Welcome to The Surf Shack, Pensacola Beach’s cutest cottage-style escape! Full of rustic charm and laid-back vibes, this 900-square-foot beach home is a rare gem for small families, couples, or solo travelers who want the privacy of a house without the price tag of a larger property. Located just 30 steps from the sugar-white sands, this cozy coastal retreat offers Gulf views, a fun loft area, and shaded outdoor hangout spaces, plus it’s pet-friendly with approval!

The main level features an open living room and kitchen, a breakfast bar for two, and a queen sleeper sofa. The kitchen is compact but stocked with essentials and includes a two-eye stove, oven, microwave, toaster, and a full-size fridge. The master bedroom offers a king bed, flat-screen TV, and direct access to the full bathroom with a single-person shower. Upstairs, the loft includes a queen bed, a small futon sofa, and a half bath, best suited for kids, teens, or adventurous adults due to the low ceiling and spiral staircase. Outside, you’ll find an upper deck with seating and Gulf views, a shaded lower deck with a grill, dining space, TV, laundry room, and an additional full-size fridge and ice maker. There’s even an outdoor shower to rinse off after beach days!

The beach is a two minute walk from the house. Great restaurants are a short drive down the street. Many pet friendly restaurants nearby. We had a great stay. House was clean and cozy.

The location of this cozy place is exceptional. Quiet street but close to the beach, restaurants, etc. Even though it is not right on the beach the deck has a good view of the gulf. It is smaller but was plenty of room for just the two of us and our small dog. Dog beaches on each side of island and restaurants with pet friendly decks. Try Shaggy’s.I like reviews to be informational so here are some things to note but did not detract from our stay:Since it is a stilted house and it was quite windy when we were there we could feel a bit of swaying and you could feel when anyone was coming up the stairs.My one real complaint was the lack of lighting in the bathroom. The place has wonderful natural light (lots of windows) during the day but since we were there in Feb after 6 o’clock it was quite dark in the bathroom and light fixtures pointed down the side of the mirror. Made it difficult to get ready in the evening.

Surf Shack

We really enjoyed the property, it was very nicely decorated and super cute. Perfect distance to the beach!! It was the perfect size for our family of 5 and we really enjoyed the double decks- it provided so much more space. Laundry was also a plus to have. We prefer a bit more privacy on our vacations and we had just that!

Perfect little place!

This little house is just as described - it is small! It could be difficult for some to get up to the loft area. Our son is 24 yrs old and 6' tall, the spiral stairs were manageable for him, but a little awkward. That being said, he slept in the loft area - found it very comfortable and enjoyed having his own space. The master bedroom was super comfortable. The place was clean and the AC kept it nice and cool! The wi-fi was spotty at best, but it didn't bother us. This house was perfect for us - we planned to be on the beach or out-and-about every day, so the size of the unit wasn't a priority to us. The location is amazing - we saw fireworks and the Blue Angels from the deck. Beach access couldn't be easier and an easy walk to restaurants and the trolley stop. We enjoyed every second and would definitely stay here again! Thank you!!!

Ouch! Omg it's hot in here!

Bedroom was like an inferno. The add didn't say the access to attic was so small that you couldn't put your suitcase up the pole. For children only! The worst thing was the sand stickers. Poor puppy cried every time we tried to take him out. He is a long haired dog and they were very painful. We drove back home the next morning because it didn't work for us.

This place is definitely a Shack!!!

This was definitely nothing like the pictures. We knew this wasn’t going to be a four star stay but, the place was very dirty and old, it truly is a shack. Even the maintenance guy along with other property managers agreed this is not a very good place. It’s the ugliest and shabbiest place on the street. We were both so upset we refused to stay and ended up staying at another place instead. The property manager offered another place but it was not much better. We paid a hefty price this week and we are both shocked that VRBO would not refund our service fee of $218. Very disappointed!!!

Great location

Nice shack. Nothing fancy. Very small kitchen with limited counter space. No curtain on kitchen window so if anyone is staying at the hotel next door they can see you from their balcony. Also this makes the kitchen quite warm with sun hitting it. Great bed and art work. Loved the top deck except the outdoor lights on the side of the top deck did not function. Didnt use the upstairs loft. Stairs were too narrow and a bit dangerous to traverse. I hit my head on the metal stairs one time when trying to access the thermostat. Ouch! Loved that it was a short walk to the beach and that there was an outdoor shower for rinsing off the sand. Although it is pet friendly there is no place for the doggos to do their business due to so many sand burs! I think the property could use some lawn maintenance. The local fauna was overtaken by weeds and sand spurs. We still had fun. Clearest water, white sugary sand. So many jelly fish near shore though. We saw dolphins from the beach. We went to the dog beach and water was pristine and beautiful and only spotted one jelly fish.

Great Location

Perfect place for our family of four. Our boys loved the upstairs portion of the Surf Shack. The beach is right across the street. Take the sidewalk in between the two houses on the other side of the road or the beach access by the hotel right across the street. Walk to the convenience store if you need something. Good restaurants right across the street. The upstairs deck has a great view and the downstairs deck provided some shade. Air conditioning was nice and cool. Wifi was great. Will definitely book again.

Great location and very nice beach "shack"

Perfect for a couple or small family (child needs to be old enough to climb the narrow spiral staircase) - our teenage daughter didn't want to leave the loft. Great communication with management company through text. (We had a minor maintenance issue that was corrected very quickly while we were at the beach.) Great location - can see the beach and hear the waves at night. (Can see both bay and ocean from the little loft). It is just past the last hotel so the crowds thin out on the beach right at the house, but it's still a short walk to restaurants, bars, gift shops and convenience stores. We loved our time there and would return.

Small, but great location

This was the perfect property for my husband and I, our two kids (11 and 13), and our small pup. You’re within walking distance of the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk and across the street from the beautiful beach (note: not one of the two dog beaches) as well as small cafes and shops. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again at this property as well as book with Vrbo/ Gulf Coast Getaways.

Great location, all we needed

We decided on a last minute week away before my husband returned to work plus bring our dog, which of course is always hard at the beach. However, my husband found this one and we immediately booked. The location was GREAT. You hear and see the beach from the upper deck, easy walk to restaurants, liquor store, dog friendly neighborhood, etc. The only issue we had with proximity to bars / restaurants was the live music bar that played music on Friday night until at least 1am, but the music was nice to listen to. :) We were leaving Saturday morning so we took note of it which may not have been the case if we were in town until Sunday. The king bed is very soft, I'm more of a firm bed kind of person, but still slept very well. My mother in law slept upstairs and navigating the staircase was interesting but thankfully she could use the lower level bathroom when she wasn't upstairs. The kitchen had all that we needed. It is a tight space, but felt there was adequate counter space. The freezer of the refrigerator worked really well plus there was an ice maker in the lower level refrigerator, there is a keurig and toaster, plenty of plates, coffee cups, regular cups, utensils, etc. We did run the dishwasher at least 3 times since we did make food frequently in the house. The main living room couch was rather comfortable and still offered a great view of the beach. I genuinely loved ALL the windows, it offered a view of almost every angle around the home. The AC worked really well, but did have to close some vents to divert air to the bedroom as it did get a little stuffy. I also loved all the counterspace in the bathroom so we could lay all our items out and not feel cluttered. There were plenty of bath towels provided. There are also some older beach chairs in the lower level storage and was helpful to have an additional chair. The washer and dryer was a great add! I used it at least two days and it helped us lighten our to dos once we got home since all our clothes were clean. The lower level deck offered a place to get out of the sun during hot portions of the day plus be with the griller while cooking. The only issues we had was the internet didn't work, but we bring our own internet (so no issue), the upstairs sink had a leak from the left pipe, and we noticed on the last day that the kitchen refrigerator had standing water under the drawers. It was a great spot for what we wanted and needed. We'd definitely be back!

Little piece of heaven

Location was amazing! Water views from all vantage points. Perfect size house and decorated tastefully. Second story deck made for amazing mornings and easy star gazing at night.

Our trip

The house itself is a great location. Could use a little cleanup on the outside property. A fan would be nice in the bedroom and sheets that actually stayed on the bed. The upstairs is really only suited for children. Outside was a little spooky as there is overgrown areas that make it extra dark.
