Endless Summer and Cool Winter on Big Shag Lake in Gwinn, Michigan with Sauna

Our quiet 4 bedroom, three bath home has 2022 square feet of living space with100 feet of water frontage on Big Shag Lake. The walk in beach has no drop off and is great for kids and adults alike. You'll love our western sunsets directly across the lake while relaxing under the gazebo or on the huge deck. A roll in dock is available for launching your own boat and we provide all the toys and accessories expected with lake living. A Weber charcoal grill, a propane gas grill and smoker are available for your outdoor cooking needs. We even have a 6 person cedar barrel sauna for use!

Only 5 miles from downtown Gwinn, 25 miles from Marquette, 40 miles from Munising and most importantly only 1 mile to the fabulous UpNorth Lodge!

Great for vacationers wanting to hit central Upper Michigan’s ATV, snowmobile, and ski trails or venture out on day trips to beaches and waterfalls! Fish for bluegill, perch, bass and northern pike just feet from the back door and deck.

Please refrain from the use of vulgarity as sound carries on the lake. Be respectful of our neighbors, please. Any issues with them, contact us.

We loved the beautiful setting of Carrie and Mo's beautiful cozy home. They have equipped thier home with everything one would need along with a beautiful sauna, yard games, a paddle boat, canoe and kayaks! We hope to stay again when we visit the area.

Check in was easy, cottage was very clean, plenty of space, lovely deck and the sauna was fantastic. In addition, the host was very responsive to questions.

Perfect UP getaway

This home was perfect for our family vacation, with plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 kids. Location was great, easy to take day trips to Marquette and Pictured Rocks. Or just hanging out on the lake and taking in beautiful sunsets. Highly recommend!

Quiet getaway

We enjoyed our time here. Kitchen was well stocked, lots of comfortable spaces to relax. Enjoyed using the kayaks on the beautiful lake 😊

Perfect place for family vacation!

Very easy to rent. Contact with owner was easy and had an answer to questions asked. We used this as "home base", did day trips as well as visiting friends in the area.

Perfect for family time

We had a fantastic time with our family. The property was a gem and stocked with everything we could imagine. We made good use of the games and water activities. It was easy to find, with plenty of parking for our 3 vehicles. The hosts were perfectly communicative and even remembered my mom’s birthday! Would absolutely stay again

Great Fall Trip

Great location on the lake, clean property that almost seems larger than the pictures show which was a nice surprise. Nice amenities in the house and for the lake. Carrie is easy to communicate with.

This was our second time renting this lovely lake house for our annual summer trip and it just gets better each time.If your idea is easy check in, flawless communication, relaxation, perfect accommodations and the water toys at your disposal then this gem is for you.

We had a great time. The house was equipped with just about everything you could think of for young kids and adults to get out on the water, play on the beach, cook indoors and/or outdoors, etc. Carrie was very responsive and genuinely cared about us enjoying our stay. The host and place exceeded our expectations.

Great Location, fun with friends

This house was the perfect location for a friend's wedding at the Up North Lodge. It had everything we needed and comfortably fit 4 couples. Only one room was truly private, but it wasn't an issue with our close friends. The beds in the 2 loft rooms were not very comfortable, and quite bright in the morning. Besides that, great house and we would 100% stay again!

Family lake time!

We live on a lake in WI. It was great to enjoy a different lake and different kayaks. We had 6 adults and 2 middle schoolers. All had fun. Good local pizza and lots of room at the house including a covered patio area. We had one day trip to Pictured Rocks which was easy to get to. Host had yard games, pool noodles, etc... all ready to go for us. Great communication with the host before, during and after our stay.

What a Great Week!

We had amazing weather for our week at Big Shag Lake! Sunny and 80’s every day- you couldn’t ask for better! The house has plenty of space to spread out and have your own spot if you want to but we usually hung out together outside or in the room overlooking the lake. We took short daytrips to Marquette ((Sugarloaf was awesome), Munising, Pictured Rocks, waterfalls, etc. But, mostly, we just enjoyed the lake. The kayaks, canoe, paddle board, and the relaxing feel was just what we all needed. The house was well stocked with everything we needed to have a great week!

What's not to do?

The easier question to ask yourself regarding this property is "what is there NOT to do?" because that list will be much shorter. It's located near the airport and many major roads leading to many attractions in the area. It is on a lake, with ample access to personal water craft. It is cozy for when the weather is bad. It is a great base when the weather is great.

Peaceful, beautiful, fun place to gather and relax

We were excited about this place from just seeing the pictures. It totally exceeded our expectations once we got there and throughout our stay for the week! The house had so many places to gather and relax. The back covered deck was where we gathered often to eat, talk, play games, and just view the lake - especially during the AMAZING sunsets. The house was fully stocked with all household items - kitchen, bath, bedrooms. We loved going out on the kayaks, paddle boat, paddle board. The little beach made it easy to play in the water. There were ducks that came to visit each evening. It was such a wonderful place and made it easy to actually rest and relax during our downtimes of our UP vacation. The house was very easy to get to. It was near the town of Gwinn, so if we needed grocery items, it was easy to run and get. I cannot get over how lucky we were to find this little gem of a place to stay. I’m so thankful the owners rent it out for others to enjoy!

Everything was wonderful! We have stayed at 4 different VRBOs for dirt biking trips to Michigan UP and this is the best. The location is great for access to Gwinn, Marquette, and trails in the area.The house was clean and has a very nice floorplan with a large kitchen and dining area, a large living room with big TV, and big deck on the lake side, part of which is covered. There are several tables and lots of chairs on the deck and the views of the lake are gorgeous. Two in our group used one of the canoes and had a great time paddling around the area.There is plenty of parking for our vehicles and trailers and although there are other homes nearby, the space feels very private. It was very quiet all the time, day and night.The hosts were friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. Thank you very much.I don't think you could go wrong with a stay at this beautiful place on the lake!

We loved the Big Shag Lake house. The kitchen was fully stocked with every appliance and pots and pans anyone could need. The room overlooking the lake was our favorite, very comfortable and great place to hang with a group.

We loved the home. Check in couldn’t be easier. I was most impressed with how responsive the host was. I texted with questions ranging from where I may find something to how do I get the TV station I want. I never had to wait for a response. the kitchen was well stocked. We prepared most of our meals at the house.
