I would absolutely stay here again. It was perfect for what I was needing, which was rest and recovery. Pet friendly meant I could bring my fur baby without worrying about his care We had a great stay. The one thing that could have been of benefit would be internet service. But there is excellent signal for phone service and I went to sit there with my book' do some diamond art, & disconnect from the world for a weekend.Warm, cosy, stunning views and felt very safe. The hosts do a great job of keeping this cottage in lovely condition.

Absolutely beautiful stay. The gardens were immaculate, the cottage was spotless, and it had everything we could possibly have needed. Lesley had even turned the heat pump and electric blanket on before we arrived, so the whole place was wonderfully warm and cosy when we walked in — such a thoughtful touch.Communication was exceptionally quick, easy and friendly from beginning to end. We also really appreciated how genuinely welcome our dog was. She had a beautiful time exploring and relaxing with us, which made the stay even more special.A gorgeous, peaceful place that has clearly been cared for with a great deal of thought. We would very happily stay again!

Our host was very helpful, the cottage was simply perfect, with comfortable beds, seating, beatiful decor, gardens all around the house, a boutique store next door, right on Highway 1, a well appointed kitchen, easy access and parking off the road, lots of games in a closet, holiday decor and chocolates, so...simply wonderful!

Warm, clean, quiet spot that was pet friendly so the whole family could escape for a couple of days. We enjoyed the homemade chutney.

What an amazing stay, the house is lovely and has everything you need. It’s like a doll house, amazingly maintained and so clean.20 minutes drive from Gore Bay which is a wonderful little beach town, and about an hour from Kaikoura.Communication with Lesley was easy and clear. I would definitely recommend people to stay here.

Very lovely host. Great with communication and insuring we had everything we needed. Very helpful posting back 2 items we'd left behind. House was clean, inviting and homely. Really short drive to Cheviot and not too far to drive to Kaikoura. Would definitely stay there again. Had everything we needed. Our family of 6 stayed there and we all loved it.

The cottage is full of charm, plenty of family games and a beautiful garden surrounding this home. Cattle in the fields, birds chirping in the peach tree.Close by is St Anne lagoon a fun walk, cliffs of gore bay. The home is well equipped and plenty of helpful literature on surrounding areas. Our host was very friendly and easy to understand.Everything in the cottage was well organized.

The cottage is simply delightful. We had chosen it for our 'let's take the dogs' break. The cottage was bright and airy, and spotlessly clean. Perfect sleeping room for the dogs in the laundry. Just 10 minutes from Cheviot, and close to beaches and lovely walks. Lesley our host was lovely to deal with, nothing too much trouble. FABULOUS!

Absolutely gorgeous setting and views. Lovely clean and comfortable cottage with extremely well equipped kitchen. Fantastic communication with host. It is close to train tracks, my son loved seeing the trains whizz by but can be loud at night. Less than 10 mins to Cheviot town centre and there were cows in the paddock beside us which was lovely rural experience. However no wifi or Netflix etc, standard tv and dvds provided. Overall we really enjoyed our stay!

Peaceful Country Retreat

I recently stayed at Spotswood Country Cottage and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The cottage is warm, cosy, and beautifully decorated, with a welcoming feel throughout. It was exceptionally clean and well-equipped, with all the essentials provided for a comfortable stay.Communication with Lesley, the owner, was excellent from start to finish. She was friendly, responsive, and made everything easy — from booking to check-in. It was clear she genuinely cares about her guests’ comfort and experience.A peaceful and relaxing spot — highly recommended.

We had a delightful stay at the Country Cottage in Spotswood over Easter weekend. The cottage was charming and thoughtfully decorated, with lots of little touches that made us feel welcome—like a lovely jar of preserves and fresh fruit and even Easter Eggs waiting for us. The kitchen was well stocked with coffee and tea, and there were plenty of linens and towels.Lesley also went out of her way to make our two greyhounds feel completely at home. She set out a big bucket of water, left a towel for their paws, and even provided tennis balls for them to play with. Those thoughtful gestures really made the stay feel special for all of us.We especially enjoyed sitting on the lanai, looking out at the curious cows next door—such a peaceful, rural setting. There’s a charming boutique right next door, and Lesley was incredibly responsive throughout our stay. Even though the cottage is near a railway line, the occasional train added a bit of character rather than being a disturbance.We highly recommend this spot for a relaxing weekend getaway.

This property is neat, tidy and well presented. Unfortunately it is within 40 metres of the main highway and the trucks kept noisily passing by all night long. Also we paid to have 2 small dogs with us but Leslie the host instructed us to keep these dogs on a leash and 'under control' whenever outside the rented house as her own 3 cats were 'outside cats that don't like dogs' and they liked to roam the property. I had initially asked if she keep her cats on her property. She reiterated that I was to leash the dogs when they were outside. Disappointing.

As responsible Pet Owners and Visiting Guests that bring their Pets on Holiday ,we take every care that both Pets are Safe & cared for . When we were told that the dogs weren't controllable around cats , I suggested a solution of putting the dogs on leads when outside. Don't see a problem with this . The Cottage is near the Highway, and again this is stated in the description, so sometimes traffic noise is unavoidable. Regards Lesley
