bed frames, and I won't mention the torn mannequins in the bedroom and messy sewing room. The person who decorated was a seamstress and a collector of sewing artifacts that go back to the 1800s. The stairs are narrow and you are sure to bump into the picture as you go up the stairs. It happened to me, and I'm not a big person. The outside of the home was also not well-maintained. This home is old, so I suggest that they declutter, remove the mannequins and old picture frames, as well as the scary sewing room, before relisting. One positive aspect is that the home is located in a great neighborhood with a rich history, shops, and restaurants, and is not far from the harbor. I won't add the pictures I took; you have to trust me.

Communication from the host was exceptional - we felt welcomed before we even reached the property. Proximity to King St was exactly what we hoped for - very convenient for public transportation, restaurants, shops, waterfront, etc. The property is very clean and the beds are super comfortable. We appreciated the standalone home in the midst of connected row houses - no noise from sharing walls with neighbors. The ability to obtain a street parking permit from the host was also a wonderful convenience. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is close to a busy street, but the noise didn't bother us at all. It is an eclectic historic property as others have noted - a bit cluttered, but we found it to be whimsical and added to the charm of the home/neighborhood. The historic nature of the home comes with some features that visitors may like to know ahead of time. The half bath is connected to the bedroom with the twin bed - if you are using both bedrooms, those sleeping in the queen bedroom may need to use the downstairs bathroom while the occupant of the other room is sleeping. The living room furniture is a gorgeous match to the historic home, but not as comfortable for extended lounging. If you're out sightseeing most of the time, that won't matter at all! It does feel a lot like a visit to grandma's house and we enjoyed it very much. We would definitely visit again - thank you for a wonderful stay!
