Relax and unwind at Solar Solitude

The Yurt at Solar Solitude sits behind the barn, and the 8.4 acres Solar Solitude occupies is available for exploring. The adjacent George Washington National Forest is ideal for hiking, and the Lost River State Park is just minutes away. Sit in the living room and enjoy the quiet beauty of nature while feeling the warmth from the wood stove or gaze up at the stars through the dome, or out on the expansive deck. WIFI works well for those who prefer to stay connected and/or telework! Enjoy walking the new walking paths and the waterfall and pond! The Solar Cottage on the property is occasionally occupied. Please ensure you do not leave children or pets unattended in the yurt during the summer. Temperatures can get pretty high. Also, it’s a clamping experience so the air conditioner won’t really do much in the heat of summer so I recommend you plan day trips during the heat of the summer day.

I really enjoyed the yurt, seems hard to believe all those 2x6 rafters are just bearing down on a steel cable. It works though! And the modern IKEA decor really classes it up. Super cool place to call home for the weekend!

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay. It had us simultaneously as comfortable as can be and connected with the valley. I’ve stayed in this area several times and this place takes the cake as the best experience. We absolutely did not want to leave. This place is engrained in a small community with houses every couple hundred yards, but privacy was no issue. It has great views of the valley from the fire pit where we spent the majority of our time when we weren’t hiking nearby. If you stay here I hope you have the pleasure of experiencing the rain hitting the yurt while staying dry and cozy inside.

This place is a great getaway from the crowds in town and a wonderful place to disconnect and enjoy nature. We especially enjoyed watching the storms while staying cozy inside and playing games—it made the experience even more relaxing and memorable. Everything you need for cooking and grilling is also provided.A few things to keep in mind: if you have long hair like me, I’d recommend bringing a hair dryer, as I couldn’t find one. There also wasn’t any shampoo or body wash provided. I would bring my own towels next time as well.Our main complaints were the internet connection, which was not very stable, and an unpleasant smell coming from the toilet/septic system. If someone is sleeping upstairs while another person is using the bathroom, the smell can be quite awful after flushing and opening the bathroom door.Other than that, the host was very responsive and easy to communicate with.

The yurt was perfect for a quiet weekend getaway for two. Communication with the host, Russ, was outstanding; very responsive and very detailed.

Amazing Yurt in WVA

Had a great stay- very thorough check-in and instructions, yurt was super cool. To be out in the country and still have wi-fi and a shower was right up my alley. Fridge, appliances, and peace and quiet. Owner was very responsive and friendly as well. Loved it!

Relaxing and Valuable

Those 2 words sum up our stay. We couldnt have asked for a better Autumn get away to recharge, slightly :) unplug, enjoy the beautiful views and listen to the sweet sounds of cows mooing! Great host and great space! Cant wait to book it again!

Awesome experience…

Book it. You won’t regret it! This was a solo trip for me to travel around the area mountain biking. The place itself has everything you need and it really unique. Awesome property to relax on and the surrounding areas are beautiful to wake up to.

Great value. Charming setup.

We loved staying here. It was a fun and different property in a beautiful location. My only complaint is that some dishes were not clean. Other than that, everything was amazing, and I would recommend this place to anyone considering it.

Easy stress free glamping

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The yurt was well set up for every need we might have had. The bed was one of the most comfortable we ever slept in. We had a couple of small hiccups because of the cold weather but our host addressed them immediately and resolved them.

Restful weekend

My spouse and I spent the weekend at the Yurt . Everything was perfect . We had a lot of rain but it didn’t stop us . We hiked the state park , we had coffee outside in the morning and we took long walks on the property. We enjoyed the wildlife and the area . We will be back again .

Yurt sweet yurt!

Enjoyed our stay! Overall a fantastic property. Really fun and unique place and as advertised, however firepit area could use a trim. Bed was comfortable, and pullout was comfy as well. Able to work remotely and had no trouble, We enjoyed grilling on the deck and the solostove for smores in evenings!

Takes “Glamping” to a Whole New Level

Solar solitude is more than just a yurt, it has beautiful floors, a well appointed kitchen, beautiful bathroom, and a skylight for stargazing. Set in a peaceful, quiet neighborhood you can get back to nature in style. Russell is an attentive host and responds to any inquiry quickly.

Very nice and interesting time!

My husband and I had a very nice time at this location. We got our quiet in, it's in a very nice location, and what an experience in a yurt! The host was incredibly responsive. I would only take this experience in if I had no mobility issues, as the main bed is up some steep steps. We appreciated all of the heating and cooling needs the host has put in the yurt, as some we have seen and experienced have little of these accommodations. A great place to stay in and around the Lost City area of West Virginia!

A+ for privacy

Glad we had at least one clear night to see the stars. An extremely unique experience in a very private location. Being in a circular living space felt so big! The place is appointed well, with just the right amount of items to make the stay comfortable. But hard to remember we were really not indoors and it is best to venture out in the hottest part of the day.

Awesome Experience

My husband and I totally loved our stay in the Yurt. Russell was an amazing host and got back to me within minutes if I had any questions. It had all the amenities of home but the feeling of being close to nature. The yurt sits on a lot of land and our dogs loved exploring. The only thing I will say is the stairs up to the bed are quite tricky and my husband's older knees struggled a bit. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants the experience of "glamping".

Absolutely wonderful!

The yurt is incredible. The structure itself is very cool, but it's set amongst several pastures to walk through with your dog in the morning listening to birdsong and cows and during the magic hour in the evening. It has everything you could need; this is luxury glamping! Russ is so nice and responsive and helpful. Lost River State Park and George Washington National Forest are a few turns away. There's nothing nicer than sitting on the deck with a drink and watching the birds and the baby cows across the way in the afternoons. The pup and I had the most wonderful time and we will absolutely be back!

The Simpsons

Every was nice a clean when we arrived. The only thing i can give any kind of criticism to is the air conditioning. It way under powered. If we were to have rented in the dead of summer, I would have been upset do the fact of it ran all the time and cooled it off by maybe 10 degrees. There were time where it was cooler outside than inside.
